He hasn't scored for England in the past 6-7 games or something like that.
no...he hasn't.
playing well in a good league like EPL does not equate to great international play.

Even when he isn't scoring, he does a lot for the team, very dynamic player. He's suffering from capello's schemes, I think.

There's more to soccer than international games you know..
And there's more to soccer than club games as well. A great player should have outstanding performances for both.

I agree the US can be the best at any sport they "choose" to.
Uh, they can't even retain their status as #1 in basketball this decade. They've been embarrassed by international teams over and over again, now that the talent pool over there is increasing. As far as I'm concerned, US gold medal in '08 Olympics has a * because Argentina (the #1 ranked team in the world) wasn't even healthy. Even then, they had to scratch their way in the fourth quarter to win against Spain.

Yeah but if we're going to discuss a soccer player's abilities I'd put more emphasis on the 60-70 games he plays through the year for his club than 6 games of international play.

Michael Bradley is definately a star player who should be starting on a bigger club, his composure on the ball, crisp distribution and decision making, ball winning skills and ability to make timely attacking runs into the box and finish with composure are a great package to have in a CM.
Alot of top teams need holding midfielders and Bradley is looking like one of the best in the world cup currently

Are you really going to argue that the best basketball players don't come from the US? Really? If players cared about international play even a fraction of what they care about the regular season, international games would be blowouts. Lebron, Kobe, Carmelo, D Wade, Durant, I mean, really?

its sounds to me that your just mad cause the USA has a legit chance to make it far. and dont say anything about our fans not watching soccer besides the world cup, cause all they play here is the stupid MLS where all the players who arent good enough to play in the eruo league play.
your also mad because it looks like the USA is actually getting good at a sport that no one really cares about in the states. north america is the only continant in the world where soccer isnt the biggest sport, and yet we are still just as good as most of the other countries.
I agree the US can be the best at any sport they "choose" to. But like you say it's a what if scenario and pretty useless.
I used to like the US watching this world cup, especially donovan, a true leader and outstanding soccer player. but when I read some shit from the crazy sportsfans in the US I've to come to the conclusion that witch such bastard fans I can't like this team anymore. Your national team is nowhere near the elite in international soccer, please accept it. and as long as your guys playing basketball, football, baseball and hockey the majority of the time, you ain't getting nothing in international soccer. I believe you got the greatest talent in "your" sports, but soccer is owned by europe and south america.
but I also got to say you got a legit shot at getting to the semifinals now, in that kind of bracket that you are. you'll have a hard time against ghana like we did but I believe you can win against them and maybe also against urugay, but don't be silly, after the quaterfinals, you'll all get your ass kicked from an elite soccer nation.

I feel the exact same way, was actually rooting for the US since I've lived there once. But all of the sudden seeing soccer fans on this board talk like they do about the level of their team and Landon Donovan especially is just painful.

Saying that USA basketball isn't #1 in this decade is crazy and that the best athletes don't come from the US is equally crazy. Even after a down year or two, USA basketball probably still has a better record than any international team by a decent margin.

I thouhgt this theard was about soccer, not basketball. and soccer-wise you all got to see that your team is not on top of the world. not even close. I can name you 8-12 teams that will come or are in the final round and will kick your ass if you play against them for sure! not to mention the teams that are pretty equal to yours and will also have a shot at winning a game.
so here are the teams that will beat you for sure:
england, argentina, germany, netherlands, italy, brasil, portugal, spain. I also consider that urugay, paraguay and chile would send you home too.

I'm curious, from an outside point of view how do you see the Danish team this year? I know it's not 1992:D but we seem to have a shot at getting better in the next 4-10 years. Have you heard about Christian Eriksen? huge talent and I'm really looking forward to see him hopefully become one of the best players in the world!

I can't foresee the future and for now I got to tell you that denmark will have a hard time coming out of their group and winning an potential last 16 against paraguay or italy. but i also think you got a legit shot against washed up italy and also paraguay. but this team isn't ready for more right now, typical middle-class team that hast chances as a underdog but will ultimately fail to win the cup or come into the finals.
as for the future, I heard of eriksen. only good things, but you can never say how he will develope, especially if he picks a big club too early and won't see playing time, which is extremly valuabel for a young player. But the potential is acutally there, to become a elite europe team, maybe you can make some noise in 2 yours in the europe competition and we will meet there in the finals, who knows ;)

My last point on the subject before I bump this after Saturday. USA were top on goals scored, but not goal difference. Therefore USA did better over the 3 games at scoring, but England were better at defending (despite us having the worst goalkeeping class we've ever had).

As for Eriksen, it seems he's making the right choices as for his development, he's very down to earth. He's about to extend his contract with Ajax which is without a doubt the best thing he can do as he's only 18. I hope he does well, these talents don't come along too often for us. I like him, Agger, Kjaer and Bendtner as the building blocks of the new generation, but where we'll find the rest of the talent is what is worrying.

Yeah. I'm not one of them, though. Blind patriotism is popular in England. I also think we could utilise Rooney much better and should have taken a proper left winger (Adam Johnson) but what can you do.

I like him more than Wright-Phillips, but with Lennon already on the team theres not much point in taking either of them. I suppose Walcott could have given us more flexibility with being able to play up front. My problem was, Capello took off Lennon and put Wright-Phillips on, what a waste of a substitution.

Yeah, you're right, thats the correct decision. but at this point of his career there are so many factors in play at how good he will become...you can't foresee anything with him. with the population you got, your soccer team is doing a good job, but you'll need very much luck to get the amount of talent to play with the really big boys.
so now I also would like to hear your opinino about germany. was a bit worried yesterday gametime, but I'm very councios that we will run over england :D

Yeah given our pool of players we overachieve every year.
I was a bit worried as well, had money on them in a double bet. Fortunately they held on. They looked better and better as the game wore on, Ghana did better than I thought they would though.
I like how the German team plays, good crisp ball movement and they look like they play for each other as a true team.
That's usually how it is with the German teams though as you're always good from top to bottom. It should be a good game vs England, I'm looking forward to watching it :)

And? The World Cup comes around every 4 years, we've only been a strong soccer nation for a short period of time here, but we're starting to become a powerhouse in international soccer, if you think the US won't be a dominant force in soccer in the future that's funny. Highest population nation in the World Cup atm btw, unless India and China decide to not suck at soccer. Who cares if we haven't done shit when nobody gave a **** about soccer.

We compete for the most medals in every Olympics and have great athletes in a large number of sports. I don't think any country has elite athletes across the board like the US.

wouldn't say it so drastic, but in the essence you're right. the americans believe they are the greatest in everything and nobody can beat them in anything. you were on the brink of elimination in the group and some guys here talking bout the US gonna rule the sport in a few years. The only thing i like about the USA football team is they are a bunch of hard working athletes who give it everything they got. Thats one thing i cant take away from americans they fight till the end, If they didnt have a salary cap on their MLS they would do well in attracting big names, but thats not the case.
They will be good down the line and win a world cup maybe in the next 20 years.
But the germans...man i want Ozil at Arsenal...lol
