The Hot Seat - ISH Edition


What is the "Hot Seat"?

The Hot Seat is a all-on-one uncensored interview. If you are interested in being on The Hot Seat then sign up in this thread. Then I randomly pick names from that list, usually 4 or 5 and the forum votes for who they would like to see in The Hot Seat.

Whoever reaches 5 votes first will be in the Hot Seat. Once in the Hot Seat, ISH members can ask you anything that they want answered & you (the person in the Hot Seat) will try to answer your questions to the best of their ability. All questions MUST be in relation to the poster.

After 24 hours or after the person in the Hot Seat has had enough, I will pick 4 or 5 more names and we will go through the same process. You only have to sign up once, as I will be using the same list over and over again.

The best question will be rewarded with rep as well (My rep isn't worth much.. but hopefully others will rep you to). After you have been in the Hot Seat your name will be in bold on the list.

This is such a great story if I could say it to you guys in person, but here goes...


I was working at Spencer Gifts two years ago at my local mall, and I was actually just talking a crap in our back bathroom, when I picked up the pen and notebook that was laying near me. I just started doodling, and ended up drawing an awesome-ass cat. And I thought to myself, "I need a name for this cat." I started like writing in cursive a few names I was thinking of, and *BOOM* it just came to me. It had such a ring to it.... Catz Hernandez... mmhmm

People are creatures of habit, and after years of begging for money or collecting alluminum cans they feel comfortable doing that. They don't want to change. Many of them are given chances to change, and time and again, they go back to their same ways, on the streets, begging for money, buying liquor and drugs, etc.

this is a good question. in brief, i would respond that my relationship with God has become so much part of who i am that i cannot deny it-- it would be like denying myself.

as a human, i do not live out these beliefs perfectly, but i see them more as goals to strive toward. most christians (and thosee who try to define christianity) can be much too legalistic in how one's faith is practiced and it can be seen as "do this and dont do that". there is a place for precepts but it isnt the heart of the christian faith.

a feel of peace, security and "at-rightness" with the world i believe are benefits to a vibrant, lived faith

muslim, christian, atheist-- we are primarily humans and part of that human experience is our limitations as finite beings and making mistakes. we do not know it all and at times, we harm one another (knowingly and unknowingly)

i somewhat fear death but mostly i dont. (i actually just got back from a funeral!) i do believe in eternity (where the past present and future somehow collapse into the same reality-- but please dont ask me to try to explain it) and i believe that life just changes, and doesnt really end.

i dont think that i myself overcome these kinds of things-- but only through the grace of God are these things "overcome". i thnk we dont really overcome many things in life, but learn to accept them and live with them. i like to look at death in this light

ironically, i believe that one can better him/herself by not focusing on oneself, but others. the paradox is: the more we are selfless, the more we find ourselves

the more selfish one is, the more lonely and lost one can be

my experience is that many of the young people these days are realizing this in ways that have eluded gen x. i am hopeful for a new ethos that they will bring to society

imo, catholics can appreciate metaphor/symbol as well as other christians.

the sacramental understanding of eucharist isnt quite literal-- lest we be accused of some sort of spiritual cannibalism. the primal understanding of early christian with the words of jesus at the last supper is very important; and their desire to celebrate that "remembrance" with jesus' words "this is my body; this is my blood" echoes the sacrifice of the blood of the lamb of the jewish feast of passover

and for this reason, i believe that "real presence" and comm-union resonates with 21 c. theology better than the medieval theology

remembrance in this sense is about bringing about the past reality into the present in sacramental form. how does Christ become really present to the worshipping community? through thanksgiving (which is what eaucharist means in greek)

i have only read parts of them-- they are kind of interesting but i dont have too much more to specifically say. it would have been interesting if they were accepted/known by the early christians in that we would have a totally different undestanding of faith than we do today

as much as i love seattle, i did enjoy living in los angeles; i have also lived in texas and arizona too. you can move from where you live; one cannot deny who one is

that is the paradox of the "isness"-- the transformation is effected by the power of jesus words and brought into the present because of the "remembrance" and the continued power of the words because of the priest acting in persona christi (in the person of christ) and the faith of the worshipping community.

it is a collapsing of past, present and future into the love/presence of Christ. in great part, that is the sacramental power of the eucharist
