Anyone ever heard of this? Apparently Facebook wants to be internet big-brother and provide free "internet" access to millions- while simultaneously only allowing access to Facebook and a few partner sites- mostly so they can collect/use/sell personal data.

Indian government (and many other governments) are not okay with it. This is insane. They already have Some countries 100% on Facebook controlling cultural influence including effecting elections. What are your thoughts? When do you think Facebook will attempt to roll this out for the American population?

Facebook and Google need to **** off. I'd rather pay for the internet or not use it at all than have anything to do with whatever Facebook offers for free. The fact that they already create shadow profiles of people who DON'T use Facebook is already bad enough. They are evil scum. Terrible for the world. Imagine this internet idea combined with Google's "smart city" idea. Life wouldn't be worth living for anyone who valued privacy.

Isn't Star Link going to provide free internet to some countries?

I think so. It’s a race for population control. With this level of widespread control they can also laser focus it in a tailored way for groups of people as well as an individual. It’s great that countries are denying this intrusion but I’m not sure our populace will recognize it when it’s in their face

These corporations wield great power and work with governments as a proxy. Big brother has been privatized.

I remember doing a case study for my MBA on this topic. Facebook is nuts for trying this move. If I recall correctly they surveyed the free basic users and a majority of them didn't even know the difference between using Facebook and the Internet. Some didn't even know that by using Facebook was in fact using the Internet.

Essentially the Indian users were being taken advantage of by Internet.org / Facebook. Had like 100 million users too, providing "free" internet with only select preloaded apps to use.

If you’re stupid enough to use Facebook and give them all your info then you deserve this kind of shit..
