Home and Home off a loss with Quin Snyder as your head coach and the competitiveness of Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell and I like the Jazz chances.
1 of 3 anyway. Take away Rudy and I'm still not sure the Jazz don't suck
Bojan Bogdanovic had a monster night. He had 30 points on 6 of 11 from three point shooting. Love the 11 attempts. He was also +38 on the night. He also went to the free throw line 7 times.
would love even more attempts when he's got it going and Mitchell doesn't

In the end, this was a great redemption game. There were some poor stretches and the Jazz still have some things to work out, but Snyder is trying new things. Dante Exum is back on the floor now1 and Gobert is still a defensive powerhouse, partially responsible for holding Karl-Anthony Towns to just 14 points in Minnesota. The Jazz will be fine and eventually they will be great, if the fan base can wait just a little bit longer.

Gobert proving again he's the MVP of the side. The runs teams are going on without his defensive presence are killing the side at the moment.
Ingles poor shooting needs to turn around too. He's not looking like the same Joe and a 30% rate on 3's isn't gonna cut it. Still got the playmaking ability going, but his shot is off ATM. Things like Ingles/O'Neale combing for 6-8 points a game is not great production ATM.

With just over 3 minutes to play, Donovan Mitchell crossed up Minnesota forward Robert Covington, sending him falling to the ground, as the Utah Jazz guard pulled up for a clutch stepback-3. On the box score, the basket was unassisted. But Mitchell credited a fan sitting on the front row at Target Center for helping set up the bucket.

Bojan Bogdanovic, who has been Utah’s most consistent force, was once again extraordinary, finishing with 30 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field and 6-of-11 from deep. Rudy Gobert was solid with 12 points and 15 rebounds while holding Karl-Anthony Towns to just 14 points. Donovan Mitchell once again struggled with efficiency, going just 9-of-24 from the field for his 26 points, but his 5-of-10 three-point shooting was reassuring.
Rudy isn't their most consistent force after almost 5 years of this?

Mitchell take a back seat? Right! :lol
Meanwhile, Dante Exum continued to look rusty as he went 0-of-1 in his seven minutes of play which produced a plus/minus of minus-16. Georges Niang was ineffective and Jeff Green was streaky. In short, once again when reserves were depended on, they failed to rise to the occasion.
how can you tell Exum looks rusty? Looks like the same crappy player he's always been to me Imagine what that 9 million a year could do to to the bench:rant
After all, they are relying on two guys on minimum contracts in Jeff Green and Emmanuel Mudiay to step up and play significant roles. Beyond those two, there’s Dante Exum who has a long way to go to get comfortable once again post-injury, Joe Ingles, who has been off all year long, and then a slew of inconsistent or unproven guys that round out the bench.
Green and Mudiay have both shown the ability to put points up off the bench in the past. 26 or something a game between them last year. Exum has never proven anything other than he sucks. Joe's play is worrisome as is Niang's actually. The fact that Kidd is still on the team is a joke though
So unless the Jazz decide to dip into the shallow free agent market or pull off an unbelievable trade, I’m not so sure what they’re going to do other than hope that the current guys can continue to improve and assimilate, and that Ed Davis can return quickly and leave a dramatic mark.
they have COTY and the Wizard and there is nothing they can do?

After fielding one of the deepest teams in the NBA over the past couple of seasons, the Jazz bench has become thin this year and a bit of a liability, forcing the Jazz coach to play his main guys longer minutes and having fewer options to turn to when the starters are struggling.
The only years they've been deep probably in their history was the couple non tanking ones with Corbin. Big reason they were in the playoff hunt at all with those teams

Juwan Morgan signed and Kidd released
Morgan was signed to multi year deal, probably similar to Royce. He was the best player on the Stars, and can play several roles.
Doubt we see him much this year but the Jazz liked him enough to spend more money. He was really fun to watch in Summer League, as he just worked harder than everyone else. He seemed really nervous when I watched him, and is doing much better in the G League
Posted by TheNextGM on Nov 21, 2019 | 3:04 PM
Multi year deal means this year is probably guaranteed. I thought he looked good in fall camp and with the Stars. He might play instead of Green at the 4 I'm guessing? So their only flexibility now is cutting Niang or packaging their deadweight in a trade? Need to at least have flexibility for buyouts:wtf:
Not sure how signing a 6'8" guy is going to help our backup C problem.
Posted by SKMike on Nov 22, 2019 | 12:43 AM
center is where they had him in preseason and with the Stars, Must be long? He's got a solid build
I posted earlier about how much we obviously miss Ed Davis, wanted to dive into the rebounding numbers a bit mroe
Bench rebounding with Ed:
1: OKC – 16, UTA – 15
2: LAL – 15, UTA – 16
3: SAC – 16, UTA – 25
4: PHX – 20, UTA – 18
5: LAC – 18, UTA – 15
6: SAC – 14, UTA – 3 (Ed played 7:46 before injury)
Bench rebounding without Ed:
1: LAC – 27, UTA – 11
2: PHI – 10, UTA – 13
3: MIL – 17, UTA – 15
4: GSW – 16, UTA – 14
5: BRK – 21, UTA – 16
6: MEM – 15, UTA – 6
7: MIN – 22, UTA – 13
8: MIN – 21, UTA – 13
So.. yeah. Those numbers tell a bit of a story. Rebounding isn’t even the only area where Ed >>> Tony/Jeff. I don’t think anyone needs to wonder "what’s up with our bench".
Posted by Alex Dye on Nov 21, 2019 | 3:43 PM
He gets his hand on almost every board so not surprising
This is why Davis needed to be much higher than Green in our preseason list
We don’t have a replacement for him. The plan is pretty much for Davis and Gobert to be healthy all the time.
Posted by Ethan Renshaw on Nov 21, 2019 | 4:21 PM
which was ridiculous for no other reason than just so Bradley could play in the Gleague. I'm guessing Bradley might get some run with the Stars now that they signed Morgan but they both need to be down there
No where near a capable #3 Center, (Udoh wasn’t either) and no plans to get one!
Bradley hasn’t got it but they still hope.
Dumb contracts like Exum 9m for an unproven player, always thought it was stupid. Joe I. extension, why?
It seem to me the FO/Organization are too loyal to the detriment of the "Contention Potential".
Look at how the Patriots use and reload their players, even some highly effective ones are let go to pick up new talent.
I think the Jazz hold on AND over pay players too often. (Exum, Favors, Ingles were/are all overpays IMO)
Posted by AdMan59 on Nov 21, 2019 | 5:11 PM
Udoh certainly was and Bradley is still the youngest guy on the team. Exum getting paid when he'd done nothing was a joke. Joe's extension after an off year isn't looking good right now. But typical Jazz moves all the way around. Been doing it for 4 decades now
Exum on the other hand has been a mistake and there is no other way to look at it. If they wanted to re-sign him when they did, they could have offered him half of what they did and still he would have signed, he wasn’t going anywhere else and if he did, well so be it. That was not a good decision. Hopefully he comes good at some point but it’s hard to argue, even if he does, that it was a good decision and represented value. Unless by some miracle he improves massively and becomes like a critical 6th man on a Jazz championship team and hits a game/series defining shot or something, which is absolute fantasy land at this point.
Posted by AussieBBallFan on Nov 21, 2019 | 7:50 PM
Exum shouldn't have gotten more than 1 guaranteed year. Would have come off the books with everyone else this past summer. Especially when I didn't get the impression that any other team was bidding for his services. The Jazz bid against themselves for him and Favors it seemed?

The NBA's addition of two-way contracts has had a number of unintended consequences, perhaps most notably the decreased number of viable players available for teams to sign during the season.
shouldn't need to sign as many guys since you have more available on your roster though
"One of the reasons why there's not that many options is even if they wanted to go get a young player, if they don't have him on their roster, there's only a handful of guys that aren't on Two-Way contracts that are NBA-ready, according to people I've talked to. On Thursday, the Jazz announced they had signed Morgan to a deal, which NBA scribe Keith Smith is reporting as a two-year, non-guaranteed pact. To make room on the 15-man roster for Morgan, the team has waived forward Stanton Kidd.
good. at least keep some flexibility please
Morgan has been involved with the Jazz organization since the summer; after going undrafted in June, he caught on with the team ahead of summer league play. The 6-foot-8, 232-pound forward can play the three and the four (perhaps even the five in a small-ball setting) and has a reputation as a good defender, rebounder and a hard worker.
Once again at least do your homework. He signed immediately after the draft. Sounds like they like him about as much as their 3 picks. He also played nothing but center in pre season and starts at the 5 for the Stars

I would think that considering that the Jazz gave Royce his NBA chance and that he has been able to flourish with this team, he’ll be anxious to stay with the franchise and work with them to find an appropriate agreement. What gets tricky is that with Utah’s current cap space situation, they may find it a challenge to fork out the necessary dough to retain O’Neale and keep him happy.
Do they have a choice? Maybe it will lead them to finally giving up on Exum?

3. Does the rotation need tweaking? After the six players named above, it gets dicier for the 2019-20 Jazz. Frankly put, the rotation has been a problem, and Snyder has experimented with staggering different starters into the second unit to try to stabilize groups that have bled points on the scoreboard. But lineups with two or fewer from that core group continue to struggle. Snyder has a tough call to make: does he stagger his starters more liberaly across the second unit, even if that means fewer minutes for his best players to play together? Or does he prioritize the strength of that core group and continue to sweat those bench stretches?

It looked like the Jazz were headed for a complete blowout loss but when Jazz coach Quin Snyder pulled the starters with 6:55 remaining in the game and down 18 points, the bench showed a lot of energy. The defense was better (five straight empty possessions for the Sixers) and the ball started moving. Suddenly, the Jazz were down only 10 and the starters began to trickle back into the lineup with three to four minutes to play.

Jazz with any 5 of Joe Ingles, Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell, Royce O’Neale, Bojan Bogdanovic, Rudy Gobert: +11.5, 928 possessions
So try to keep 2 or 3 of them on the floor at all times. Front office needs to get them help besides more rookies. Try something else besides just Mitchell with the 2nd unit. Looks like you need to try staggering Rudy so he can play with Ingles on the 2nd unit minimum or take out O'Neale early to play Ingles with Rudy in the starting lineup but not sure that helps Conley?
Are the bench players permanently bad? I think you can argue for realistic optimism for better play from one guy: Ed Davis. Davis has proven to be a good player for the last couple of years, and has yet to find that level of impact in a Jazz uniform. There are reasons to believe it will improve.
you have to hope since he's being paid the most and is on the books next year as well
Everyone else, being hopeful is not too far away from dreaming. Dante Exum has been a good rotation player for about 20 games in his NBA career... he may improve as time passes after his injury, but it’s certainly not a sure thing. Emmanuel Mudiay is young, but he’s been bad his whole NBA career. Jeff Green is who he is at this point: he’s going to give you about 10-20 good games per season. Georges Niang can make a shot and probably is going to be a negative at the other stuff.
Mudiay and Green have both shown they can score the ball. Exum can defend. Niang can do a lot more than shoot if given the chance. Snyder needs to try these guys in some different combinations
What I find mildly remarkable is that the other players who aren’t playing are somehow even worse in practice. They must be, given that they’re not playing. We know what Tony Bradley is. Nigel Williams-Goss must somehow be so bad that the underperformance of Mudiay and Exum hasn’t even made Snyder think about playing him. Juwan Morgan earned a 3 trillion tonight. He’s apparently more valuable than Miye Oni, who was made inactive tonight. Stanton Kidd apparently wasn’t the answer, but did anyone think he was?
a bunch of rookies aren't the answer? Wow who would have thought that when Mitchell is the only rookie that has ever been good to start a year under Snyder. I think a few of them could help at some point this year though
Gobert was efficient: he scored 19 points on 9-10 shooting and added 17 rebounds. Great! But he didn’t make his usual impact defensively. He did scare the Thunder from getting all the way to the rim tonight, and they only took 18 shots down there. But they made 14 of them. On those shots from 4-14 feet away, the Thunder were 9-19, again, a higher percentage than Gobert usually allows. He blocked zero shots, and it’s his third consecutive game with zero blocks. He’s not the problem, but he hasn’t been DPOY elite recently.
maybe he needs some help?

Utah got off to a good enough start, as it led 24-19 with 2:09 remaining in the first quarter. But as has happened numerous times this season, the Jazz offense stalled as the second unit came in (such has been especially challenging over the past three games as Snyder has had to tweak rotations due to the absence of Mike Conley because of knee soreness).
thought it was a tight hamstring
With Mitchell playing alongside Emmanuel Mudiay, Georges Niang, Jeff Green and Ed Davis, the Jazz surrendered that lead and trailed 25-24 at the end of the first quarter.

The Jazz have the worst bench in the NBA. There will be a little more on this tomorrow. The starters deserve better than this. The starting 5 can play great minutes (not tonight) and they will be completely vanished by a few bench minutes. It’s getting overly predictable at this point. Like the Stockton and Malone pick and roll, you know what’s going to happen and there’s nothing you can do about.
I think you could try do something about it instead of just sending Mitchell out with the 4 bench guys over and over again
Obviously health has played a role in that. But come one, you can’t tell me Exum is actually worse this year than he was as a rookie. He came in really late into the game and made a nice little impact. He played some good D, drove hard to the rim for a nice layup. Brought some nice energy. But one bad pass and bam he’s back on the bench after just a couple minutes of playing. How’s a kid supposed to play with any confidence or game sense if that’s always in the back of his head?
as a rookie Trey Burke was their only other option. Not about him being worse just about him never being very good and the other options improving. 9 million reasons to play with confidence

A possible reason for the Jazz flying under the radar is the minimal chatter about their rising star, Donovan Mitchell. The young jet is continuing to develop his game but with the sharp rise of young superstars such as Luka Doncic and Trae Young, Mitchell has almost become the forgotten star in the West and despite being the No.1 player on the Jazz roster.

Multiple teams have expressed interest in trading for Malik Beasley, league sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Charania adds that trade conversations have yet to gain traction.
Beasley, who did not sign a contract extension with the Nuggets in October, will be a restricted free agent next summer.

Utah found ways to not just lose games, but also avoid development of young promising players at the same time. We watched Derrick Favors be squandered on the bench behind unassailable minutes for Al Jefferson. We saw Gordon Hayward get benched to provide minutes for a washed up Josh Howard to play. What a great decision that turned out to be!
liked Howard and liked Hayward on the bench. Might have been a good thing in his development. This idea that young guys should get to play without earning it is why they just had to give up two picks to get rid of Dante :rant
But after that bottom 5 finish the Jazz made moves that would make improvements on the team First they hired Quin Snyder and then drafted Dante Exum and Rodney Hood in what was applauded as a great draft.

Coming in at fourth on this list, Ricky Rubio is one of those Jazz players I wished could have stayed longer had circumstances allowed. Ultimately it was his lack of outside shooting touch that did him in for being replaced by Mike Conley, but other than that Rubio was a great NBA player for the Jazz.
missed layups, to's bad D, bone head passes...
I was tempted to put Mike Conley in here, but as far as influence goes Rubio played in the stretch run of the 2018-19 season when the Jazz stormed back into the playoff picture. His 22 point and 11 assist outing versus the Hawks in February and his 20 point 13 assist performance on April fools day were some of his best games in 2019. Despite the trade buzz surrounding the Jazz with Mike Conley, Rubio dealt with it very well despite knowing he would probably play for a new team the following season.
he cried about it. How is that dealing with it very well? :lol
Before this season started, I assumed Mike Conley would be the second scoring option behind Donovan Mitchell. I knew Bojan Bogdanovic had done well in Indiana taking over the scoring load when Victor Oladipo went down with a quad injury, but I had no idea he was this prolific of a scorer.
even though he did it last year.:facepalm
Donovan Mitchell is no longer sneaking up on opponents as a draft steal; he is becoming a full-fledged superstar in the league. He is a consistent bet to score over 20 points in nearly every game, and the Jazz are built to go as far as Mitchell and Gobert take them.
superstar?
When Gobert is paired with Ingles, their pick and roll game is a thing of beauty. More often than not Gobert is an offensive threat, and a game changer/superstar on the defensive end of the ball. If defense got as much credit and hype as offense and scoring, then Gobert would be as valuable as LeBron James, James Harden, Luka Doncic, and other superstars.

Is finding a new backup center a high priority?
should be the highest priority
Aside from hoping Davis improves his play, the only other option is Tony Bradley, who has seen the most meaningful minutes of his career thanks to Davis’ recent incompetence. But Bradley currently seems only capable of a few minutes per stint before Quin Snyder begins anxiously counting the seconds before he can comfortably cut short Rudy Gobert’s resting spells on the bench.
Morgan needs a look
Frankly speaking, the Jazz don’t have any valuable players they’re willing to move. Emmanuel Mudiay, Bradley and Davis — the most expendable players at the moment — will hardly net much in return without sending compensation. The necessity to send second round picks to get Jordan Clarkson proves that point. If Utah wants better players than they have, they’ll have to pay for them in assets.
then that's what you do
Should Joe Ingles move back to the bench when Mike Conley comes back?
I think they have to try it again and hope having better players around him will help. Bradley can run the pick and roll and Clarkson has been great
An interesting tidbit, however, is that among Utah’s 20 lineups that have seen more than 15 minutes (and that aren’t impossible because certain players have been traded), the two best are lineups where Mitchell and Conley do not share the floor.
COTY has to figure a way to make it work
A little over 21 of Conley’s 29.4 minutes per game come with Mitchell on the court. It might behoove Snyder to cut that down by a few minutes and stagger his two backcourt scorers. The two are similar in some ways in terms of style, so, reaching into the realms of speculation, it’s possible the two are redundant and not quite complimentary. At least not yet.
One on court at all times makes sense but now you have Clarkson not to mention Mudiay as well
I think the second biggest surprise was how suddenly the Jazz parted with Jeff Green, and then replaced him with a much smaller player in Jayvon Tucker—when it is apparent that the Jazz are already undersized in the front court (other than Rudy Gobert, Ed Davis and Tony Bradley).
Having serious championship aspirations for the current season has apparently made Jazz management less patient than in previous seasons, as is also evidenced by the trade of Dante Exum (whom the Jazz has patiently waited on for over 5 years) for Jordan Clarkson.
The actions Jazz management has already taken in the early portion of the trade season creates speculation as to what additional actions Jazz management might take between now and the trade deadline—and whether any player (other than Donovan and Rudy) is safe from a trade (even prized new additions Mike Conley and Ed Davis), if the Jazz believe a trade would help the team in its urgent quest to be a legitimate contender.

Tonight brought a really fun basketball game, especially for Jazz fans. The Utah Jazz big three played spectacularly, with each having spurts of dominance. Rudy Gobert (https://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/297107/rudy-gobert), Donovan Mitchell (https://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/285727/donovan-mitchell), and Bojan Bogdanovic (https://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/296476/bojan-bogdanovic) combined for 64 points, 32 rebounds, and 8 assists. Plus, Jordan Clarkson (https://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/246165/jordan-clarkson) added an electric 21 points off the bench. The Jazz will be a very difficult team to beat if they get that kind of production from those four.
Defense will be their problem
I’m not going to take the time to review past mid-season trades. That’s a lot of Jazz history to dig through for a game recap. But my instant reaction right now is that Jordan Clarkson is one of the best mid-season acquisitions in Utah Jazz franchise history. He’s an absolute game changer for the bench. I’m to the point where I’m worried he’ll make more than we can afford this summer, but I’ll worry about that then. For now, I’m just going to sit back and enjoy him roasting teams night in and night out.
I'm more worried they'll pay him and not get the starting PF they desperately need

The next step is knowing how to bring that same type of mental fortitude into a game from beginning to end. Dictating the tone of a game through 48 minutes rather than waiting until the team needs it to happen is often the difference between good and great, or great and elite players.

Eaton never had Gobert’s athleticism. Gobert doesn’t have the girth and raw strength Eaton possessed. Eaton couldn’t move like Gobert and was more limited offensively. But the two shared characteristics. They are intensely competitive men. They took pride in their defense and their ability to pack the paint. In Gobert, Eaton saw a little brother and, finally, a guy to carry his torch. He was as proud as anyone when Gobert received his call to the All-Star Game. “He texts me a lot, and we talk often,” Gobert told The Athletic in an extensive interview. “It’s great to have someone like him look after me and to have someone to talk to. In Gobert, Eaton sees a sleek version of himself, someone who represents a better version of himself. The two men have formed a bond over the years. They talk regularly, not so much about basketball but about life in general. They are, in many ways, a tie between generations that doesn’t happen often enough. “I love it,” Jazz executive Dennis Lindsey told The Athletic. “Both of those guys, they have Jazz DNA. No matter when it was, Mitchell feels like he has something to prove. He expects a lot from himself. Because his own expectations are so high, he’s pushed himself to excel and has been rewarded with a very charmed young NBA life. “I’ve said before that I didn’t think I would be here but I’m at a point in my career where this has to be it,” Mitchell said of the success that he expects (https://www.deseret.com/sports/2020/2/14/21137801/donovan-mitchell-nba-all-star-weekend-utah-jazz-news-rising-stars-challenge).

"Conley is averaging 20.3/5.0/4.8 on 46.8/50.0/76.9 shooting after returning to the starting lineup."
I'd have to go check what Ingles numbers have been in the same span, but I'd bet they've dropped significantly. Going to the bench means he's with Clarkson instead of Conley, who controls the ball just as much.
I will say Clarkson's ability to finish at the rim has been a huge surprise for me however. Given his size you'd think he'd have more trouble. With how much Devonte Graham for the Hornets has improved this year it's an area he still struggles with massively. It'll be an interesting off-season to see how much both get offered. Graham can probably take advantage of the Hornets desperation a bit more, but I'm hoping we can keep Clarkson for the same sort of salary ($15 million per) on a 3-4 year deal.

Clarkson was listed at 6'5 before the new measurements so he's got pretty good size. He's very athletic. Kind of like watching a rich man's Devin Harris or Al Jefferson when they played here though. You know they aren't giving it up!
O'Neale needs to start. He's their 2nd best defender. Probably best rebounder of their non centers. One of their best shooters and doesn't need the ball like Ingles.
A starting PF needs to be the 1st thing on their list in the off season.

“When Quin got there, I was almost in the G League,” Gobert said on Saturday. “He really believed in me, he gave me an opportunity, gave me a chance to become a big part of this team and this organization. ... We’ve been through it all with one another, and I’m just grateful to have Quin as my coach.”
Come on Rudy! You should have spent your whole rookie year in the Gleague and it was brief. You put in the work. I thought you earned your rotation spot and than became the best player since Deron shortly after that
Drafted 27th overall in 2013, Gobert struggled under coach Tyrone Corbin to find playing time. At the end of the bench, Gobert rarely broke the rotation and had multiple stints with the then D-League Bakersfield Jam.
He wasn't physically ready
He was racking up multiple DNPs, minutes were scattered, he was fifth at best on the Jazz’s center depth chart and was becoming all too familiar with the long bus rides and sleepless nights that come with D-League assignments.
Millsap, The Black Hole, Favors and Kanter. Rudy should have played? :oldlol:
It was, of course, five years later that Gobert was left off the All-Star team and infamously became emotional when speaking to reporters the following day about being snubbed and receiving a tearful phone call from his mother.
It was two years later when he was first snubbed
“When Gordon (Hayward) left, everyone thought we were going to be a lottery team. We didn’t think that way — we had different plans,” Gobert said. “Then you have that rookie that comes in and does what Donovan was doing and all of a sudden everyone gets excited again and we are where we are today.”
Hayward wasn't their best player
Mitchell’s journey to becoming an All-Star has not nearly been the roller coaster that it’s been for Gobert. He was a contender for Rookie of the Year honors, he’s never known what it’s like to miss the playoffs, and he’s an All-Star in just his third year.
and unlike Rudy he hasn't earned it yet

Gobert has obvious limitations on offense. According to Basketball Reference (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/goberru01.html#shooting::none), 83.1 percent of his shot attempts have come within three feet of the basket. The Jazz still rank eighth in offensive rating (111.9), though, per NBA.com (https://stats.nba.com/teams/advanced/?sort=OFF_RATING&dir=-1&Season=2019-20&SeasonType=Regular%20Season).
Because it's the most efficient shot in the game still :facepalm
The two-time Defensive Player of the Year remains effective when defending away from the basket as well. He's holding opponents to 33.4 percent shooting beyond 15 feet and 34.5 percent on three-pointers, per NBA.com (https://stats.nba.com/player/203497/defense-dash/).

“He’s had a great year, for sure, but not sure everyone fully trusts it yet,” a league source told The Athletic. “It’s been the most consistent he’s shown his whole career. I think, maybe, $5 (million) to $7 million per year (is what he’ll get).” Then there’s this evaluation … “I would expect him to get a mid-level value, something like $9.7 (million) annually,” an NBA agent said (https://theathletic.com/1616534/2020/02/19/what-will-re-signing-christian-wood-cost-the-pistons/?source=dailyemail).

Wood has impressed all year, as a bench man and even as a starter. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent this summer after playing this season on a vet-minimum deal. At the trade deadline, the Rockets and Celtics, two championship-contending teams, made multiple offers to Detroit for Wood, (https://theathletic.com/1616534/2020/02/19/what-will-re-signing-christian-wood-cost-the-pistons/?source=dailyemail) per a source. With Donovan Mitchell, I believe the story is a bit different. I think Donovan Mitchell has his best basketball yet to be played this season. It’s been a bit of an up-and-down year for Mitchell, although the ride as a overall unit has been pretty awesome, hence the All-Star appearance. He’s coming off kindof a weird stretch of games lately where he played some of the worst basketball of the season prior to the All-Star break. You could tell from watching him play that they just wanted to make it to the break, which is a pretty common thing among NBA players the week of the ASB. With that all behind him, I think Spida explodes in the remaining games for the Jazz this season.
Doesn't sound like an all-star
I said about two months ago that I truly believed Donovan Mitchell contained the keys to unlocking the true potential of the Utah Jazz, and I stand by that. If he can play the best basketball of his career in the next few months, the Jazz will contend for a championship. It seems strange to still be relying on a 23-year-old to lead you to glory, especially when you consider the fact that Rudy Gobert is playing on an MVP level and Bojan Bogdanovic (https://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/296476/bojan-bogdanovic) has been one of the best supporting role players in the NBA this season. But even with that, Donovan Mitchell will decide the fate of the Utah Jazz this season, and beyond.
Bojan is arguably more of an all-star. He doesn't do much more than score but he's more consistent at what he does

https://thejnotes.com/2020/02/20/utah-jazz-stating-obvious-jarrell-brantley-good-g-league/
Jarrell Brantley, a Two-Way player for the Utah Jazz, looks dominate as ever with the Salt Lake City Stars in the G-League. When does he get his NBA shot?
When he hits the 3 and turns it over less? . If they played him at center his shooting wouldn't matter but does he deserve to play over Bradley or Morgan? He can only be with the Jazz for so many days which plays a part as well
Unfortunately, the Jazz didn’t have a spot on the main roster for him, so they decided to give him a Two-Way contract. This contract allows players to spend up to 45 days with their NBA team while spending the rest in the time playing in the G-League on assignment.
They did have a spot. They decided on Oni, Green, Davis etc. instead though
He’s looking more and more like a legitimate NBA player after each game. In 28 games, Brantley owns averages of 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 52 percent from the floor and 31 percent from the three-point line.
His 3 % has went up recently. Be tough not to play him if he becomes reliable with that
We don’t know what his future is going to look like, but you can’t help but feel pumped for this young man. He’s balling right now and has caught the attention of many fans.
Many fans? Those same fans that thought Bradley sucked because he'd only played quality minutes with the Jazz once before this year?

Adding another piece to the puzzle could have went a long way, but it also could have costed more than they are willing to part with. The Jazz made their big addition (Jordan Clarkson (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/clarkjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-)) earlier this season, and the buyout market has looked underwhelming.
Has more to do with no roster spots and the Jazz being the Jazz
Robert Covington (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/covinro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-), DeMarre Carroll (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/carrode01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) and Jeff Green (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/greenje02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) all fit perfectly in Houston’s small-ball strategy. They will make the Rockets even tougher to play against. I still, however, believe that the Jazz are on par with them as well.
tougher than Capela? That remains to be seen
They still have some problems to address, such as rotations, consistency on the defensive end and taking care of the ball, but I’m satisfied with where this team is at. They’re going to be a dangerous team come playoff time.
no mention of their lack of size outside their 2 centers. No starting PF.
If this team ever reaches 100 percent health and plays to their 100 percent potential, they are one of the few teams that can realistically win a championship this season, in my opinion. Unfortunately, most of those teams reside in the Western Conference — go figure.
They are 100% Healthy. :facepalm
The Jazz have the best defensive player in the sport, shooters that they haven’t had in previous seasons, guards who can create for themselves and a brilliant coach to lead the way. They are built for a deep run.

statistically he's been better. Last year for sure
