OK, this could be really nice.

The rules will be real simple, and much like many other drafts, the winner will be decided by comments from the peanut gallery as well as those participating.

1-you must pick the model and series of a shoe. For example, Air Jordan 1-25 could possibly be the first 25 pics. You cannot differentiate by colors, no matter how iconic the shoe (for example, you can't take red Air Jordan 1s in round one and then blue Air Jordan 1s in round two). Neither can you differentiate between low and high cut shoes (once someone, for example, takes Air Force 1s, you cannot later choose Hi-Top Air Force 1s).

2-you must choose shoes from at least FIVE different companies (All Air Jordans fall under the Nike umbrella, and G-Units under the Reebok umbrella, no using RBK and Jumpman as independent labels. This rule goes for all spin-off sneaker labels). companies who merged, yet are still sold as separate labels are exempt from this rule.

3-if you are not sure of the model, post a pic and a more knowledgeable poster will later help you out.

4-The draft will be 8 rounds, serpentine (someone please create one of those blue draft thingies, I don't know how). YOU MUST POST PICS OF YOUR PICK!!!!!!!!

5- your roster will look like this:

1-Basketball
2-Lifestyle
3-Running
4-Cleat or spike (baseball, soccer, football, track and field etc...)
5-Open
6-Open
7-Open
8-Open

*'Open' slots are just as valuable as roster spots 1-4. Roster spots 1-4 are simply to guarantee a variety of footwear. You can fill the 'Open' slots in the first four rounds if you like and leave the cleats till the end.

I'll check back in 12 hours to see who is in and put forth a draft order.

Tally ho!

EDIT: As a bonus round nine, we could all draft the wackest kicks possible, whoever comes up with the nastiest shit gets credit.

I'll cut and paste this and put it in the sneaker forum. Some good shoe heads there.

You don't have much structure in terms of evaluation, and shoes, like fashion and other forms of art, is more subjective than some of the other topics we've had.

yep, all true, but if you know sneakers than you know what is hot and what isn't.

this draft is also a chance for the sneakerhead or collector to get some fresh ideas and maybe some insight on some kicks they may not have thought of before.

for example:

"Wow, Stro took XXXXX in round three, judging by the picture they look really nice, might have to cop me a pair."

that is the kind of shit I am looking at taking away from this.

and RE your earlier question, opening the draft up to loafers and boots etc... might be a bit much. If someone drafts a pair of Solomon hiking boots or something of that ilk for one of their open slots it's cool, but we want to keep it in the athletic realm.

Remember the 9th and final round is a 'wackest kicks' round so bring out the junk then.

YOU MUST POST A PIC OR YOUR SELECTION IS VOID.

You have 12 hours to pick.

BK33...you are on the clock.

Inspired Lebowski, you are on the clock at 3:20pm EST regardless of wether BK33 has picked or not.

Jizzo, you are on the clock at 3:20am EST (24 hours from now)

AIR JORDAN 3

At the apex of both function and style, the AJ3 is in my most humble of opinion the best sneaker ever created.

My selection Round 1 pick #8 goes to:

*drumroll*

The Reebok Pump

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q225/kennerguy66/Reebok_pump_original.jpg

Originally dropped in 1989, worn by Dominique Wilkins and Dee Brown, an early pair of Shaq's shoes used the pump too. They provided custom fit, comfort, and plenty of padding. They were on the expensive side, and became a sort of status symbol. They are still in production 21 years later, and have also been used in hockey skates. Nike and LA Gear tried to get in on the pump popularity as well, so that shows they were big time.

Yeah I've wanted to grab a pair for a while, but haven't. An assistant bball coach I had in high school had a crazy pair of hi top Asics bball shoes from like the early 80s. He wore them every day, and I've never been able to find them online.

When I go to Asia, big department stores carry those Mexico 66s in every color imaginable, I've always wanted to score some, but I wear 13s and they usually only go to 11 or 12:mad:

I had the volleyball version of those back when I was young, pretty much the same but a different material.

They were dope as shit.

That's an interesting catch-22. It's tough to find 13s in stores, but online if you're looking for older/out of production shoes you're going to find size 12+ and below 9. I wear a 10.5/11, so it takes a lot of work to find rarer shoes. It also doesn't help that you were in Asia, smaller people = smaller shoes.

Hateraid's thoughts on round 1

1- bk33- Air Force 1
The most versatile of the Nike Brand. Simple yet stylish. This is a very big platform for multiple colorways. The exclusives for colors are endless and possess alot of value. I own a pair of Superbowls which are made of real footbal Pigskin as well as the Ms. Invisibles which are see through, both with substantial value. Worthy top 5 pick

2- Inspired Lebowski- Air Jordan 1
The Launch of basketball's most popular line. The start of the phemomenon and first signiture shoe by Nike. Not one of Nike's greatest in terms of history but very well respected shoe.

3- JtotheIzzo- Air Jordan III
This by far was the shoe that changed the basketball shoe game forever. My favorite shoe of all-time and the most historic shoe and pivotal point of Nike. If it weren't for this shoe, nike wouldn't be the monster it is today. First off, after two signiture shoes for MJ, Michael had decided to leave Nike. He practically was already inked to another label. But as a last ditch effort to bring him back Knight introduced MJ to the greatest basketball shoe designer in history. Tinker Hatfield. The outcome: The official Jordan logo. MJ's sillouette was born. The launch of the aggressive marketing campaign and birth of Mars Blackmon. The Elephant/cement print. The GOAT Jordan Shoe

4- Stroshow- Air Jordan XI
The most sought after shoe in the whole Jordan collection. Practically every colorway has value. Unique colorways such as the cool greys and SpaceJams are among the best selling shoes of all-time (I own both colorways)

5- Dasher- Adidas Rod Laver
Classic design for Tennis first real superstar in the open era. Probably history's most popular tennis shoe.

6- DatDude- Nike Air Penny
This has a special spot in my heart as it was the first shoe that I bought my wifey when we first dated. L'il penny. 1cent logo.

7- hateraid- Converse Chuck Taylor All-stars
I don't think anyone would argue that this is the most universally popular shoe in shoe history, any genre. It's worn by all. What started out as a basketball shoe has become the most popular shoe in the world. Who would have thought that a waffle iron (the sole) would change the world. No.1 shoe of all-time

8- Professor Murder- Reebok Pump
Reeboks challenge to the Nike Monster. And at the time was probably the more popular shoe. Pump it Up slogan was everywhere and Dee Brown blew the shyt up at the Dunk Contest. If they only had the Spokesperson it could have been the shoe to forever compete with Nike. Big dropoff after that

9- Tian- Air Jordan V
This was when J's rally took off and basketball shoes were now being worn as casual. Reflective tongue, innovative. Ice soles, first of it's kind. The shoe was actually designed after a WWII Fighter plane. You know the one with the sharks teeth? Hence the sharks teeth design on the sole

Steal- Hateraid- Chuck taylors

Could have gone later- Air Penny's

running shoes is a great category, tons of choices, you'll find something.

cleats are interesting, I see them like tight ends in a fantasy football draft, you don't want to grab one too early and once one is taken there will be a run on them.

Ken Griffey Jr. If i can't pick the whole line-up, I choose the very first one he had.

I wanted to go AM95's last pick but given the criteria figured I'd be better suited with the Sambas. AM95s are a good pick though. They've fallen out of favor a bit lately but everyone knows about the what, hundreds of colorways?

I just hope no one takes my cleats/spikes first, I think they'll last awhile. But their impact is underrated.

Michael Johnson's 96 Atlanta Olympics gold spikes

http://preracejitters.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/johnsongoldenspikes.jpg
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/mihirbose/mj446.jpg

Johnson won the 200m and 400m at the 96 games in them (1st man ever to do so in a single Games), the 200m time was a world record (since eclipsed by Usain Bolt), the 400 was an Olympic record. The 96 games are best remembered for the backpack bombing, but Johnson's spikes (and his dominance) may've sparked a new generation of US sprinters.

I can't believe these shoes are still around. Outside of Air Jordans these are perhaps the most hyped, most important and most influential basketball shoes ever made. They blew up like no other shoe and had a stranglehold on the NBA and all of basketball. In fact, if their dominance wasn't so thorough, Nike might not have invested so much into Air Jordan and the Nike icon would have never become what it has.

A shoe that changed the sponsorship, colorway and design game forever. On the Mt. Rushmore of iconic footwear...

for my next pick I will choose the shoe

that lets Magic do what he was born to do...
Maybe so, but that's not all,
they let Isiah play like he's ten feet tall...
For the kind of moves that never fail,
this shoe is the choice of Kevin McHale...
The same is true for Mark Agguire,
when I wear this shoe I'm on fire...
What can this shoe do for King?,
Well I can do just about anything...
You already know what they did for me,
(what?) I walked away with the MVP.

Hateraid's breakdown round 2

1- Tian- Adidas Superstars
Iconic shoe. Just a notch under the All-stars for one of the most diverse shoes in existance. The Shell toe is easily one of the top 3 sneakers of all-time. There was once a time that the reps for Adi Dassler went to a Run DMC concert and was going to break the news that they were going to discontinue the Shelltoe. Rev brought them on stage and said everybody take off your shoe and hold them in the air. More Superstars than there would be lighters at a GnR concert

2- ProfessorMurder- Onitsuka Tiger
What a sexy shoe. Probably the only shoe that could pull off neon colorways. Very rich history as probably the most diverse athlete's shoe. Japan's greatest contribution to the world with Honda, Ninjas, and Sushi

3- Hateraid- Air Max 1
Nike's greatest innovation ever, and probably shoe history's biggest leap forward. The air pocket changed the way shoes were built. Every shoe in existance that has performance value owes everything to this shoe as basketball owes dunking to Dr.J.

4- DatDude- Nike Cortez
This was the bees knees of the running world in the 70"s and today's answer for the B-Boying Shell's. Classic design. I owned a pair of Carolina blue ones that I dearly miss.

5- Dasher- Nike Air Uptempo
AIR? That was crazy cool when they came out. Pippen tried to dub them as his kicks. Not only was it a icon in the athlete's world, it was a world wide designing phenomenon. There was this show in England, a classic Brit sitcom called Absolutely Fabulous. Thier answer to Desinging Women. This shoe was featured in a multiple of episodes and really took flight. Uptempo is nike's most underrated platform

6- Stroshow- Nike Dunks
There are probably more variances of dunks than any other shoe combined in the world. Even deeper variances of colorways than big brother AF1. I had the Hulks that were made of ripped denim. That's how creative this shoe is

7- Jizzo- Puma Clydes
Can there be any other shoe that you can cassify as PIMP? Puma, cool, suede? GTFO of here. So much style that if you wore this with a fur coat a pimp would say, "Damn those are some killa kicks". The most appropraite spokesperson in Walt "Clyde" Frazier

8- Inspired Lebowski- Adidas Sambas
Now this is a kick that is truly more universal than it's more popular brother the Superstars.Universal in the sense that it's the face of the biggest sport in the world. Soccer. Lebowski owns the cleats category if he choses to put it in this category

9- BK33- Nike Air Max 95
Sexy design and Probably the most sought after Air Max produced. the all white's are gorgeous. Very sleek and innovative.

Round 2 Steal- Puma Clyde(Although the superstars definately went late)

Could have gone later- Air Max 95

Again, no losers here. I think round 2 would pose a definate serious threat to the round 1 selections.

Hateraid Round 3 breakdown

1- BK33- Air Griffey
The only other player than Jordan to get a silouette out of Nike. Hard to argue against Griffey being the best player in the game at that time, definately the most marketable. Very rare a baseball player gets a signiture shoe

2- Inspired Lebowski- Nike Micheal Johnson edition spikes
What a time for track and field. Micheal Johnson was defiantely the only person on that track who could have pulled those off. He knew he was getting Gold. A historic shoe for sure.

3- Jizzo- Converse Weapons
This was the beginning of what spouted out the signature shoe phenomenon and in my opinion, the greatest signature shoe ever produced. It was a tribute to the greatest rivalry in NBA history. Magic vs. Bird. Choose your weapon.

4- Stroshow- Reebok Question
I was talking earlier about how the Penny's stayed competative to the other signature lines, but one ruled that era. It was the Questions. Everybody had to have these. This shoe was actually a tribute to the Jordan XI's which was AI's favorite shoe at the time. Reebok threw in the hexalite insole and was the first to do the toe cover on a baskeball shoe. Then began the marketing campaign. This shoe was more than just a shoe, it was also a cultural statement as well. A shoe that appealed to even the ghetto burbs in America as well. I have two pairs and by far the best basketball shoe I've ever played in.

5- Dasher- Adidas Touch
Adidas definately rule the Futball realm. I don't know much about these but you can't go wrong choosing an Adidas soccer shoe.

6- DatDude- New Balance m574
New Balance owns the running world. These shoes are made with quality and precision. If you walked and enjoyed it, this would be your brand. This particual style is versatile. The also branch into alot of colorways and even themes. They have the Sesame Street Series and a couple of comic charatcer shoes.

7- hateraid- Nike Shox BB4
Nike's second biggest innovation. What a great marketing campaign behind VC and the greatest dunk ever. Shox became more household under it's crosstraining counterpart, but can't deny how much impact Shox have on the shoe game.

8- ProfessorMurder- Puma Plele
Adidas may rule the soccer realm but Puma signed the biggest icon in thier sport. Even names like Maradona followed in his footsteps, literally.

9- Tian- Nike Kobe V
This is a very good shoe. I can probably say it's the lightest basketball show ever made. So many themed colorways: The Jokers, Batmans, Bruce Lees, Hornets, Great pick

Steal- Reebok Question

Could have gone later- ? I would say the Touch but my knowledge on the shoe wouldn't justify that pick

I thought about this one actually, but i wasn't sure if it'd count :oldlol:

3- Jizzo- Converse Weapons
a little ahead of my time but def a steal, i remember it making a comeback few years ago as well.

4- Stroshow- Reebok Question
one of my personal favourite too, one of those timeless designs, and like hateraid said, iverson has made a huge cultural impact and this shoe was there with him in the beginning, it was the cornrow, the tattoo, the swagger, the crossover, the question, the answer.

7- hateraid- Nike Shox BB4
I remembered when i first saw pics of it on the internet " shoes with springs!" and who could forget the BOING commercials with VC featuring Gary Payton

8- ProfessorMurder- Puma Plele
I know nothing about this shoes or soccer but goddamn it looks nice.

IMO an ever bigger technology innovation than the SHOX, I mean the shoe is one piece! It's really ahead of its time, 13 years after its introduction it still matches up with the technology filled shoes today in terms of performance. I just love how the shoe is put together, the outer shell, the inner bootie, the carbon fibre plate, full length zoom-air, even the chubby flat laces. I almost took the Foamposites when I went with the stabs. Nice pick.

And those Grant Hill ones were f*cking quality. I bought two pairs back in the day and balled int hem for like a year and a half straight. They were an amazing shoe to play in, super-comfortable and cool looking. Too bad Grant Hill flamed out, if he got to Kobe or LeBron levels (had he not got injured) those kicks would have been epic, and Fila, once the dopest outfitter, would have been live as f*ck.

So many good picks in this draft, f*cking loving it and definitely going shoe shopping this weekend, this draft has me amped up.

Sorry about missing lat time. OK two picks? I've got hoops, spikes, and lifestyle covered. Two Nike/Jordan and one adidas. Let's see...

Air Jordan 6. I know the colorway doesn't matter but we all know the carmines were the best.
http://www.kicksonfire.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/air-jordan-vi-carmine-retro-1.jpg

AND

The Nike Waffle Trainer. As it says, they're often mistaken for the Cortez, but they aren't. As far as I know they were the first mass produced Nike shoe.

Although it is in direct competition with the Puma Clyde shoe that I already selected, it does help me score another label (I know have 4 different labels, one less than the mandatory 5 for this draft), it is a true icon in the footwear realm and it helps me put the BBoy and lifestyle category on full lockdown with two of the freshest kicks ever made.

I cannot let one of my all time favorites and an all around kick ass shoe fall any further in this draft. Just wouldn't be right.

So with all that in mind, I select, the classic, iconic, more colorways than a 64 pack of Crayolas can come up with, with designs in constant update mode, the one and only...

The Adidas Gazelle

PF Flyers from one of the great sports movies. Can't believe I almost forgot about these

http://thisislavie.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/pf-flyer-1.jpg

And somehow I never owned a pair of these, but I'm going with the Answer IVs. When I was in grade school/junior high, it felt like everyone and their mom had a pair of these. Iverson crossed MJ in his original Questions, but I always thought these might have been the more iconic Iverson shoe and a better look.

My next pick is a totally selfish one. One of the coolest lowcut basketball shoes Nike has ever made, worn by those killer UNLV teams in the early nineties and a young Charles Barkley (though he is more famous for rocking the Air Alpha Force II). When they came out they were the shit, and a shoe I would totally love to get my hands on today.

One of my all time favorites...

I was shopping for some new sweat clothes for my kid for school. While I was shopping I came across a pair of Huarache's on sale. I was contemplating, Isaac has some joggers in the closet, should I just get the shoes?

Then I was thinking, I'm an idiot, this is a no brainer, needs and wants are two different things. So I did what I had to do

And Damn, these Huarache's feel good on my feet!

J/J, I got the track suit for my son, but I really did contemplate
