In proposed 3-way deal, Kings send Tyreke Evans to Pelicans, Nola's Vasquez to Kings and Robin Lopez to Blazers. Port sends picks and cash.
New Orleans, Portland and Sacramento have just verbally agreed to complete three-way trade July 10 that locks up Tyreke Evans as a Pelican

Nola didn't have the room to sign Tyreke outright?
If they did have the room, why throw away two assets that could have netted something positive in return?
Great move by Sactown and by Portland for getting Robin. As long as they didn't give away good picks.

Don't think they had the cap room as they just absorbed Jrue Holiday's contract. This also guarantees that Sacramento won't match.

Pending where Dwight, JSmooth, Iggy, etc go, Kings got a shot to contend for playoffs now. No heroball from Tyreke. A pure PG to run the team. And hopefully a scorer in McLemore who can contribute immediately.
The roster itself is solid, but the key addition is Mike Malone as coach, imo. If he can snap this team into mental shape and defend, they can contend for a spot. if not? Another 30~35 win season.

I like this trade.
Still don't like Gordon on that roster at all for the future, but next year they should be really fun to watch.
I actually like Evans on that team. He'll have a lot of room to operate with a bunch of really good shooters out there.
If they can somehow make it work...a small ball lineup of Holiday/Gordon/Evans/Anderson/Davis would be crazy hard to stop.

Holiday, Evans, Anderson, Davis is a great core moving forward with all of those guys under 25 and I actually like the fit.
If Davis becomes a top 10 player...that team could be really strong. I just think they have to move Gordon as soon as possible because he doesn't have a future on that team most likely. Keeping him just seems detrimental to the future...

I bet he does, but going forward they won't be able to keep him anyway. No way they can afford all of those guys in a couple years and they can't contend for titles now...so it's kind of pointless.
I'm still hoping the ship Gordon and fill out the roster a bit with actual needs. In the 2016 season they could be legit contenders if things break their way and Davis is a true star by then.

Won't Anderson be starting now?
I don't think so, but he could if Monty feels comfortable with AD at the 5. I see no way Monty will let AD play the 5 against the Hibberts and Howards. Whomever we sign might then slide into a spot starter role ala Jason Collins when he was in ATL when they went up against the bigger 5's in the league. But I personally don't think Anderson will start.

So Kings now look like:
Cousins
JT
Salmons
McLemore
Vasquez
-------
Chuck
Pat Pat
Outlaw
Thornton
Isaiah
R. McCallum
Jimmer
I still would like to see a charge at a SF. Maybe package JT + Isaiah + Jimmer for Deng/Granger. Also re-sign Aldrich and Toney Douglas.

yeah, they're definitely playoff contenders now, imo. The West will be stacked w/ teams hovering around 40 wins and vying for a playoff spot. I mean, I think as of rosters right now, Phoenix is the only definitive team w/ pretty much 0% chance at competing for a playoff spot, unless Hornacek is some god coach. ...maybe Jazz?
I got it like this for playoff spots, given rosters right now:
locks - LAC, San Antonio, OKC
almost guaranteed - Denver, GSW, Memphis
almost guaranteed depending on Dwight - Houston, Dallas
can compete to get in - Portland, Sac, NO, Minnesota, LAL
pretty much no chance - Utah, Phoenix
again, all pending further moves (Utah re-signs Millsap? Where Dwight, Iggy, JSmooth go? etc)

I don't know if it's possible, but I don't like that move. The Hornets need to trade Gordon for young pieces or picks. This core won't be read to contend for a couple years. So bringing in a near 30 year old Iggy for likely a long contract is silly.
I really am getting excited about this team. If they move Gordon for the right pieces...the Noel trade doesn't bother me nearly as much. Although a core of Evans/Davis/Noel/Anderson with a high 2014 draft pick and moving Gordon this summer would have been epic in my opinion.
But I get the pressure to win now.

I heard we were still talking to Dalembert. Lopez is not a 35+ minute player, so it makes sense to add another C for depth, and it isn't like we have the money to land a star C anyway. I like a big man line up of Aldridge, Dalembert, Lopez, and Leonard.

I think it's b/c he was projected to be a safe ~10 min backup who can help rebound and block shots, even if only for his career. His ceiling aint high at all, that's why he wasn't picked in the 1st rnd, really. But I think even moreso it was the fact that Portland needed depth. And they basically washed, in regards to depth, in this deal.

Well, his advanced college stats were pretty insane. He had a PER of 27.2, 62 TS% and 7 win shares.

Hmm... Will Vasquez play SG? I'm guessing so, unless the Kings want to move Marcis Thornton there... But then does Isaiah Thomas come off the bench?

Vasquez will be PG and Isaiah comes off bench is my guess. No way Vasquez usurps Thornton and McLemore for starting SG position.
2 backup Cs > 1 backup C? That's how depth works.
The only way we would have 2 is if we landed Lopez without giving up Whithey, and if we don't include him we don't necessarily get Lopez. I view this as exchanging 1 backup C for a more serviceable and experienced backup C.
You will be severly disappointed in Lopez. The dude sucks on defense.
I would only be disappointed if I had high expectations for him.
