Case in point: Last season, it became a major item of discussion how the Jazz played 25 of their first 41 games on the road, and how they were hardly ever at home for two games in a row. Utah wound up going 20-21 in those games. The home-road imbalance shifted in the last 41 games, of course, and Utah went 30-11 in the second half. The schedule matters.

The second game on the road against the Los Angeles Lakers (Oct. 25) should be interesting, as should an Oct. 30 home game against the LA Clippers. The Jazz also get the Sacramento Kings at home (the second game of a back-to-back) and the Phoenix Suns on the road to start things off.


Need to win all but the Lakers on the road though the back to the back might be tough

too much focus on playoff teams. Need to be looking a westeren and eastern conference game. Not many easy ones in the west. Have to expect to dominate the east though

As important as Gobert is on defense, Mitchell may very well be equally important on offense. And if he can improve in both decision making and efficiency from a year ago, he could come extremely close to unlocking his full potential.

over 17 a game when Favors was benched in favor of Johnson/Diaw. This team is that one on steroids. How the numbers shake out is anyones guess but he and Mitchell will be better than ever certainly

There's no doubt. It was obvious OKC was trying to take away the roll in the first game which opened up the floor for everyone else. Pick your poison. Lakers will have a hard time stopping him with McGee/Howard.

As such, you can bet that they’ll be anxious to bounce back with a big win in their first official home game (last game was a home contest for the Clippers, but it often felt like a home game for the Lakers). The Jazz will face several questions in the contest such as how will a smaller Jazz squad stop both LeBron James and Anthony Davis defensively? Can they find their shooting stroke that’s been lacking? Can Conley get in a groove? Can Donovan Mitchell replicate his efficient outing from the first game?


Matchups go both ways? Why is it no one ever seems to realize that?


Royce O’Neale got the start in Utah’s season opener and I imagine he will yet again, though it will be interesting to see if Quin Snyder opts to make a change to better contain the combination of James, Davis and JaVale McGee to matchup with their size. Considering how infrequently Snyder changed the starting lineup last year, though, I’d predict he’ll lean more towards in-game adjustments and less towards switching the initial starters too much.


Despite his size O'Neale is their best defender outside Gobert. They will have to chase him around too.


I’ve long been of the mindset that the Jazz are going to take about 25 games to get their feet underneath them, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see this be one of the early games they drop as they face a challenging opponent on the road.


Looked good in game 1 as far as I'm concerned and they've been a better road team under Snyder. If shots start falling good luck stopping them

There is no more waiting for Enes Kanter to develop good defensive habits. There is no more need to grimace every time Trey Burke takes a bad shot. 17 guys. I think they have a 12 or 13 man roster during the season plus the 2 way guys I think so I'd guess their 4 draft picks, Benlevi and Hudson are fighting for the final slots. Benlevi is the one that sticks out on paper though it was at a small school. Filled the box score. Toolson is local and his dad played for the Jazz which could help his cause. Nelson-Ododa looks good on paper in the G-league last year though only 7 games. Blocks and boards. Fletcher had his moments with the Stars last year as a stretch 4 and was on their summer league team I believe. Pryor looks like a shooter with Gleague time last year.

Kidd could see some time at some point too but he's almost 30 so who knows. I guess they could all work out with them during camp as well. Exum might too who knows. Be nice to see him get some rehab time down there and prove himself before he plays for the Jazz actually

Rudy Gobert is getting better. He was truly fabulous tonight. He alters every play. He protects the rim, changes shot charts, effects offensive rhythm and disrupts everything the other team wants to do. Tonight he also grabbed 18 rebounds. He nailed 11 of 12 free throws and 8 of 8 in the clutch.

When that blender gets churning, it’s nearly impossible to stop. I’ve never counted, but there are some possessions where the Jazz pass the ball a ton! Pass and cut, pass and cut, swing to the corner, drive, make the 17th extra pass, open 3. It’s beautiful when that ball is zipping and guys are moving. I just love seeing the defense scrambling and doing their best to rotate knowing full well that someone already is or soon will be wide open.


What's really beautiful is that now someone that can actually hit an open shot will be shooting and not Rubio or Favors

The Clippers still have a lot of talent. Jazz without Rudy and one of their other big 4 wouldn't be as good


Teams need time to jell.
It was only a matter of time for Conley. I’m not going to expect 29 from him every night, but 18 isn’t unreasonable. I’m also not going to expect games like the first four every night. If the Jazz can get everything humming and in sync, it’ll be a fun season.

Hopefully He Can Play Like This Consistently.
We’ve had guards in the past who would show up about once in every 4 or 5 games and shoot lights out before disapearing again for several more games.

I hope this him finding his groove and finally showing he was worth the trade and not just a one of.

We saw that all last year with teams backing off of Ricky Rubio to make it impossible for Mitchell to get a head of steam to the rim, or space to rise and fire from mid range. Add on to that teams backing off of Crowder and Favors and it was a giant mess.

Tonight Conley shot 40% from the field and 33% from three. Not numbers that will blow you away, but he was a +19 in a game the Jazz won by two. I know plus/minus is super noisy but that tells you something about how much the Jazz starting unit is benefiting with Conley on the floor. This also tells you that when Conley has big shooting nights, the Jazz are going to be lethal.


I love how there was no mention of the stat as you slobbered all over Mitchell.


Bradley is never going to be an elite big in the league, and he’ll always be at the disadvantage of unfair perceptions by playing behind the most dominant defensive player in the league, but he’s showing signs of becoming something very solid for Utah in the future. You can do a lot worse with your 3rd center.


Might have to think about him as your backup center. Based on what I've seen so far their 5 starters and Ingles are the core. After that they can look to make this team better. Keep Bradley, Oni and Brantley as the cheap young guys ideally though you might have to use them just to get rid of Exum

Some speculated as to whether or not Bogdanovic could provide that additional scoring or shooting boost that they showed was so desperately needed. The Jazz will be at a significant size disadvantage in this one. Milwaukee has a pair of literal twin seven footers in Brook and Robin Lopez. Giannis at 6-foot-11 inches will have the size advantage over any Utah power forward. How Utah handles the size of the Bucks will be a key to this contest.

Yes, there are things the Jazz absolutely have to clean up. The late-game turnovers, poor decisions, clunky offense and other stints of bad execution, to name a few. But the fact that they have managed to overcome even some self-inflicted wounds to overcome top-tier teams is a testament to just how good they are and also to how much better they can yet become as they get more accustomed to one another.

The general consensus among NBA writers and fans was that the Warriors were not serious title contenders, but were a lock to make the playoffs as a 6-8 seed. I certainly thought this, as the Warriors still had Steph Curry, Draymond Green, D'Angelo Russell, Kevon Looney, and Willey Cauley-Stein. Oh, and former Jazzman Alec Burks, of course. The Jazz bench had a tough first half going 1 for 10 from the field but they carried the day in the 2nd Emmanuel Mudiay went 4 for 4 in the 4th quarter with 2 assists and 10 points. Jeff Green hit three three pointers in the 4th quarter and brought the Jazz back into the game.

Ja Morant is outstanding. He is the best rookie since Donovan. He is taking over games and the best player on the floor for extended periods the way Donovan was three years ago.
