Let's see if the Mavs can recover like the Lakers did.

It feels wrong to say any one particular Celtic was the MVP of this game because this game was really won by the defense, credit for which could go to a few different guys. But if I had to make a call on it Porzingis and Brown would share honors. Before KP entered the game it was a game and in the maybe 8 minutes(?) he played when he first...

IMO the biggest difference today was Brown on Doncic. Along with Celts sticking to their man on D.
Against the Timberwolves, Doncic could back down Conley and McDaniels (who despite 6'9" has a high center of gravity and Doncic could move him). Against ANT, Doncic would do a step back 3.
He couldn't back down Brown as easily and Brown...

Luka with one assist. That's wild.
Boston did an absurd job defensively. I expect the Mavs and particularly Kyrie to make more open shots next time, which might change the C's tune a bit and make them play tighter. But their game plan was sound.
Tatum will play better next time too. Game 2 will be fun.

I thought the Celtics had an easy path and once they face a real opponent, they'd be exposed.

Am I crazy to think that's been the trend recently, without looking it up, besides the winner, I couldn't even tell you what happened in Game 1 last year, or 2021, I'm pretty sure Game 1 in the bubble wasn't good either.

Was Celtics best last finals too.
He's the Kawhi of Celtics.
I underestimated Celtics because I didn't understand that Brown was a Kawhi type player. Thought he was PG, but no, he is Kawhi.

Chill, it was a massacre. The least interesting game 1 of a Finals I recall watching.

No, Doncic had the obligation to break the D, attract more defenders, and create looks for his teammates. Like he's been doing all playoffs. Did the Celtics make it harder for him to do it? Sure. As the leader of his team, he needed to do what Brown and Tatum did which was force other defenders to guard him and kick. Didn't do it today.

Haven’t watched a lot of Dallas… who’s #1 off the bench for the Mavs? It’s obviously garbage time but he looks like a bucket

True. Gafford and Luckey were getting fed around the rim routinely. And no easy step back 3's for Doncic so far this series since Brown has the length.

Porzingis just played 21 minutes but was arguably the best player on the floor for Boston. :oldlol:

Didn't you just say it was hero ball a second ago? Make up your mind.
The Celtics played excellent defense. Just about anyone that gets switched onto Doncic can do a good enough job guarding him that they don't really need to double.

Wolves had excellent rim protectors. Best in the league. They were just caught out of position a lot of times, which is Gobert’s big issue. I don’t think even his biggest haters will say he isn’t a huge deterrent if allowed to just camp by the basket.

If you want to see why the Celtics won, go back and watch a Mav possession and watch off the ball at the Celtics preventing Luka at the point from passing to anyone. They are stuck to their man like glue; staying between Doncic and his teammate. They don't let their man get open for a pass. Off the ball physicality and commitment. No wonder...
