Being 6’7” right off the bat makes Juzang a solid prospect. It’s interesting that Juzang went undrafted in the recent draft, because he was slated to be drafted the year before but decided to go back to college after seeing where he’d be drafted. He returned to UCLA (https://www.bruinsnation.com) where he helped lead the Bruins to the sweet 16. In college, Juzang showed an ability to score in a myriad of ways which helped him lead the team in scoring. He has nice touch and is quicker than you’d think off the dribble. Because he’s not super athletic, his skill is going to have to be high. His size and skillset is reminiscent of Georges Niang. If he can become a knockdown three-point shooter like Niang, he should have a very solid NBA career. For him to get there, he’s going to likely spend a lot of time with the Salt Lake City Stars, something Niange did and we know how much it helped him.
Niang was already one of the best players in the Gleague when they signed him to the two way I believe.

https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/15/knicks-reject-latest-utah-jazz-trade-idea-donovan-mitchell/
There are other teams that can offer similar players for Mitchell, but the Jazz are after as many picks as they can possibly get, and the only team that can give them what they want, and that’s the Knicks, so even if negotiations go on for the next few months, all signs point to Mitchell heading home before the 2022/23 season. The latest news on DeAndre Ayton now being un-tradable until January rules a few other teams out, so now, it looks like Danny Ainge has been forced to deal with just one team, and will spend the next few days and weeks trying to get as much out of New York as possible.
Danny might wait until the trade deadline if he has to but hopefully it's done by the time the season starts along with all the other vets!
While New York are still the favourite, the Knicks rejected the Jazz’ latest trade proposal for Donovan, which was reportedly Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin, Quentin Grimes, Miles McBride and six future first round picks. The Knicks young core depends heavily on the energy and passion that Toppin, Quickley and Grimes bring, and while six first round picks may end up being the return for Mitchell, the Knicks won’t give up most of their young core to make this happen.
To get something you have to give up something. Keep Toppin and give Danny the 7 or 8 picks he needs. James ****in' Dolan!
Over the coming weeks, expect negotiations to continue between the two sides, but if the Jazz want a record haul of picks, as many expect them to get more picks in return than the Rudy Gobert deal, they’ll need to lower their expectations on the player return from The Big Apple.
Don't count on Danny giving up much. He wants Grimes and the picks and pick swaps and whatever else he can get out of them. Sounds like to me you can throw in whatever other players in that you want if you give Danny that. I'm sure pick swaps will be a whole other thing! He owes Mr. James ****in Dolan that much at least! :D

https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/16/what-should-be-the-jazzs-asking-price-for-donovan-mitchell/
After getting a huge haul for former All-Star center Rudy Golbert, the Utah Jazz (http://www.thejnotes.com) are now open to trading Donovan Mitchell (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mitchdo01.html) and should have a steep asking price for Mitchell. While that could mean a lengthy rebuild for the Jazz, they could get even more in return for Mitchell. After all, he’s five years younger than Golbert, is a three-time All-Star, and is under contract for at least three more seasons.
younger and overpaid. Who wants to pay the price?
All that works out well for the Jazz, who now have the NBA’s hottest trade asset, even surpassing Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. That gives them the ability to further reset the roster and add even more assets for the future. But what should the asking price for Mitchell be? Let’s examine.
not sure I'd call him hotter than Durant. Jazz might get more for him than Brooklyn will but more teams want Durant. He's one of the all time greats. Mitchell isn't! Only Lebron wants Kyrie!
The Jazz’s decision to listen to offers for Mitchell is likely due to several factors. One is that replacing Golbert is nearly impossible, so the team will probably be worse next season. After winning a respectable 49 games, finishing 5th in the West, and losing in the first round, taking a step back could mean that they’re only a play-in team next season.
they would keep Mitchell if they thought he was going to carry them to titles. He won't. They would be bad
The San Antonio Spurs dealt Murray to the Atlanta Hawks and given his similarities to Mitchell; the Jazz should look at what the Spurs got for him. Both guards are 25 years old, and while Murray is a better defender and passer, Mitchell is a better shooter and overall offensive player.
I'd much rather have the two way stat stuffer myself. But James ****in' Dolan!
In fact, they have a total of eleven first round picks, and young players like Emmanuel Quickly, Quintin Grimes, and Obi Toppin available to trade. It remains to be seen what the return for Mitchell will actually be. That said, the Jazz’s asking price should be at least five first round picks, two pick swaps, and a couple of promising prospects.
the price is more than that. Might not be the final price but currently it's 7 1sts and Grimes at least

https://sircharlesincharge.com/2022/07/15/nba-trade-rumors-raptors-bogdanovic-target/
Bogdanovic is on an expiring contract with the Jazz and likely won’t be part of the rebuilding phase in Utah. It wouldn’t be surprising if he was shopped before the season but could be more of a deadline day target. Unless the Jazz tries to staple him to a possible Donovan Mitchell deal.
ideally it all happens before camp starts in about two more months!

The other important wrinkle in this is Utah has already orchestrated one blockbuster trade of epic proportions this summer. By trading away Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah has reset the market for what it takes to give up an All-NBA caliber player. While they got a boatload of picks from Minnesota for Gobert, they may have hurt themselves a bit with Mitchell’s market.
Doesn't sound like it's hurt them at all. Mitchell is bringing them at least 4 1sts from the sound of it and maybe 7! We'll see what Ainge ends up settling for but it's a lot more than Mitchell will ever be worth. The Gobert trade they won't likely win. Minnesota likely ends up with the best player

Is Oklahoma City (https://www.espn.com/nba/team/_/name/okc/oklahoma-city-thunder) willing to dive into its bevy of first-round picks for the superstar guard?
That could actually be a good fit at least in the short term with him and Shai he can stay at sg and they have some great young players coming in behind them. Doubt Presti wants him though. Sounds like Shai is available as it is

https://fansided.com/2022/07/15/knicks-turn-down-jazz-trade-6-first-round-picks/
If that seems like an absurd haul, remember that the Timberwolves just gave the Jazz five players (including their last two first-round picks), four future first-round picks and a pick swap. You can argue endlessly about whether Mitchell or Gobert are actually more impactful but Mitchell is higher-profile and would seem to be more conventionally appealing. So it’s no surprise the Jazz are asking for so much.
you could but there's never really been an argument for Mitchell over Gobert. It's not close. If it was Ainge would be keeping Mitchell and maybe Rudy too
However, the Jazz have also made clear they don’t think the Heat can offer enough so if they can’t extract the deal they want from the Knicks, they may have to choose between settling for less or rolling into next season with Mitchell still on the roster.
He might settle or he might just raise the demands. We're talking Ainge and Mr. James ****in Dolan! :lol

https://sircharlesincharge.com/2022/07/15/nba-trade-rumors-jazz-picks-mitchell/
If draft picks are what the Jazz is after, perhaps the Knicks should be considered the favorites (https://sircharlesincharge.com/2022/07/14/nba-trade-rumors-knicks-favorites-mitchell/). And that’s what we’ve been hearing the most since the Mitchell trade rumblings grew louder and louder. Amongst the teams that would be interested in Mitchell, New York has the most draft picks available to trade.
the market is NY and that's plenty unless two or three teams can put together a better package somehow? Knicks seem most likely because of their history of screwing up their team every time they clean up the previous mess! But if the Kings or the other badly run teams want to get into it I'm game. Mr. James ****in' Dolan is my great white hope right now though!
In bargaining, you must always start high. But if five or six future first-round draft picks are the ask for Mitchell, you’d have to seriously wonder if the Jazz is that open to trading him. Even the Knicks, who have the means to make it happen, would have to tread carefully with that type of deal.
He's as good as gone. Ainge asks for the impossible and settles for the biggest haul in history.

Looking on Real GM's trade checker where they have the players that teams have the rights to as well. The Knicks is a bottomless pit of those guys including Tomic who is now 35! But they got some guys that might have value. Ainge needs to go after them as well. This was a big tool for the Spurs when they were winning. They drafted a pg last year still only 21. Rokas Jokubaitis, high 2nd round pick, 6'4. Playing in summer league now with them. They have the rights to 4 other guys in their mid to late 20's that might still have some value?

It’s been a tumultuous summer as Danny Ainge and Justin Zanik have made some bold moves. They’ve already traded Donovan Mitchell’s close friend, Royce O’Neale to the Brooklyn Nets (https://www.netsdaily.com), didn’t match qualifying offers for Mitchell’s best friend Eric Paschall, and didn’t re-sign Trent Forrest, who was also close to Mitchell.
can still bring Paschall and Forrest back
You could say that’s a sign that the offseason is going well for Utah. Now, they’ve signed a respected coach and former player who comes with the experience of winning a championship.

The Spurs are destined for an all-out tank in 2023, but all the other younger teams want to try and win now. The Thunder and Rockets have some young players, and the Blazers seem to think Damian Lillard can get them to the postseason. The Kings have Fox and Sabonis, so there’s no reason for them to throw games. It could be a race to the bottom, but with all the draft capital from a hypothetical Mitchell trade, the Jazz will be back in force soon.
only Kings and Blazers are trying to win
Of course, the ideal offseason would include keeping Mitchell, staying somewhat competitive, and then using their three first-rounders in 2023 to build a real roster by as fast as next season. That seems to be the easy way out and would keep fans happy in the long term.
it's unrealistic so I wouldn't be happy

In the case of Mitchell, the fact Herro is contract extension eligible this offseason — and would be a restricted free agent in 2023 if no extension is reached — gives the Jazz pause. Especially considering Herro is asking for a max contract. While he may not get the full max, he will land a big number deal. The rebuilding Jazz are not looking to add that to their payroll right now — it’s why they are not interested in RJ Barrett from the Knicks in a trade (Barrett, too, is up for a big new contract). Robinson already signed his extension and has four years, $74.4 million left on it (the last year is a player option). In the case of Durant, the Nets want an All-Star and the buzz from league sources is they are lukewarm on a Herro and Robinson package, even with more picks (https://nba.nbcsports.com/2022/07/16/report-heat-trying-to-acquire-more-picks-to-trade-for-mitchell-or-durant/). Never count out Pat Riley. He has a way of making the unexpected — and seemingly impossible — happen. And there is a reason the Heat are in the mix for both players.

What have your conversations been like with D’Angelo? Chris Finch: Incredibly positive, of course. He’s very excited, as all of our guys are. He knows how important a rolling big is to his game. (https://www.startribune.com/timberwolves-chris-finch-rudy-gobert-karl-anthony-towns/600190582/?refresh=true) … One thing we might not be able to do as much is kind of play him off the ball [on defense] as much as we had done as a roamer. We don’t need that now. He’s got to be a little more locked in. … That’s going to be a little different for him. His competitiveness on the ball, everyone might have to guard their natural position a little bit more than we had done in the last year. So those are all things that come to mind initially when I think about it. But he’s very excited. We feel like this gives us a chance, gives him a chance to get the best version of him, which is what you want.

What’s the big priority in the offseason with Ant? Chris Finch: The big priority for him is to continue to really get better at the things he’s good at. Attacking and finishing. I think his finishing can certainly improve. The Jazz signed Juzang to a two-way contract and for a team that looks like it could be heading toward a major rebuild, that means more opportunity.
more opportunity for some. Jazz will be full of young guys. Only so many get to play
“Guys like (Jared) Butler and Juzang are about to get 30 minutes a night,” one scout said. “That’s not a bad spot to be in.”
Doubt either of them plays that much. Juzang is a two way so should be playing mostly for the Stars
Juzang is a natural scorer who coaches describe as having an innate feel for the game. At 6-foot-6, weighing 208 pounds and with a 6-foot-11 wingspan, he has the frame and the ability to become a classic 3-and-D player.

This is also another signal that the Utah Jazz are doing what’s best for the team, not just the wishes of current Jazz player Donovan Mitchell. In a way, it’s a freeing feeling. Utah can go after the best players available without having to get a signoff from a player that doesn't seem interested in being on the team long-term. Who knew that would be such a healthy development for the Jazz?!
Ainge. Never a good idea to kowtow to your players especially when it's not even your best player
The Jazz have a lot more moves to make, including a massive potential trade of Donovan Mitchell (https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2022/7/14/23215922/donovan-mitchell-trade-knicks-new-york-jazz-quickley-toppin-grimes), but it feels like the Jazz are content right now making all the other moves they need to while they wait on the Knicks to give the go-ahead on their current trade request. A crazy summer for the Jazz continues!
I'd guess we'll start hearing of some movement by Miami and others to make a competing offer so Ainge can get his 7 1sts somehow. Definitely some other teams that could add picks and talent to the trade. Probably end up being NY in the end after Ainge makes them sweat a bit. James ****in' Dolan!
Hansen, if Danny does not get what he asks for, is it possible we tank with Donovan? DM can play 30+ mins per game to maintain good stats, but we can have our 2nd unit finish the games to guarantee we tank. We also trade Boggie, Conley, Clarkson, Beverly for any young/ pick we can get by Fall. DM can lead and all the young players gain experience. Next year, we have 3 picks, ours which can be lottery, then 2 more at least assuming we dont get more 2023 picks for the vets we have (which we can use to trade up too). And we can use picks we get from our older vets or some of the MIN ones to get another good player next year (and we will still have picks left). In 2-3 years, we will be very good and we have Donovan's Bird rights. He is not going to leave us for max somewhere where he can get supermax. Why settle for less now to trade DM ?
they were tanking the moment they traded Rudy rather they knew it or not. How hard they tank is the only question now. Mitchell is not a max guy who can lead a team anywhere. Ainge realizes this

https://www.slcdunk.com/2022/7/17/23268052/utah-jazz-finish-las-vegas-summer-league-with-a-win-over-the-denver-nuggets
This game was a perfect example of Butler’s summer league. Butler ran the offense well by reading the defense and setting up his teammates with impressive passes. In this game, Butler had 6 assists and was a +14. Like he has all summer league, Butler struggled with his shot shooting 20% from three and 35% from the field. Butler shows flashes of a really nice offensive game, but for whatever reason, he hasn’t been able to polish his game into well-rounded efficiency. For example, multiple times this game Butler would get by his man with a nice first step but couldn’t finish at the rim. Other times Butler would miss three-point shots, and would look timid the next time he’d have a potential shot. The next step for Butler on offense will be his ability to find his efficiency within Will Hardy’s offense. It makes this a vital season for Butler because if he can’t find that ability to score, the league may pass him by.
He's listed at 6'3 but seems small. He's still young and has a lot of talent. He'll be fine
After a long summer league, these three players have a chance to really grow and impact this season for the Jazz, it’s up to them to improve their respective games. It’ll be fun this season to see if they’re able to. If they don’t, we’ll have more players coming into the league next year. It’s a cold reality of the NBA, get better or get replaced.
There's another two way(though I'm not sure he keeps it?) and 4 exhibit 10's. Might be some others in the mix for camp and the Stars too
Danny, Seriously you want to trade DM for NYC scrubs and late FRPs ? Its going to be hard to even find someone half as good.
I'd be surprised if they didn't end up with someone better than Mitchell by tanking maybe more than 1. Gobert maybe not

Having signed Johnny Juzang recently, and now Simone Fontechio, the Jazz are closing in on a final roster. But more signings probably depends on what happens with Donovan Mitchell, Bojan Bogdanovic and Mike Conley. A game like this today is a final chance for players looking to make the Jazz roster can make an impression on the team.
I hope they aren't close to a final roster. A lot of work to be done. Too many vets
Great pass by Butler for a Cockburn dunk. Not sure why others don't see the potential in him. Still think Quin made a big mistake not finding 10 to 15 consistent minutes for him every game. Especially after Joe went down.
the Stars are there for a reason
One point of view. We had Trent Forrest out there. Not tanking but was pretty obvious we didn't care that much about regular season wins. Just think his development would have been sped up if we did. We drafted the guy. Had high praise for him. Played him when we needed a body
Forrest was better. A lot of ways to develop. Don't think having him on the floor when he wasn't ready helps anyone
why is Butler on the team and Forrest not ? Danny should have waived Butler and signed Forrest. No ? Wait ... you know more.
Forrest can't shoot. Butler can...we hope!
They don't like Butler because they think that will somehow reflect poorly on Quin's decision making. While they were perfectly fine playing Trent Forrest who would never be able to learn to shoot.
I don't think that is necessarily true. His shot looked better last year. The bigger problem is getting him to let it fly. If he could get even respectable on open shots he's have spot in the league for a long time
agree, that needs to be developed and it improves by him getting mins that Quin didn't give. He already has shown progress by tonight just by playing the past couple of weeks.
he develops that with the Stars and in practice. This idea that guys have to suck at the NBA level to develop is ridiculous!
But he is surely better than Forrest (whom is not on the Jazz anymore)
But i think he should be given a fair shot before a decision is made
he's not. Forrest dominated the summer league last year even with his lack of a shot. Butler has more upside because of his age
Yes, he shows flashes of very interesting things, but i really don't know why he played so few in all that summer league...... sometimes i just don't understand the goal of the summer league when you take players and don't play them
17 players. They all got time
but you ever worry about his release? seems like he brings it up from his waist and has a low release spot
that's what I saw when they drafted him. Figured they'd work on a higher release like they did with Ingles
have you seen how he dresses?
exactly! I thought he looked like a douche when he first started sitting on the sidelines with his big hats! :lol

So where are the Utah Jazz without Mitchell? Well, with seemingly infinite draft picks (https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/09/utah-jazz-debate-series-three-ways-utah-won-the-gobert-trade/), they will have a brighter future than any of the true cellar dwellers, but their record next season might be one of the worst in the conference.
OKC?
The Spurs are destined for an all-out tank in 2023, but all the other younger teams want to try and win now. The Thunder and Rockets have some young players, and the Blazers seem to think Damian Lillard can get them to the postseason. The Kings have Fox and Sabonis, so there’s no reason for them to throw games. It could be a race to the bottom, but with all the draft capital from a hypothetical Mitchell trade, the Jazz will be back in force soon.
Only Blazers and Kings trying to win

not sure Rudy and Royce are fan faves
Give Ainge and owner Ryan Smith credit for willing to take a gigantic risk rather than staying the course. Instead of keeping a likely playoff roster mostly intact, the management group is gutting the nucleus.

James ****in' Dolan!
While a deal could be announced any minute, reading the landscape tells us it’s more likely that news will break in a few days to a couple weeks. Great ready to strap in. The Utah Jazz and the New York Knicks are set to dominate the NBA headlines for the rest of the offseason.
It will probably take a while with all the moving parts picks, protections, swaps, etc. That's why the Jazz have so many front office people though!
The Knicks believe Utah wants to begin the season with a tank-ready roster at all costs. They don’t believe the Jazz are interested in either cobbling together a decent roster by first tip or keeping Donovan in limbo until a deal is done.
Ideally I'm sure but Ainge will hold out until he at least gets the minimum of what he wants and he'll probably get a lot more
Danny Ainge has walked away from many deals in the past, like trying to acquire Anthony Davis and being unwilling to include Jayson Tatum. He’s also fast tracked deals when the return is satisfactory, like in the Rudy Gobert deal.
might have a title in the bubble but otherwise Tatum all day every day over the crutch
Ultimately, Danny Ainge’s reputation wins out here. It’s too early to say what kind of a GM Leon Rose is but there are undisputed facts. New York has signaled desperation and intention. Utah has signaled availability. It’s ultimately about getting close enough to the asking price to cross the threshold.
Ainge and James ****in' Dolan. The Perfect Storm! Almost feel sorry for Knicks fans...almost!
As hard as it may be as fans, let’s take a page out of Ainge’s playbook and exhibit patience. By all accounts, a deal will get done. The longer Danny holds out, the better deal Jazz fans can reasonably expect.

The most glaring part of his game was his defense. Juzang is not a freak athlete, and he just looked slow. The worst part is, that NBA players are quicker and faster than Summer League players, so Juzang has a lot of work to do on that side of the ball.

The framework is there, but Juzang has a long road ahead of him. Per his contract, he can play 50 games for Utah this season but expect him to make minimal appearances and develop more in the G-League.

They’ll also have added a dozen first-round picks and swaps and about a half-dozen intriguing youngsters. There’s a very real chance the Jazz will enter this season with their biggest contributing holdover being Rudy Gay. They may not have traded their entire team, but going from a respected contender led by two All-Stars to Rudy Gay’s band of merry gentlemen is about as big a turnaround as any franchise can swing from one year to the next.
need to get rid of him too even if it costs
In the NBA money rules everything, everything is commodified. Especially hope. See how good Memphis is? New Orleans could take a Grizzlies-level leap this year. Indiana is exciting and new when they looked to be running out of steam. New York could go from a backcourt of Alec Burks and Evan Fournier to Donovan Mitchell and Jalen Brunson. Brooklyn went from meh to the favorites in a single day three years ago. All these deals and the lives they uproot — players who don’t want to be traded, their families, support staff who work for them — are justified by fans wanting a reason to hope for better days.

https://saltcityhoops.com/devils-in-the-details-quick-cap-refresher-on-relevant-offseason-issues/
The salary cap this year is $123.7 million and the tax threshold is set at just over $150 million. That means it’s pretty likely that the Jazz will operate as an “exceptions” team this year: staying well over the salary cap but under the tax. It’s important to know that as we ponder how other transactions might be set up. For example…
you really have no idea since the roster is going to change a lot still
Similarly, they could use Malik Beasley and Bojan Bogdanovic to acquire an almost endless combination of players. They could get two $20M players; or a $18M guy and two $10M guys, or two $15M guys, a $8M guy and a $3M guy. What they can’t do is combine their salaries and bring back a single $40M salary. That may not be the Jazz’s goal anyway from a competitive standpoint, but even if they’re just looking at ways to take on short-term salary for assets… they CAN trade the new guys in the same deal as their current vets, they just CAN’T combine their salaries to step up into a larger money tier.
I'd keep Beasley if they think he can be a good influence on the kids
That’s a long way of saying that if someone went to camp and played their way in front of Johnny Juzang or Xavier Sneed, the Jazz would still have the option of rewarding that player with the promotion to a two-way spot. They’d have to waive one of Juzang/Sneed to make it happen, but the move would be cap neutral. Juzang/Sneed would walk away with whatever portion of their salary had been guaranteed up front (or earned by the time they were cut), but that dollar figure would only matter in the Jazz’s checkbook, not on their cap sheet.
I'm guessing Sneed will be replaced at some point

Assuming the Jazz don’t make any moves–which is a big ask–then Malik Beasley (https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3907822/malik-beasley) and Jordan Clarkson should both be big-time bench scorers. Beasley has not had a magnificent career, but he is a deadeye shooter with high volume and has shown he can average 15 points for a long stretch.
why not just wait to do this article? I realize you seem to only care about the amount of content not the quality
Last season, Mike Conley (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/conlemi01.html) averaged 13.7 points per game. With Gobert gone, that number should go up, closer to 15 a night. That being said, I highly doubt both Conley and Patrick Beverly (https://www.nba.com/player/201976/patrick-beverley) will start the season on the roster, so whichever of them earns the starting point guard role should take this spot.
I can't imagine either of them will be around
Last season, Bojan Bogdanovic (https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3593/bojan-bogdanovic) was the second-highest scorer on the Jazz, but this season I suspect that he might take a step back. With a more backcourt-oriented team, Bojan might be lost in the noise a bit. At age 32, he is still producing at a high level and is still in his prime, but I suspect Will Hardy will emphasize a younger core, so Bojan will be the odd man out.
than why is he still on the team?
With Gobert gone, Jordan Clarkson (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/clarkjo01.html) is clearly the second-best player on the team. One of the best bench pieces in basketball, he can explode for big numbers off the bench and is a must-have down the stretch. In two and a half seasons with the Jazz, he is a 17-points-a-night kind of guy, and if Conley or Beverly needs an early breather, Clarkson can slot himself into the starting lineup.
clearly? I'd say he's the worst player the franchise has ever had. He's certainly not btter than Bojan, Conley, Beverley, Beasley or even Gay as far as I'm concerned. One of the best bench pieces who can't shoot, is always shooting and doesn't defend. Must have! :lol
I expect them to lose most of their games but I'd like to at least enjoy the play. Clarkson isn't fun to watch
In terms of bench guards, he is third in shots from the paint, third in shots made, and fourth in paint touches. Practically no one in his position does what he does, and he can do it at an elite level. He could average 20 this season if the Jazz decide he is a centerpiece.
no one else is allowed to do what he does and I doubt he ever is again either unless him and COTM hook up again
Assuming he remains on the team, the ninth-best scorer in the league should easily lead the Jazz in points for the sixth straight season. Donovan Mitchell (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mitchdo01.html) is one of the most lethal scorers in the game, and it should be no shock that he comes in first on this list.
he's gone
The Heat, Knicks, and Sixers are the primary teams listed (https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/15/knicks-reject-latest-utah-jazz-trade-idea-donovan-mitchell/) as possible landing spots, and if I had to make lists for those teams as well, Mitchell would come in first for all of them. He is clearly a better scorer than Jimmy Butler, RJ Barrett, and Julius Randle, and the Sixers would retool their system around Mitchell so Embiid might take a step back, even though he’s a dominant paint player.
clearly? We'll see how his inefficient gunning goes without Gobert on the floor with him
I would love to see Mitchell stay in a Jazz jersey because it means that the front office thinks the window to contend is still open. It could be, there’s no reason to shut it too fast. With Gobert gone, Mitchell can become the undisputed franchise guy and the Jazz can build around him, or they can start from scratch. Either way, Donovan Mitchell will remain an elite player and scorer and will help whoever he plays to win games.
Gobert is gone. It's over. Mitchell just isn't that good

https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/19/utah-jazz-consider-tanking-season/
This is despite having players like Pat Beverly, Mike Conley, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Jordan Clarkson. All they’d do is keep the team from bottoming out so maybe the Jazz should consider pressing and holding the reset button on the roster. However, that could lead to the Jazz tanking next season, but should they?
Clarkson might assure that you bottom out. He's that bad!
Then again, with all the young additions to the roster, that might be hard to do. In that case, the Jazz might be better off leaning into a rebuild by looking to move their veterans for even more picks. Moreover, the asking price for Beverly, Bogdanovic, Conley, and Clarkson should be a first-round pick for each. They may not get that for all of them, but they could package two of those players together in a trade to take back a bad contract. That would net the Jazz more assets while helping make their own pick even worse.
prefer the bad contract at the deadline so you can just buy them out
So the higher their own pick, the better position they’ll be in, in a historic draft. Overall, while tanking might go against the Jazz culture, the team is already trending in the direction of a rebuild. Therefore, the Jazz should continue to stockpile assets by trading their remaining veterans, which should also improve their spot in next year’s loaded draft. So the Jazz should look to tank, in hopes of finding their next star.
Gobert is gone. They are tanking. How hard we shall see

It remains to be seen what his role will be for the Utah Jazz this upcoming season. At 6 foot 8 with his scoring ability and in particular his three point threat he could prove to be a valuable rotation piece on a team friendly deal. If Danny Ainge and company do decide to trade Donovan Mitchell and completely rebuild the team then fans could expect that to see Fontecchio in action throughout the season as he proves whether or not he has the skills to remain in the NBA.
his role will be as one of the young vets on a tanking team even though he's a rookie too!

The Utah Jazz have engaged teams in trade talks involving Mike Conley, Tony Jones of the Athletic reported while on Spotify Live with Marc Stein. Utah doesn't seem to be finding a lot of market for the veteran point guard, however.
not much market for anyone at the moment
Conley is also coming off a bit of a down season. He's improved his shooting, but Conley's defense and playmaking have fallen off some as he's aged.
his playmaking was fine when he wasn't spotting up while Mitchell and Clarkson played 1 on 5. Just too small defensively

Can we talk about how there was no drama? He signed up for five more years, ostensibly in a place where free agents don’t want to come, and he didn’t even bat an eyelash. There’s no Kevin Durant trade request. There’s no chatter about moving a guy like Donovan Mitchell on the Utah Jazz (https://*********.com/lists/nuggets-rumors-nikola-jokic-jamal-murray-michael-porter-jr-kentavious-caldwell-pope/). People around the Nuggets were pinching themselves that they were fortunate not to have to deal with some of the BS that other teams have to deal with. It’s a testament to who Joker is and the relationship they’ve built since he came over in 2015.

Would Donovan Mitchell really be a good fit for the New York Knicks?
No especially after signing Brunson but that is the beauty of James ****in' Dolan!
“In essence, he provides just about everything the Knicks hoped they might get from Kemba Walker last summer, only a hell of a lot more of it with seven fewer years of wear and tear on his body,” Devine wrote.
he's never been as good as Kemba was carrying a bad team in Charlotte. He is younger. Have fun NY!
“The ability to shoulder a massive offensive load — only (Luka) Doncic, (Trae) Young, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo posted a higher usage rate last season (https://stathead.com/tiny/BUUTv) — makes Mitchell one of the most valuable weapons in the game,” Devine wrote.
Clarkson has a high usage too. Mitchell could average 35 a game but it's hard to imagine him carrying a team
During this year’s playoffs, Mitchell rated 91st in points allowed per chance among 98 players who defended at least 30 drives, according to Second Spectrum. He was also 85th out of 92 players who guarded at least 25 off-ball screens.
“It’s awfully tough to win it all if your best player is a defensive liability,” Devine wrote.
at least they'll have Mitchell Robinson and Thibs to throw under the bus in NY when Mitchell does what he does(or doesn't)

https://www.slcdunk.com/the-downbeat-latest-jazz-news/2022/7/20/23220774/does-tanking-actually-work-in-the-nba
Does tanking actually work in the modern NBA?
Depends on your objective I guess. Are the Jazz likely to get another statue that has only shown up in Utah about every 10 years(Stockton and Malone back to back)? No. Are they likely to have flexibility and have a chance at something grander? Sure. The thing that is different this time is Ainge. He's certainly better than anyone they've ever had by far. He gives you hope that he's going to nail a lot of draft picks which we've never seen in Utah
Yes. It probably does. Danny Ainge is intentionally clearing Utah’s roster of talented players that fit a team trying to win now and replacing them with young players and draft picks. Losing many games this season will likely be the targeted outcome, as it would raise the chances of getting a top pick in the upcoming draft. The 2023 NBA Draft (https://www.sbnation.com/nba-draft) is regarded as one of the best in many years, and Utah already has three first-round selections to make in it. They could get even more, depending on future trades.
I'd expect many more. Next draft is certainly what Danny is aiming for to accelerate the rebuild. Knicks have 3 or something next year right? Still should get some picks out of the other vets. Danny has to start having some fun at some point!
When the “Grit’n’Grind” era of the Memphis Grizzlies was winding down, the Grizzlies put on Marc Gasol and Mike Conley on the trading block. While they only received a couple of first-round picks in the Conley trade and none in the Gasol trade, they also got movable assets and flexibility. They embraced a quick tank, dropped into the lottery, and wound up with the number two overall pick. With that, they selected Ja Morant. Over this time frame, they also drafted Jaren Jackson Jr, Desmond Bane, and other key players. They grew together and organically created a playoff team. Last season, Memphis finished 2nd in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies are still very young and have higher heights they can reach, but it is clear that they’re building in the right direction.
they got bad which is the key to tanking and why they weren't able to do it for long last time when Gobert emerged unexpectedly. The Jazz picks for being bad will be the key not the picks from other teams. Jackson and Morant made you relevant especially Morant. Those players are still hard to come by no matter how much you tank. Just look at the Kings
In 2018, LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second time. They went from the NBA finals (https://www.sbnation.com/nba-finals) to a 19-63 record in just one season. They had no choice but to rebuild from the ground up. Being on the bottom meant they got some top picks in the drafts. They selected Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and others with those picks. They also packaged veteran players to acquire Jarrett Allen, another solid piece for their young core. Now they’re in their upward growth, building towards playoff contention. Mobley looks like a serious centerpiece, while Garland and Allen are arguably all-star caliber players right now. Cleveland is in the middle stages of the rebuild, going from the lottery to the playoffs. This coming season could show us a hint of just how successful the rebuild has been.
been very successful. Jazz would be doing great to get a Mobley type player. You forgot Sexton who is comparable to Mitchell just without Gobert carrying his ass!
The New Orleans Pelicans are another team who recently found themselves in the position of a star player demanding a trade. In 2019, New Orleans traded Anthony Davis to the Lakers (https://www.silverscreenandroll.com) in exchange for a massive trade package highlighted by Brandon Ingram. Also included in the package were three first-round picks, multiple pick swaps, and other young players. In the following years, New Orleans began to rebuild and struck gold when they won the first overall pick in the lottery. With that pick, they selected Zion Williamson. Although Williamson has had trouble staying healthy, he’s looked like every bit of what was advertised when he plays. Despite his injuries, the Pelicans have grown and developed to the point of making the most recent playoffs. If they continue to grow while getting healthier, they could cause trouble in the West.
Jazz could be in a similar position if they get the French kid who history tells us is unlikely to have a long healthy career because of his size

“Listen, I don’t know what the expiration date is on saying he’s still young, but the guy’s still young. He still has room to grow, and I think he will,” Thurl Bailey, a former Jazz star and analyst on the team’s pre- and postgame shows, told The Post in a phone interview. “I think he’s a superstar already.” (https://nypost.com/2022/07/21/jazz-analyst-thurl-bailey-donovan-mitchell-a-superstar-already/)

“He’s not a guy who walks straight to the elevator or straight to the training room,” Bailey said. “You can tell who the giving souls are, you can tell who the guys are that are selfish, and you can tell why guys do things, and Donovan isn’t one of those guys who does it for publicity. (https://nypost.com/2022/07/21/jazz-analyst-thurl-bailey-donovan-mitchell-a-superstar-already/) He does it because that’s the way he is. He was raised with that quality, and he hasn’t lost it. “One of the things that Donovan can and will get better at is his on-court leadership. It’s OK to get into a guy on your team every now and then,” Bailey said. “There is a way to do it. One of the elements that I have been waiting to see [out of him] is that alpha dog attitude. (https://nypost.com/2022/07/21/jazz-analyst-thurl-bailey-donovan-mitchell-a-superstar-already/) I’d like to see a little bit more of that outwardly from Donovan, especially in difficult games, difficult parts of the season. https://saltcityhoops.com/bridging-the-gap-on-mitchells-value-using-star-trades/
The apparent gap between the two parties really got me thinking: just what is the value of Donovan Mitchell?
a lot less than what the Knicks think!
If the Knicks use any players in this thread in an attempt to reduce the Jazz’s asking price, they will focus on Jrue Holiday (two unprotected picks, two pick swaps) and Dejounte Murray (two unprotected picks, one protected pick, one pick swap), but that probably won’t fly. Holiday was older than Mitchell, and neither player can equal Donovan’s three All-Star appearances. Today’s Mitchell is more valuable than 2020’s Holiday or today’s Murray.
I'll take either of the two way players myself
Rose, in particular, will be 34 years old when the season starts, and will likely have little interest in sticking around for a rebuild in Salt Lake. The Jazz could try to relocate him, but the list of veterans they are trying to accommodate is getting quite long. Because Rose only has one guaranteed year remaining on his contract, there’s a chance the Jazz would be able to buy his contract out at a slight discount for the second time, cementing the legacy of Jazz legend Derrick Rose.
he should have value. An expiring contract
Fournier is younger than Rose, but is owed nearly $37 million over two guaranteed years, making it harder to execute a buyout and even more painful to waive. Not only does he not fit the on-court timeline, but the extra contract year also impacts the cap sheet next offseason, something the Jazz probably want to avoid for several reasons. If the Jazz take Fournier in a trade with the Knicks, they will likely want to move his contract no later than the 2023 offseason.
Danny won't be having much fun if any of this vets are on the roster after the trade deadline
Neither Rose nor Fournier has anything to do with the value of Mitchell, but the inclusion of either player in a Mitchell swap might alter the required return in the deal. I guarantee that if New York traded these players into space to sign Mitchell as a free agent, they would pay a hefty fee for the salary dump. The Knicks know this well, having just sent out a variety of assets to clear $28 million in cap space to sign Brunson as a free agent.
doubt it. They aren't Gay. They have value

His best season in Utah came early in his run with the team, as the 1983 season saw him put up 31 PPG, along with 5 assists and 6 boards per game, and it’s just very unfortunate that this came at a time before John Stockton or Karl Malone joined this iconic franchise.

While Mitchell’s future is still up in the air, it is seeming more and more likely by the day that the Jazz are asking for more than teams are willing to give up in a trade for Mitchell. If he does stay in Utah, Mitchell will continue to be the cornerstone of the organization and build upon an already strong relationship with Hardy.
that is how you negotiate. Ask for more than you will get. Not the Kevin O'Conner 2nd offer on the table from the only team that knew Deron was available. Mitchell is gone. Move on

Utah Jazz: Will Danny Ainge get his wish?
No. If it was up to Danny he'd destroy the Knicks franchise. He'll have to settle for 4 or firsts
According to NBA writer Marc Stein, Danny Ainge has been playing hard-ball in any trade conversations (rightfully so), and has asked for six, potentially seven first round draft picks in return for the young All-Star. Given Donovan’s lack of official comment or trade request, the Jazz have plenty of time to move him, and if the offer isn’t right, Ainge is likely going to stick to his guns and wait for the right offer. But that raises the question, is there any team that can provide what he is asking for?
there is. He won't get what he's asking for but it will certainly be more than Mitchell is worth and the Knicks might not even make the play in

don't love getting Westbrook but 5 1sts including 3 from Knicks. If those are unprotected they couldn't complain. Westbrook sits until trade deadline or is bought out immediately. Can't imagine they want Reddish either unless they have a pretty good idea what an extension looks like with him. Get Grimes. Knicks keep Toppin and Barrett. Don't like helping Lakers but it won't matter when Lebron, Davis and Kyrie aren't playing again. I'd think you'd want Rose instead of Fournier but he probably has more value even with two years on his deal. Crowder expiring. Should be an asset. Shamet would be one of the young vets you keep to lead the tank! The Lakers pick could be a great one too. Not sure what kind of protection is on it? Bojan ends up on a true contender. KSL Sports’ Sam Farnsworth was at Vivint Arena to check out some of the Jazz gear and noticed they had a clearance rack for “former players.” The jerseys hanging on that rack are Mitchell’s No. 45. It would make sense of Mitchell’s jerseys to be on the clearance rack since the Jazz unveiled new uniforms before Salt Lake City Summer League. But the rack says “former players.” That raises even more questions on whether Mitchell will remain with the Jazz or not.
can't wait! :lol

https://kslsports.com/489857/donovan-mitchell-knicks-jazz-trade/
Saying that Ainge was able to get a lot for trading Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves is an understatement. The Jazz ended up landing (https://kslsports.com/489223/jazz-officially-trade-gobert-to-timberwolves/) Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Balmaro, and rookie Walker Kessler, plus they are getting unprotected first-round picks in 2023, 2025, and 2027. Then a 2029 first-round pick that is top-five protected and swapping the 2026 first-round draft picks.
and they probably will still lose the trade and that is no understatement just the odds
So, it makes a lot of sense for the Jazz to want an even bigger haul for Mitchell. The Knicks are desperate but they have not given into the Jazz demands which with the latest reports say they want the Knicks to send over seven first-round draft picks (https://*********.com/rumor/1734173/).
it makes no sense for anyone to pay more for a lesser player no matter the age. But that's why we love James ****in Dolan!
“Over the weekend the story came out, and someone joked they even want the Statue of Liberty in this thing,” Esiason said on WFAN (https://www.audacy.com/wfan/sports/knicks/boomer-ainge-being-a-douche-to-knicks-donovan-mitchell), “and this is why I was saying last week that the Knicks shouldn’t panic. While I want to see it done, you have to be realistic about it – and Danny Ainge right now is just being a d*****.”
sounds like Danny might finally be having some fun?
Hearing Esiason go nuts over the Jazz wanting to better their team is quite hilarious because any team in a position of power would want to get as much as possible, and if it were reversed, the Knicks would be doing the exact same thing. It could be that New York is slowly starting to get things turned around by signing Jalen Brunson to a massive deal worth $104 million, plus they have Barrett who they want to keep on their roster and not give up in a potential Mitchell deal. The Knicks have a lot of draft capital but they might give up the majority of that for Mitchell.
turn what around? This will destroy their franchise for a half a decade at least!

https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/23/utah-jazz-predicting-what-a-rebuild-would-look-like/
With Gobert traded for four first-round picks, and Donovan Mitchell on the block for even more, the Utah Jazz will be set up well for a full-on rebuild. Luckily, it should be quick, if done right. Unfortunately, all rebuilds, no matter how fast, have their painful moments.
what is quick half a dozen seasons? He isn't going after picks because he's in a hurry. We've seen Ainge won't skip steps as they love to say in the business. People thought he should have moved faster with the Celtics but he was right. Look at them now
The Process, by all definitions, should be considered a total failure (https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/dan-wolken/2021/06/20/sixers-process-draft-joel-embiid-ben-simmons-failure/7767057002/). The Sixers wasted four seasons losing on purpose and did a horrible job with their high draft picks. Yes, they rolled the dice on Joel Embiid, but other than that every single pick blew up in their faces. For starters, they drafted Jahil Okafor and traded Jrue Holiday for Nerleans Noel. That’s three centers taken in the lottery in a row. Most teams only play one center at a time, so why you wouldn’t draft for fit at all is behind me.
BBA
Second, the Sixers took Micheal Carter-Williams Markelle Fultz, and Ben Simmons. Two of those guys won Rookie of the Year, but none of them can shoot from anywhere, making them nearly obsolete in today’s NBA.
Simmons is nearly obsolete because he hasn't played for a year Otherwise he's hardly obsolete as an all star. Carter Williams is around too isn't he? Fultz a starter
On the opposite end are the Boston Celtics. Their rebuild was far from perfect (https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2019/6/19/18684460/celtics-rebuild-collapse-kyrie-horford-hayward-tatum) after trading Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. They experienced bad luck with Gordan Hayward, traded for Kyrie Irving, and until recently fizzled out in the playoffs. That being said, they traded the first overall pick in 2017, allowing Philly to take Fultz while the Celtics got Jayson Tatum. They also played it safe and got a good all-around player in Jaylen Brown, then spent a lot of time developing his shot.
played it safe by drafting an all star! :facepalm
The Jazz could go all in on the tank for one season. If they trade Clarkson, Bogdanocivh, Conley, Beasley, and Beverly the Jazz could bring that 17 pick total up to 22 at most, giving them an average of three and a half first-rounders every year. In a loaded upcoming draft, they could package those picks to move up or hope their guy falls to them at any point down the line.
you forgot what they will have to give up to get rid of Gay
Most rebuilds are painful episodes that take several years, but if the Jazz go all-in for just one season, then by 2023-24 fans will have several reasons to be excited about the future. The team won’t be competing by then, but the framework and vision will be in place and clear. As the Suns, Warriors, Clippers, and Lakers start to fade, the Mavericks, Pelicans, and Grizzlies will emerge as contenders, and the Utah Jazz could be right in the thick of it.
probably be worse after they draft a bunch of 19 year olds than they will be this year

If Danny Ainge does indeed embrace the rebuild like many expect, then it’s likely that every player received in the Rudy Gobert trade, except for 2022 first round pick Walker Kessler are going to be traded away, and while they may not net a huge draft haul, at this point, any future draft capital helps Ainge and the Jazz. It’s tough to predict which teams are interested in Vanderbilt, as he could fit as a backup forward on almost any playoff team in the league, and he will give them valuable playing time, but at this point, any draft capital and shed salary will help Ainge going forward.
Kessler is as available as anyone I imagine. An unprotected first should do it!

https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/23/does-mike-conley-have-a-future-with-the-utah-jazz/
I expect Miami to be willing to give up Duncan Robinson after his lack of minutes down the stretch in last year’s NBA Playoffs. His cap hit of about $17 million in 2022 helps balance the salaries well, but the Jazz would need another player to make the trade go through. Ömer Yurtseven and Haywood Highsmith are players the Heat could give up to make this trade balanced per the NBA salary cap rules. Whether or not the Heat will also throw in a first-round pick is up in the air, but Heat President, Pat Riley, might do it if he thinks this deal will help the Heat win their first title since 2013.
Ainge would rather have 1 plus years of Conley than 4 of Robinson!
Phoenix would be a great landing spot for Conley to back up Chris Paul. Phoenix’s package is headlined by Landry Shamet and Dario Saric, who are the keys to making this deal work by balancing salary cap problems. Shamet, Saric, and a first-round pick for Conley is a deal that would be put through per salary cap rules and is a real possibility. In this mock trade, I included Cameron Payne and Jarred Vanderbilt for two reasons. Firstly, Conley will take a lot of the backup point guard minutes that Payne is used to seeing, and secondly, Vanderbilt is an upgrade over Saric and possibly enough for the Jazz to receive a first-round pick from the Suns in return. In my eyes, this is a deal that would elevate the Suns in the Western Conference and one that I believe that they should accept.
this one makes more sense. Send Payne and Saric elsewhere
After losing starting guard Jalen Brunson in free agency, the Mavericks should be looking for a player like Conley to add to their roster for next season. Conley could slide into the starting lineup in place of Brunson, but the Mavericks also might be looking to give the younger Spencer Dinwiddie more minutes and bring Conley off the bench. Either way, Conley is a good fit in Dallas and can elevate the Mavericks team looking to build on their trip to the Western Conference Finals this past season. A package of Davis Bertans, Frank Ntilikina, and a first-round pick is likely enough to get Danny Ainge to pull the trigger and send Conley to Dallas. Bertans is a necessary piece in any trade negotiations between Dallas and Utah for Conley to help level the salary caps, and between Josh Green and Ntilikina, I think the Mavericks are more willing to give up on the latter.
Bertans contract isn't wanted is it?

If the Jazz can buyout Westbrook and get away from Conley’s deal, they will have plenty of money to spend, as well as an extra 10+ picks, and some young players, highlighted by Horton-Tucker, who has been touted by Lakers fans as a future star in the NBA for the past 2-3 years now. Los Angeles has certainly been hesitant to deal THT in previous deals, but the team can’t go into 2022/23 with Russell Westbrook as their starting point guard, so in order to help their starting lineup, they’ll need to include him in a deal.
Westbrook isn't giving up much in a buyout

I thought that this might be a good time to be specific about how NBA information is disseminated. In particular, I want to talk about how information leaked about the possible upcoming trade of Donovan Mitchell points to an almost inevitable conclusion (https://www.deseret.com/2022/7/23/23272048/how-donovan-mitchell-trade-rumors-leak-utah-jazz-new-york-knicks-danny-ainge). First of all, information about a trade of this magnitude usually only gets out because the parties involved want the information to get out. The motivations behind leaking something to the media can vary depending on the source — an agent might want to drive up value, an executive might want to gain the upper hand, another executive might want to create a bidding war, a player might want to increase the odds of a deal getting done, someone from within an organization could be looking at a power grab, etc.
– via Sarah Todd @ deseret.com (https://www.deseret.com/2022/7/23/23272048/how-donovan-mitchell-trade-rumors-leak-utah-jazz-new-york-knicks-danny-ainge)
Additionally, a trade rumor like the one involving Mitchell does not get leaked without the intention of a deal getting done. The Utah Jazz did a very good job of hedging on their plans early in the offseason. (https://www.deseret.com/2022/7/23/23272048/how-donovan-mitchell-trade-rumors-leak-utah-jazz-new-york-knicks-danny-ainge) They didn’t come right out and say that they wouldn’t be trading Mitchell and they also didn’t get near saying they would.
– via Sarah Todd @ deseret.com (https://www.deseret.com/2022/7/23/23272048/how-donovan-mitchell-trade-rumors-leak-utah-jazz-new-york-knicks-danny-ainge)
Through the early weeks of the offseason, executives within the Jazz could have very easily told reporters what their long-term plans were, but they didn’t. They were tight-lipped right up to a point. Then, once a couple of reporters had been tipped off that trade talks were underway, you might have noticed that more and more reporters confirmed and added to the original story (https://www.deseret.com/2022/7/23/23272048/how-donovan-mitchell-trade-rumors-leak-utah-jazz-new-york-knicks-danny-ainge). That’s all very normal. After the initial shockwave of news being broken, if sources close to a situation want to keep a message consistent, they will take calls from multiple reporters and reiterate the same kind of details to multiple people. It’s very intentional.

But times change and the Jazz, after a run of seasons — including all five of Mitchell’s years in Utah — are breaking up the band and seem set on a restart, already dealing away Rudy Gobert. And every source indicates that the Knicks are the most likely landing spot if the Jazz move Donovan Mitchell, something that admittedly are open to now (https://www.newsday.com/sports/columnists/steve-popper/nba-mkj4zm19).

Bam Adebayo might prove able to push past last season’s disappointment of losing Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals to the Celtics, but he apparently is not letting go of being beaten out for NBA Defensive Player of the Year the last two seasons by Marcus Smart and Rudy Gobert. “I should have won it the last two years,” Adebayo told the assembled campers (https://clearthis.page/?u=https://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-heat/fl-sp-miami-heat-ira-nba-column-20220723-hwn36rw32fhqhbw4bjjgx66h3a-story.html) at the Heat’s youth clinic, when asked about his ongoing goals, “and I will win it this year.” Caesar’s Sports Book has Adebayo as the second choice, at +700, to win 2023 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, behind only Gobert (+550), well ahead of Smart (+1000).

Sure, Oladipo has one All-NBA nod and been named to an All-Defensive team, but that’s pretty much it. To suggest a fringe All-Star who has battled injuries and poor shooting is better than a generational scorer is pure insanity.
and it's more than Mitchell will ever have. Herro is the guy you should be comparing Mitchell with
If the take was just “Oladipo is/was a better defender” I’d be with you 100%. But in today’s NBA scoring unfortunately means more than good defense. James Harden ought to prove that. To suggest that an ascending star who is already a top 15 player is better than someone who barely got there at his peak is ludicrous. Heat fans, what are you doing?

OG Anunoby and DeAndre Ayton are two young players who match that description and could be available. Even if the Jazz don’t find that player, they could still add two promising young prospects to the team each year. That would allow the team to slowly get better and, once they have a player worth building around, get the Jazz back to the playoffs quicker.

The Knicks’ asset pool — up to eight first-round draft picks and young players such as Quentin Grimes, Immanuel Quickley and Obi Toppin — gives them a clear opportunity to acquire Mitchell, but sources say talks so far have moved slowly and the sides are far from an agreement. Mitchell has spent the summer in his usual offseason routine: high-intensity workouts and time with his family and friends. 7. Will Jarred Vanderbilt be in Utah for 2022/23?
at 23 you'd think but Danny will trade anyone if the price is right
All in all, Utah’s trade of Rudy Gobert was all about the picks they got in return, and while the players may be valuable, there’s no star among them, so whether Vanderbilt is moved for a late first/second round pick or if he plays for this squad, he’s not going to be too big of a deal. At this time, it’s more likely than not however that Jarred is flipped for some sort of a pick that Danny Ainge can try to hit on in the future, as this team just isn’t equipped to keep players like Vanderbilt with a low ceiling going forward through this rebuild.
don't actually know. Keesler has Gobert type potential. Bolambo could be special if he fixes his shot
6. Will Walker Kessler be in Utah for 2022/23?
he's most likely but with his potential being an NBA backup Danny will let you have him for an unprotected 1st!
5. Will Patrick Beverley be in Utah for 2022/23?

2. Will Mike Conley be in Utah for 2022/23?
see Beverley. Even if Mitchell isn't traded you'd think Beverley or Conley is gone
1. Will Jordan Clarkson be in Utah for 2022/23?

The ideal NBA forward should be able to step out and hit some shots. He cannot do that. If he spends the summer working on fixing his weaknesses, he could be a viable starter at some point in his career. That being said, he is entering year five, so he is running out of time to prove that he can become the guy he was supposed to be.
41st pick of the draft. He's already better than the guy he was supposed to be :facepalm
This is a do-or-die year for Vanderbilt. He is under contract for two more seasons, but if he doesn’t break out this year then the Jazz should be inclined to let him ride the bench in his last season and play rookies ahead of him in the rotation, which would shatter his confidence and ruin his chances of having an NBA career. 2023 is the season he has to put the pieces together or find a new league to play in.
he's 23 and was starting on a pretty good team last year. Great rebounder that defends with energy. He's not going anywhere! :lol
Thanks to the time spent in the G-League and a foot injury, potential star Udoka Azubuike (https://www.nba.com/player/1628962/udoka-azubuike) has not really had a chance to shine yet. In college, he showed he could be a double-double machine with elite defense on one of the best teams in the country, so even though he has played two poor seasons, fans shouldn’t despair yet.
Actually he has. Was starting and doing a solid job just a few months ago
If he can put it all together, fans should be elated. He has shown he can perform on the big stage, and if it translates to the NBA then the Jazz are certainly looking at a better-than-average starting center. That may not sound exciting, but the average starting center in the league is who? Jakob Poeltl? Jusuf Nurkic? Azubuike can be better than them, he just hasn’t been given a chance.
defensively could be better. Doubt he'll ever be as good as Nurkic offensively

NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks, Jazz remain far apart on Donovan Mitchell deal
2 or 3 picks isn't far is it?
The Jazz reportedly has a high asking price for Mitchell and, at least until now, the Knicks have not met that price. Or perhaps Utah is waiting it out to see what else they could get in the package.
I think they're just going over what teams want to offer and what they want and figuring out the best way to go. Two. three, four team trade?
Either way, it seems like Utah isn’t terribly rushing to finalize a Mitchell trade. They have no reason to be. Mitchell still has three years remaining on his current deal and training camp doesn’t even open for another month.
Got a couple months

Regarding Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, the New York Knicks are widely considered the favorite to acquire him in a trade in part because they have up to eight first-round picks available to include in a deal. (https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article263852142.html) The Heat doesn’t own that type of draft capital, which the Jazz reportedly covet. This all means that the Heat’s roster for next season will very likely look a lot like last season’s that finished just one win short of reaching the NBA Finals.

https://kslsports.com/489991/what-could-other-suitors-offer-in-mitchell-trade/
Duncan Robinson has negative trade value after being benched in the playoffs despite having three years and nearly $60 million left on his contract. Miami is likely going to have to cough up a future first-round in any trade to push Robinson off their books, and that could increase the asking price the Jazz could demand for Mitchell.
don't want him!
In this deal, the Wizards would have to give up former University of Utah star Kyle Kuzma largely to make salaries work because the Jazz won’t have any interest in a deal centered around Kristaps Porzingis.
doubt they want Kuzma either but he could probably be flipped unlike Robinson
Unfortunately for the Jazz, neither player fits their current rebuilding timeline, and both would be acquired with the simple goal of being traded again during the season for additional future assets.
You need some young vets. 23 and 25 fit for now
The Charlotte Hornets are perhaps a surprise team to show up on this list but have been looking to make a splash on the trade market to push themselves into the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference.
No surprise. One of the worst run teams in the league. Ainge 's mouth is watering!
LaMelo Ball is already a star and pairing him with a true go-to scorer could unlock his full potential even earlier in his career.
Ball's size makes sense with Mitchell
looks like most of these teams can get in the mix if they give up unprotected picks. Unprotected from Miami and Toronto probably won't be good picks though. NY, Charlotte and Kings are your best bet or a rape

It seems that it’s just a matter of time before a deal gets done here, as even five draft picks blows any other offer out of the water, and if the Knicks become willing to include rising star Quentin Grimes in a package, Utah will undoubtedly move on a deal to send Donovan Mitchell home.

Hey, Chris: Is there any traction on a Caris LeVert extension? — Anthony, Stow Hey, Anthony: Not really. Much of Cleveland’s offseason has been intertwined. After finalizing Darius Garland’s massive contract extension, bringing in a pair of point guards (Ricky Rubio and Raul Neto) and adding a burly backup center (Robin Lopez), the Cavs have prioritized the Collin Sexton negotiations. Those remain at a standstill (https://www.cleveland.com/cavs/2022/07/how-can-cleveland-cavaliers-clear-up-logjam-at-guard-what-about-a-caris-levert-extension-hey-chris.html).

The next steps flow from what happens with Sexton. That includes any LeVert extension discussions. (https://www.cleveland.com/cavs/2022/07/how-can-cleveland-cavaliers-clear-up-logjam-at-guard-what-about-a-caris-levert-extension-hey-chris.html) The two play the same position. They have a similar skillset. LeVert was acquired at the deadline as a short-term injury replacement, providing a little bit of playmaking in Rubio’s absence and bringing that aggressive, attack-the-rim scoring the team missed because of Sexton’s season-ending meniscus tear. Still, because of LeVert’s age, contract situation, there were also thoughts about him being a long-term play if he looked like a quality fit alongside Cleveland’s budding core. The Cavs didn’t really get a chance at a full-fledged evaluation.

Acquiring Westbrook Makes Some Sense For Rebuilding Jazz (https://saltcityhoops.com/acquiring-westbrook-makes-some-sense-for-rebuilding-jazz/)
sure but how many unprotected 1sts?
If the Jazz trade for Westbrook, they could immediately waive him or negotiate a buyout. This has happened before. Utah once traded for another former MVP in Derrick Rose, who never wore a Jazz jersey.
that was the trade deadline. Not sure it matters with Westbrook? Probably can't trade him at the deadline so they'd probably get rid of him immediately. He sure wouldn't be playing for them!
The Jazz currently have only one free roster spot available. The Jazz can carry up to 20 players in the offseason, but they’ll need to trim that number to 15 before the season starts. Most Mitchell trade frameworks involve the Jazz bringing back 3-4 players. Simply put, they need to make some moves to reduce the number of under-contract Jazzmen, especially if they are planning any 3-for-1 or even 4-for-1 acquisitions.
they can carry 20. The size of the roster isn't an issue at the moment and I doubt it will be for a few seasons. Everyone is expendable at the moment
The tricky thing is that the Jazz have a lot of them: Conley, Bogdanovic, Jordan Clarkson, Patrick Beverley, and Rudy Gay are all in their 30s. Even Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt could be moved. It’s no easy task to move 5-7 players, especially after many teams have already completed their free agency moves.
don't think many teams if any have completed their moves. All waiting on Durant and Mitchell. Other than Gay I can't see a problem getting rid of anyone(maybe someone they get in a new deal like Westbrook?)
The Jazz can probably trade two or three veterans separately before the season starts. Bogey, Clarkson, and Beverley in particular could be easy to move. Conley and Gay may have smaller markets. A Westbrook deal would allow the Jazz to trade 3-4 of those vets in one move. If you want a detailed breakdown at what that trade could entail, check out Eric Walden’s piece (https://www.sltrib.com/sports/jazz/2022/07/28/what-would-russell-westbrook/) at the Salt Lake Tribune.
Conley should still have a market especially if Clarkson does
The Jazz have multiple Minnesota picks from the Rudy Gobert trade. The lower the Wolves are in the standings, the better value Utah gets in their draft picks. While it’s a small thing, if the Lakers are better than the Timberwolves, it helps the Jazz. But for Jazz fans that find helping the Lakers unpalatable, I understand if this particular argument feels feeble.
Lakers and Jazz will suck. Minny won't
The good news is Utah has a leverage advantage. While it would help the Jazz to trade multiple veterans in a single deal, they can afford to be patient. Starting the season with Conley or Clarkson isn’t a terrible scenario. And the Lakers happen to have James, who is likely fine mortgaging the franchise’s future in exchange for immediate improvement.
it is actually. The kids need to play the right way not the Clarkson way. Conley obviously a good vet to have around but not if he's taking Butler's minutes

https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/28/utah-jazz-hornets-offer-mitchell/
The Hornets would have to give up quite the package to get him. Between Kai Jones and James Bouknight, the Hornets have a few enticing young pieces the Jazz may want. Since Clarkson, Beasley, and Jared Butler all play shooting guard and the Jazz are without a center of the future, I would rather take Jones.
Clarkson and Beasley won't be around past the trade deadline and Butler is more of a 1
If the options are this deal with the Hornets or nothing, I honestly would like them to make this trade. Jones could be the answer to current roster issues (https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/05/utah-jazz-first-depth-chart-offseason/), and the haul of picks is less than ideal but still substantial.
only 25 mill apart on contracts!

There’s been some conflicting reports on the Utah Jazz and RJ Barrett amid the Knicks’ pursuit of Donovan Mitchell. While some reports state that the Jazz have had no in interest in Barrett, I don’t believe that is the case. Earlier this month – before reports emerged that Utah was willing to listen on Mitchell trade offers – the Jazz asked the Knicks about a package that included Mitchell Robinson, Barrett, other players, and at least three first-round picks. (https://www.sny.tv/articles/knicks-shouldnt-rj-barrett-donovan-mitchell-trade-jazz-interest) Around that time, members of the Jazz were also making educated guesses/projections on what an extension for Barrett may look like, per sources.
– via SportsNet New York (https://www.sny.tv/articles/knicks-shouldnt-rj-barrett-donovan-mitchell-trade-jazz-interest)
Around the same time, some with the Jazz ranked Barrett among the best potential players they could receive in a trade from New York. (https://www.sny.tv/articles/knicks-shouldnt-rj-barrett-donovan-mitchell-trade-jazz-interest) So, as of earlier this month, the Jazz certainly had interest in Barrett as part of a trade return from the Knicks.

However, that doesn’t tell Alexander-Walker’s full story. I strongly believe that the Pelicans misused him as a player. For one, Alexander-Walker had an astonishingly high usage rate of nearly 25%. That is Jordan Clarkson levels of usage for a player that doesn’t have the scoring or facilitating capability to justify that role. According to NBA.com (http://NBA.com), Alexander-Walker used nearly 28% of his possessions as a pick & roll ball handler, but ranked in the 39th percentile in that role. He only scored 0.80 points per possession and nearly a fifth of his possessions in the pick & roll ended in a turnover. To make matters worse, according to BBall-Index.com (http://BBall-Index.com), as an isolation scorer, Alexander-Walker came in at 3rd percentile (yes, you read that right) and his O-LEBRON was a -0.73. Simply put, Alexander-Walker had no business playing with the ball in his hands that much.
to be fair Clarkson shot just as badly as him and shouldn't have the ball so much either
So, if he can’t score the ball, what does Alexander-Walker do well? At the moment, not much. But, he has the potential to become a fantastic defensive player. As a matter of fact, in two out of his three NBA seasons, BBall Index has Alexander-Walker’s defensive role listed as a “wing stopper,” something we all know the Jazz have desperately needed. At 6’5” with a wingspan just under 6’10”, Alexander-Walker has the capability to defend multiple positions and clog up passing lanes. And so far, he’s shown promise on that end.
6'10 is Mitchell length so at guard he's pretty long not so much at the 3
So, what does all of this mean for his role in Utah next year? Well, he's reaching a make it or break it moment in his career. If the Jazz clear up the logjam they currently have at the guard positions, Alexander-Walker will likely have ample opportunities to show some kind of growth. It wouldn’t surprise me if Alexander-Walker plays 20 minutes a night, but in a less ball-dominant role. As a slasher, tertiary ball handler, and defensive stopper, I think Alexander-Walker could carve a role out in Utah. But that will hinge upon his shooting improving next season. Last season, he shot about 35% from the corner three, but only 29.4% from above the break. That will have to improve if he wants to extend his career.
he'll likely be starting

The 2020-21 NBA MVP runner-up Joel Embiid might have joined the French national team for the 2022 EuroBasket if not for an injury, according to the team’s general manager Boris Diaw. (https://basketnews.com/news-175882-joel-embiid-was-interested-in-playing-for-france-this-summer.html) Diaw confirmed to the L’Equipe that the Philadelphia 76ers superstar is on his way to being registered as a French national team player after all the documentation is dealt with.

“His [Joel Embiid’s] request for naturalization has been accepted,” said Diaw. “We know that he’s still waiting for the French passport. When he obtains it, then he can start the process and apply for a FIBA license for the national team,” continued Diaw. “He would’ve liked to play this summer if he hadn’t been injured. But he underwent hand surgery and didn’t return to basketball,” Diaw revealed. But, Mitchell and Durant are high-level, team-changing players and movement in the NBA this summer has been quiet as the rest of the league waits to find out where these top names are going to end up. Until those moves are made, the league is in a bit of a holding pattern.

Shams also mentioned that Ainge and the Jazz have reached out to other teams, including the Wizards and Hornets, gauging their interest. This pretty much follows the same pattern Ainge has been running during these negotiations. He knows nobody with interest in Mitchell can beat the pick package the Knicks can offer, so he’s leaking all kinds of crap about the “competitive” offers coming from other teams. We all know Mitchell ain’t going to DC for Kyle Kuzma and two firsts.
it's no coincidence that two of the worst run franchises besides the Knicks are mentioned here. The number of picks the Knicks can offer doesn't matter if he can get more unprotected picks from someone else

what if Brunson is better than Mitchell?
Even if you believe that we must get Donovan Mitchell at all costs — and I do not — I think we all should be able to agree that we don’t need him in July. Can the other Mitchell contenders, like Miami or Charlotte, magically pull together a package to beat the Knicks’ best offer? Hell no. If they could, they would have done so by now. Just relax, please. Go swimming. Drink a mojito. This isn’t getting resolved any time soon.
again you have no idea. We've heard the Knicks are willing to go with 4 or 5 1sts but we've mostly heard they don't want to get rid of any of their young players. Charlotte and the Kings are both desperate, both have some young players and might give up more unprotected picks?

https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/30/utah-jazz-reacting-two-bleacher-report-mock-trades/
Although neither trade feels like a flat out win for the Jazz, this one feels a little more unfair, as the Lakers are getting two veteran starters that can help this team immediately, so like other Lakers mock trades over the past few weeks, they would likely have to add a young player into the mix, or add another first-round draft pick. Either way, this would would add to Utah’s haul of picks, and it would also give them cap room to be as flexible as possible going forward as they look to build a winner and capture their first NBA Championship in franchise history.
as long as Westbrook doesn't play for them it's a win. Need more draft capital for helping the Lakers though

That being said, a disappointing lottery pick in Avdija and an unproven rookie in Davis is not enough to move a player of Mitchell’s caliber. On top of that, the money simply does not add up since Mitchell is making well over $30 million a year and the two trade chips combine for a yearly salary of under $10 million. The Wizards would have to throw in Kristaps Porzingis (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/porzikr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) as well, which they may be reluctant to do.

Well, let’s start with this: the overwhelming feeling among league insiders is that Mitchell is likely to sign outside of Utah at the first available opportunity in 2025 (https://www.sltrib.com/sports/jazz/2022/08/02/wait-why-would-utah-jazz-try/). Mitchell considers New York home. Mitchell has spent the majority of this offseason in New York this year. His skills trainer, Chris Brickley, operates out of a gym in the city. It makes sense that he’d be interested in living there full time.
– via Salt Lake Tribune (https://www.sltrib.com/sports/jazz/2022/08/02/wait-why-would-utah-jazz-try/)
There are other places he’s reportedly interested in — Miami being a candidate as well. There’s a sense that many in Mitchell’s team would prefer he play in a larger market than Utah. (https://www.sltrib.com/sports/jazz/2022/08/02/wait-why-would-utah-jazz-try/) Such a market would likely earn him a bigger profile, and perhaps more money, from sponsors.

https://kslsports.com/490288/jazz-roster-needs-serious-work-regardless-of-mitchell-trade/
First, as currently constituted the Jazz are caught in the no man’s land that is the middle class of the NBA. Between the veteran experience of Mike Conley, Parick Beverley, Jordan Clarkson, Malik Beasley, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Jarred Vanderbilt, the Jazz simply have too much talent to lose the number of games required to earn one of the top picks in next year’s NBA Draft.
lottery
If we were to add the three-time All-Star to the previous list, they’re good enough to earn 40+ wins, and finish well within the Western Conference Playoff picture, but not high enough to compete for anything truly meaningful.
barely made the playoffs last year with Gobert missing time. How will they make the playoffs without him?
Rookie Walker Kessler will get an ample share of the minutes, as will third-year center Udoka Azubuike, but neither of the Jazz two centers has proven they can play significant minutes in the NBA.
one showed he can play in the league if his health cooperates
Rookie Simone Fontecchio and second-year forward Leandro Bolmaro will also see the floor, but what they offer and how much they can play remains to be determined.
hard to predict if Bolmaro will play. Let's set the roster and go into camp
Another rumored deal would send Mitchell to the Toronto Raptors (https://www.sportingnews.com/ca/nba/news/raptors-donovan-mitchell-trade-jazz/xk8ixruim3r1o6nyj4bfg47h) for OG Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr. While there are fewer players in this trade, the Jazz would again be too competitive to tank, and would add yet another veteran body to the backcourt.
they are tanking. No Gobert is tank
The Jazz could make more moves like the Royce O’Neale trade that returned only a future draft pick, deals they’ve certainly explored for the veterans remaining on the roster. And, they could sign other under-the-radar players like Fontecchio whose NBA timeline matches the team’s upcoming rebuild.
26 is a different timeline than 19

In the above clip, Tony Jones wonders if Utah do indeed keep Donovan Mitchell, that the team could target 23-year old Collin Sexton, who has the potential to be an All-Star at the point guard spot. The Cavaliers recently offered Sexton a contract in the $13 million per year range, as he is coming off an injury that has seen him miss a lot of time on the court, but he turned that down, and one year away from being a UFA, it makes sense that Cleveland will start taking offers on him.
He makes sense if they get rid of Mitchell. Makes little sense otherwise

Fred Katz on potential Knicks’ tampering: Everyone assumes that the NBA’s go-to penalty for this is now just loss of a second-round pick, because that’s what happened in the Lonzo Ball sing-and-trade. And that’s what happened in the Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade. And they just go ‘second-round pick’. And I know for sure that is not their blanket policy. That’s just what they decided in those moments and if they find evidence of tampering that they believe to be particularly egregious, they are down to go with a harsher penalty. But they have to find the evidence. It can’t just be like, ‘This is what we believed happened’. It has to be like evidence you can present in a courtroom and actually prove your point. … I think it could be a first-round pick… but I wasn’t explicitly told it could be a first (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tampering-trades-lebrons-future/id1358187061?i=1000574671092).

https://kslsports.com/490339/should-jazz-retire-number-27-for-rudy-gobert/
The Jazz’s nine retired numbers between 00-99 are more than 17 other teams in the NBA, a significant lot considering only they are the 13th youngest team in the league.
should have 4. Just the HOFers. Rudy would be 5. The fact that anyone thinks this is even a question is a joke. He should be a statue but won't now
In 1993, the Jazz retired number 35 for Darrell Griffth despite his relatively short career. Griffith appeared in 765 games for the Jazz, only 412 of which he started.
His career was long enough. His career certainly started out like he'd be in the rafters putting up all star numbers and helping the Jazz improve greatly. Layden never forgave him for sitting out despite Hansen sucking hard. Came off the bench after his injury. Loved Griff but shouldn't be up there. Mitchell shouldn't be either but obviously will
Jeff Hornacek played in even fewer games for the Jazz, appearing in just 477 games over a six-and-a-half-year period in the 90s. Hornacek averaged 14.4 points and 4.0 assists during his tenure with the Jazz, and helped the team earn two Western Conference titles, but never made an All-Star game in Utah nor was he named to any All-NBA teams.
loved him but the standards have to be higher
Mark Eaton has the best resume among non-Hall of Fame Jazzmen to have their number retired. The big man won two Defensive Player of the Year awards, made five All-Defensive teams, led the league in blocks in four different seasons, and earned an All-Star nod in 1989.
best resume and the biggest joke!
Barring a serious fallout between Gobert and the team that drafted him, the number 27 should unquestionably hang in the Vivint Arena rafters upon his retirement.
let's hope this front office is a bit more adult than ones in the past that gave Dantley's number away to the guy they traded him for! Why isn't Deron up there now that Sloan, the Millers, O'Conner(still an advisor?) etc. are gone?
Perhaps the only question remaining is whether he’ll play well enough in Minnesota to have his number retired by two franchises.
there's a chance even if he is there only a short time. Right now he's the best player on the best Wolves team ever
We will miss you Statue

All signs are pointing to a trade, and it feels like it’s just a matter of time at this point. The media, the GMs, and the players are all on vacation right now but once they get back, that trade is only a matter of semantics.
I know the usually take a vacation this time of year but most of the roster work is usually done by now. This year hardly anything has happened. Doesn't seem like a time to take a vacation

https://thejnotes.com/2022/08/03/utah-jazz-fans-build-time-team/
My personal Jazz roster would be Malone, Maravich, Okur, Bogdanovic, and Clarkson. Malone is a top player ever, and I believe his game would translate well as a modern power forward. Okur and Bogdanovic would space the floor and add some shooting, and Pistol Pete is a do-all offensive player who can run the offense or pull up from deep, even if he never really played with an NBA three-point line. Finally, Jordan Clarkson is a steal at $1. If he’s cold, the offense can play around him, and if he’s hot, we all know he immediately becomes the offense.
You got 1 or 2 right I guess. Clarkson would be on my least favorite Jazz players ever list. Okur would get killed in space and isn't a rim protector or great rebounder or passer. Did 1 thing well. He's a role player at best on this team. Bojan pretty much the same as Okur from the 3. Maybe a role off the bench at best. I'd tank if this is best $15 gets ya
He’s right. The $1 offense in Ingles and Clarkson is hard to pass up, and could you imagine if Mehmet Okur was inserted into the Malone/Stockton lineup? Micheal Jordan and company wouldn’t stand a chance.
I'd pass on Clarkson for free
Xiao Yao You

I'll take Stockton, Gobert, Millsap, Harpring and Ingles.
No other $1 players I'd want so got to go with the two 2's. I'd consider Hayward or Horny if there was another 1$ I liked. I think that team is superior to any in that article. #1 and 3 players in my Jazz history running pick and roll and pick and pop because Stockton would have to step up offensively somehow. Not really in his nature but was capable. Millsap was thier best player post Deron before Rudy. Might want to put the ball in Ingles hands so Stockton could play some off the ball in a scoring role. Defense. Shooting. Passing. Intangibles.
Sad thing is Millsap and Gobert should have be leading the Jazz together for a few years along with Hayward, McCollum... :facepalm

https://thejnotes.com/2022/08/04/utah-jazz-not-need-trade-mitchell-rebuild/
Murray and Mitchell are the same age, and while Murray is undoubtedly the better defender, no one in their right mind would claim that he’s a better player. Mitchell is one of the best scorers in the league, a constant threat to lead the league in points, and is a three-time All-Star. The Jazz could trade him for some extra draft capital, or they could sit back during the 2022-23 NBA season and come back with a vengeance, still being led by Mitchell.
Guess I'm not in my right mind for preferring the two way stat stuffer over the one way inefficient gunner
Without Gobert, the Jazz do not really have a starting center. Hassan Whiteside is still a free agent, Walker Kessler and Kofi Cockburn are rookies, and Udoka Azubuike isn’t exactly a starting quality guy. On top of that, Mike Conley and Patrick Beverly, at this point in their careers, will not lead the team to a title. The Jazz have talent, to be sure. Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Jared Butler, Leandro Bolmaro, Johnny Juzang, and Neckeil Alexander-Walker are all interesting, and Mitchell, Clarkson, Bogdanovic, and the other vets are all reliable, if not great, pieces to have.
they have nothing without Rudy. Back to 2013
Let’s pretend that with their three picks next season and Walker Kessler, the Jazz manage to find two solid players out of those four. That’s not unreasonable, and it would give Mitchell two more solid players to pair with Clarkson, who also fits the timeline. Jarred Vanderbilt, Butler, and Bolmaro are all young, so the odds of Utah having a seriously competitive lineup by 2025 is not a stretch, and Mitchell will only be 28, just starting to peak.
besides the fact that he sucks Clarkson is on a different timeline. Makes no sense. Mitchell does but I think Ainge decided he can't build around him. Ayton/Mitchell on max deals doesn't get me excited sorry! I kind of wanted them to go into the seasons with vets around him just to give him a shot at it until the trade deadline but it makes sense to do it now if you can I think
The Jazz could simply trade Mitchell and start over from scratch, but they don’t need to. There is still a blueprint for long-term success with Mitchell at the helm. Aside from Jayson Tatum and maybe Bam Adebayo, Mitchell is the best player from the 2017 draft class. Neither the Heat or the Celtics are even considering moving on from those young stars, even with Kevin Durant on the line, so the Jazz shouldn’t be in a rush to move on from their best player, who hasn’t even hit his peak yet.
no maybe on Bam. I'd probably rank him lower than 3rd if I looked at the draft

While it seems Miami has no choice but to run it back with their current roster, as they don’t have the cap space to add another player assuming veteran Udonis Haslem returns, an NBA executive told Heavy Sports’ NBA insider Sean Deveney that the Heat will have a “Plan B” in place. “I think a guy they will keep an eye on is Gordon Hayward,” the exec said of the Charlotte Hornets’ 6-foot-7 All-Star forward. (https://heavy.com/sports/miami-heat/gordon-hayward-hornets-trade/)

“Charlotte’s in a tough position with the (Miles) Bridges thing, they have (Steve) Clifford coming in, they’re in a position to rest things a little bit around LaMelo Ball. Hayward has two years left,” the exec continued (https://heavy.com/sports/miami-heat/gordon-hayward-hornets-trade/). “If you want to give up [Tyler] Herro before you pay him and you want to move [Duncan] Robinson, you would have to add a pick, but those two guys and Omer [Yurtseven], that might be enough to get Hayward if the Hornets decide to reconfigure. It’s a short-term move for Miami, but they need to make their move now. You can play him at the 3 and go big or go small at the 4. He’s a guy they’ve had interest in before.”

The Lakers had conversations about joining the Jazz and Knicks a few weeks ago in a potential three-team trade, league sources told *********. The proposed three-team trade scenario included Russell Westbrook going to Utah and getting bought out. (https://*********.com/lists/nba-rumors-donovan-mitchell-russell-westbrook-myles-turner-houston-rockets/) Utah would send Donovan Mitchell to the Knicks, a combination of two players, including Patrick Beverley and Jordan Clarkson, Bojan Bogdanovic or Malik Beasley to the Lakers, and the Jazz would receive significant draft pick compensation from the Knicks and Lakers. The Knicks also would’ve had to part with veteran salary filler(s), such as Derrick Rose to help make the salaries work.

According to multiple NBA executives who’ve spoken to the Jazz about trading for Donovan Mitchell, Utah is seeking as many draft picks as possible and isn’t prioritizing win-now players. Utah is looking to land a bigger haul for Mitchell than the Rudy Gobert trade (https://*********.com/lists/nba-rumors-donovan-mitchell-russell-westbrook-myles-turner-houston-rockets/) that netted four first-round picks and 2022 first-rounder Walker Kessler from Minnesota, league sources told *********. When Donovan Mitchell proved himself a star early in his rookie season, things immediately began looking up for Utah. In the five years since that time, the Jazz have the fourth most wins in the NBA. In other words, there are a lot of great games from which to choose. I did my best to narrow it down to the top ten.
He wasn't a star. He was better than Hood even though he didn't go to Duke
9. Donovan Mitchell vs. Jamal Murray duel (8/23/2020 (https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/202008230UTA.html))
come on the bubble doesn't count! :facepalm
Mitchell finished with a blistering 51 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. While that series ended in heartbreak for the Jazz, it showed just how unstoppable Donovan Mitchell could be.
and just how little he cared about playing the other end of the floor with Murray's 50
Joe Ingles was the unlikely hero of this game. He scorched the nets for 27 points and seven three-pointers. Besides Ingles, Utah had five other players score in double-digits. Donovan Mitchell, the rookie sensation, struggled with his shot but took over the point guard role by dishing out 11 assists. Alec Burks and Jae Crowder carried the scoring load from the bench. Dante Exum and Royce O'Neale played lockdown defense on Houston's stars. Down the stretch of the game, the Jazz looked to Donovan Mitchell, and he delivered one of the best highlights in recent memory.

The Utah Jazz (https://thejnotes.com/) are at moment without a real starting center. Rookies Kofi Cockburn and Walker Kessler could maybe prove themselves this season, and Udoka Azubuike is probably going to be a career backup. They could resign Hassan Whiteside, but that former star has been relatively quiet about the inner workings of free agency, so NBA fans have largely forgotten about him.
We really have no idea on Udoka. He was solid starting last year. See if he can stay healthy first
Usually, I enjoy it when a team brings back a former player, especially when that team is the one that gave the player his start. The Jazz took Freedom–then Kanter–third overall in the 2011 NBA Draft. Aside from Klay Thompson, Kawhi Leonard, and Kemba Walker, that draft class was very disappointing. I can’t knock the Jazz for taking Freedom at third, even if it was a little bit of a stretch.
I can. Jonas was the guy to take and O'Conner didn't because he wasn't coming over for another year.
Why even write this? Kanter is one of the last guys they'd ever look to bring back and makes no sense at all

Where's Towns? Who's Gobert? Mitchell isn't 3rd. He might be behind Brunson after this year!
Beal and Mitchell are very similar. Both are high-volume scorers who are shockingly efficient considering they are the offense, but neither of them plays a lick of defense. LaVine has broken out as one of the most clutch players in the league, and Paul George has remained one of the league’s best players for several years. Personal bias excludes Booker, but if you want to add him, that’s your progitave.
Booker is a lot better than Mitchell. Bigger, tries to play D, sets screens...
In my mind, Mitchell is right in the middle of those superstars. The team success elevates him above LaVine and Beal, who has been on middling teams as the first option. Paul George can and has put a team on his back, and it’s clear that Booker needs help. The last two seasons have not been friendly to James Harden, but it feels wrong to exclude a great scorer and the only MVP on the list.
might be better than Lavine who's never excited me much
Donovan Mitchell has the advantage of being the clear best player on a winning team while putting up insane individual numbers. No one else can make that case, but some players are just better than him, one could argue. That may be the only thing keeping him away from the number one spot.
When was this? When Gobert was hurt? :lol

Tony Jones: Jones: I think the front of the bench is taken care of with Alex Jensen, Lamar Skeeter and Bryan Bailey. My sources told me earlier in the week that they just hired Sean Sheldon from San Antonio, who was a video coordinator with Will Hardy in San Antonio. (https://*********.com/lists/jazz-rumors-donovan-mitchell-pat-beverley-bojan-bogdanovic-mike-conley-jordan-clarkson/) I expect a lot of energy from Hardy. Everybody I’ve talked to really thinks he’s got a chance to be a terrific head coach. He’s been well respected and well-liked around the league.

When could we see a potential trade between the Jazz and Knicks for Donovan Mitchell? Tony Jones: Jones: The sense I get right now is it’s probably not going to happen on an imminent level. The two sides aren’t close. To me, I think if it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen closer to training camp or the start of the season. (https://*********.com/lists/jazz-rumors-donovan-mitchell-pat-beverley-bojan-bogdanovic-mike-conley-jordan-clarkson/) If it doesn’t happen then, we’ll see what happens closer to the February trade deadline. It’s one of the reasons why the Jazz haven’t made a lot of moves around their roster. Mitchell is a domino that has to be taken care of one way or the other. If the Jazz trade Mitchell, then it’s going to make sense to go younger. Then, I’d expect more moves on top of that.

Jones: I don’t think the two sides are close. I don’t think they have been close. We’ll see what happens as the urgency of training camp looms. The Jazz want what they want, which is picks out of this deal, and they want young guys on short or rookie contracts. By definition, that means Toppin, Grimes and Quickley. They’re good young players, and the Knicks want to protect those guys. The Knicks don’t necessarily want to put in their young guys. They want to try to unload some undesirable contracts. The Knicks don’t want to unload Derrick Rose. He’s long been a favorite of Tom Thibodeau. I know the Knicks want to hang onto him and Grimes. Those guys are priorities.
Mr. James ****in' Dolan to the white courtesy phone stat!
Jones: I don’t think the Jazz have any appetite for Randle. I’m not sure there’s much of an appetite for Reddish. They’ve set a price for Mitchell, and from their perspective, at this point, it’s you meet the price, and they’ll trade him, or you don’t, and they’re going into training camp with him. They don’t feel like they have to trade Mitchell or are obligated. They don’t feel an urgency to trade him. They think they have multiple roads back to being the team they were a couple of years ago. They already have three first-round picks by the end of next season. If they hold onto all of their veterans, they’ll have $36-40 million in cap room. While some may question what free agent would go to Utah? The cap space isn’t about which free agent would go to Utah. The cap space would be used to maneuver in the trade market. They could potentially pull off a trade similar to the one Portland did for Jerami Grant.
the team from two years ago had someone named Gobert! :facepalm
They look at it as if there are three years left on Mitchell’s contract, so if they’re going to trade him, it’s because somebody meets their price. I don’t see the Jazz coming down on their price.
what price? 7 firsts?
Jones: It’s one of those things where it’s been talked about seemingly forever, and pretty much since he signed his second contract. The fifth-year player option was something that raised a bunch of eyebrows. It’s something the Jazz and the fans have been dealing with for years, frankly. If Mitchell wants out, Utah still doesn’t have to trade him right now. He’s got three years on his deal. Next summer, with two years left, that’s probably a sweet spot, which is when the Jazz can trade him and get 75 cents on the dollar.
if they start the year with him and they suck he needs to be gone by the break or everyone else does anyway.
Scotto: Utah has the most leverage if they move Mitchell now. Can they try to compete with him? Sure. But we saw what the team looked like with him and Rudy Gobert, who was a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate and an All-Star. The trade they made didn’t net players who are going to help them. Gobert was the best player in the trade. From a talent aspect, even though they added depth on paper, they took a step backward in terms of competing now. If I’m Utah, and I see the writing on the wall here, I’m trying to really maximize this. Ainge has done this in Boston before when they drafted Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
We haven't seen either with Hardy. We have seen Mitchell without Gobert and it wasn't pretty
Jones: With or without Donovan Mitchell, some of these veterans are going to be on the roster at the start of the season. They can’t move all these guys. Who are the guys Utah can move tomorrow (theoretically)? I think Utah can move Bogdanovic, Vanderbilt, and Beverley. They can move them rather easily. I don’t know how much of a market there is for Conley, Clarkson, or Beasley.
interesting! I can't imagine why anyone wants Clarkson either. I thought Cleveland or Chicago wanted Conley? Maybe at the trade deadline. Partial guarantee next year. Be disappointing if any of them but Beasley is around

https://thejnotes.com/2022/08/06/grading-utah-jazz-offseason-far/
So far, the Utah Jazz have earned a solid B-I think the Gobert trade and Royce O’Neale trades were home runs. The Jazz got a much larger than expected package for Gobert (https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/09/utah-jazz-debate-series-three-ways-utah-won-the-gobert-trade/), getting five picks and a swap. The Jazz also got a decent cast of role players. Some will and can be flipped for more picks, and others fit the rebuilding timeline the Jazz seem to be heading towards.
They likely lost the Gobert trade so B-?
Letting Eric Paschall (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/pascher01.html#all_transactions) sign with the Timberwolves is puzzling to me. He is 25 years old, which is a bit older than where the Jazz would like their players to be, but he has shown that he can perform, and be productive as a starter or as a bench piece. Plus, his salary was under $2 million, so Utah could have made him a lower deal to keep playing alongside his childhood friend Donovan Mitchell (https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3908809/donovan-mitchell).
He made sense if they traded all their other vets but they haven't and he couldn't wait around for them
That leads us to the final offseason question for the Jazz. What will they do with Mitchell? No one knows if he will stay or go, although there are plenty of suitors. Letting Paschall go seems to indicate that Mitchell is next, but he hasn’t even requested a trade.
O'Neale more of an indicator
I think the Mitchell situation is a win-win. If they don’t trade him now, maybe he’ll be worth more at the deadline. If they do move on from him, he will certainly bring in a haul of picks and young players. The O’Neale and Gobert moves were fantastic, the only reason the Jazz remain at a B- grade so far is because they do not have a starting center and they entered the 2022 NBA Draft with no picks at all, and only came away with undrafted free agents Johnny Juzang and Kofi Cockburn, which was a little disappointing, all in all.
they do have a starting center though like Tony Jones said they will probably get a vet if they go into the season with their vets with Udoka behind him and Kessler with the Stars. They got Kessler and Bolmaro. Both 1sts. Who cares about Juang and Kofi?
When it’s all said and done, the framework for a rebuild is there, which is better than some teams can say. I think the next season will be a little rough around the edges, but with a vision moving forward, fans should be excited.
traded a statue and have a roster that is a shit show. A little early to get excited about the current mess

Contenders (https://thejnotes.com/2022/01/12/utah-jazz-guard-donovan-mitchell-trade/) like the Nets, Lakers, and Heat make the most sense for Mitchell. He is entering his prime and could be the difference between a Conference Finals appearance and a Finals win. Teams who are one big piece away, like the Hornets, Knicks, and Wizards, have also apparently been calling about the star.
1 big piece away? :lol
Apparently, a different deal was almost made.
doesn't sound like any deal has almost been made
The Knicks get their star in Mitchell and unload Fournier and Derrick Rose, which opens up space for Quickley, Grimes, Mitchell, and Brunson. To make the money even, they need to add Rudy Gay, but they could use the frontcourt help anyway.
NY wants Rose
The Knicks will have to pay Westbrook this year, probably work out a buyout with Rose, and overpay Fournier for a few years. The return that makes it all worth it? Seven first-round picks. All the high estimates had the deal maxing out at six picks, so the Jazz get even more than their wildest dreams.
Ainge wants 7. 5 unprotected. He's happy. Replace Rose in the deal and get it done!
Will the Jazz be able to compete for the next two years? Nope, but come 2030 the Jazz should have a small-market dynasty. It’s been done before, and they would be able to build totally through the draft. It’s the right way to do things.
2030!!!

Of the O’Neale acquisition specifically, Pelton wrote, “In terms of the moves the Nets did make, sending the Utah Jazz a first-round pick for Royce O’Neale feels like an overpay given how O’Neale’s defense has declined the past two seasons.
didn't make much sense after Durant asked to bee traded
“Coming off an ACL tear, Ingles should be back somewhere around the All-Star break. Milwaukee will have to hope he can get up to speed on defense quickly enough to take advantage of his playmaking and shooting in the postseason.”

Even as rumors of a Jazz rebuild swirl amid reports of trade talks involving Donovan Mitchell, Jordan Clarkson stays even-keeled. As the rain fell around us and kids yelled in the distance — pleading for Clarkson to stay in Utah and telling him that he is their favorite player — I took a serious tone and asked Clarkson how he was feeling considering everything that could potentially happen. “I’m chillin’,” he said with the wide and honest smile that has endeared him to Jazz fans for the last two years. “My mood is — I’m always good. My vibe is always good. It doesn’t change. This is my ninth year going into the league. I know how the business of basketball works.” (https://www.deseret.com/2022/8/8/23296777/utah-jazz-jordan-clarkson-dealing-with-utah-jazz-uncertainty-will-hardy-donovan-mitchell-rudy-gobert?utm_campaign=nbasarah&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter)

What Clarkson knows for sure is that he is currently on the Jazz roster, he still has many years of basketball ahead of him, and he’s ready for whatever life throws at him. “Am I happy in Utah? Yes. Over the past few weeks, I’ve written or said or thought some variation of the following line countless times: the Knicks’ B-level offer is better than most of the other suitors’ A-level offers. But how true is that? Which of the Non-Knicks Six can come close to the package New York could cobble together? The Jazz want five or six or seven first-round picks, as well as young players. The Knicks own all of their firsts as well as four from other teams: the Wizards’ in 2023, the Detroit Pistons’ in ‘23, the Dallas Mavericks’ in ‘23 and the Milwaukee Bucks’ in ‘25. (https://theathletic.com/3482962/2022/08/08/donovan-mitchell-trade-nba-knicks/) All of those are protected. They can deal up to eight first-rounders, including up to four unprotected ones. They could add at least three first-round swaps. They have attractive up-and-comers, including RJ Barrett (who we should assume would not be part of a hypothetical deal), Quentin Grimes, Immanuel Quickley and Obi Toppin.
– via Fred Katz @ The Athletic (https://theathletic.com/3482962/2022/08/08/donovan-mitchell-trade-nba-knicks/)
Offering, say, five first-rounders, some of them protected, along with one young player wouldn’t come close to meeting the Jazz’s asking price. But at the same time, some teams in the running couldn’t even beat that. (https://theathletic.com/3482962/2022/08/08/donovan-mitchell-trade-nba-knicks/) And thus, we have a stalemate. For now, the Knicks know no one is coming close to them. And the Jazz want more for Mitchell than they received in that gargantuan return for Rudy Gobert.

https://kslsports.com/490554/jazz-own-three-1st-round-picks-in-2023-is-draft-any-good/
The good news for the Jazz is their own draft pick can be nearly as good as they want it to be. Depending on how few games the Jazz want to win, they can suffer enough losses throughout the season to put themselves among the worst teams in the league in hopes of landing a coveted top-five pick in next year’s draft.
they can want to win as many as they feel like but good luck without the guy that's carried the franchise for 8 years
If the 76ers season goes according to plan, the Jazz will likely end up with a pick in the 26-30 range next season, regardless of how either Houston or Brooklyn performs.
that is the great thing about an unprotected pick. Anything can happen and has!
The Wolves had the 18th pick this past June (they traded back to select Jazzman Walker Kessler) and should be expected to have a selection in the 18-25 range next season.
they're arguably better than the Sixers
As it stands, the Jazz are far too talented to finish with one of the five worst records in the NBA, even if they were to try to lose games. Ryan Smith, Danny Ainge, Justin Zanik, and David Fizdale all have work to do to deconstruct the roster beyond trading Donovan Mitchell if the Jazz want to bottom out in the NBA standings.
they were closer to the worst record in the league when Gobert came back to get them in the playoffs Mitchell's rookie year. What talent?
In full transparency, I would be surprised if the Jazz chose to make three first-round picks next season, and would say it’s far more likely they flip this final first-rounder for an additional first in the 2024 draft.
sounds like a late first is a lottery in most years so Danny wants as many picks as he can next draft

https://thejnotes.com/2022/08/08/how-is-a-utah-jazz-star-dealing-with-the-franchise-turmoil/
Over the past few months, the Utah Jazz (https://thejnotes.com/) have traded away both Royce O’Neale and Rudy Gobert, key cogs to the past few seasons for the Jazz, and with all the rumours surrounding the squads other All-Star, Donovan Mitchell, no one truly knows which direction this franchise is heading in going forward. While that certainly effects those involved, how do other Jazz players feel going forward about their roles with the team, and whether they’ll even be on the team in the coming months?
pretty obvious the direction
So what do you guys think? Should the Jazz re-tool and build a winner for fan favourites like Clarkson? Should Utah bite the bullet and move on from Clarkson while he can get them back a significant haul? How should the team proceed in 2022? As always, let us know in the comments below.

https://thejnotes.com/2022/08/09/responsible-utah-jazzs-past-success/
Recently, we ran a survey asking which individual was responsible for the Utah Jazz’s success in the late 1990s. Shockingly, Jerry Sloan was the winner and two-time MVP Karl Malone (https://www.nba.com/stats/player/252/career) came in third, behind John Stockton (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/stockjo01.html).
go watch the '88 playoffs and tell me Sloan was the reason! :facepalm
Now, in my mind, Sloan is one of the greatest coaches, but the result should come from on-court performance. No one in their right mind would say that either Malone or Stockon is a top-ten player ever, but each are certainly in the top five at their respective positions. Stockton was never a better player than Maone, although he had his share of greatness. It’s weird to me that 4.4% of the voters said Stockton was more important than Malone, given that Malone was the best player for the Jazz in their two Finals appearances.
If I'd had to choose one it would have been Stockton without a doubt. To say he was never better is ridiculous
Maybe I’m undervaluing quality coaching. Sloan was Utah basketball for several years (https://thejnotes.com/2020/05/25/jerry-sloan-utah-jazz-savior/), and he managed to keep two stars and a solid cast of role players happy and competitive for multiple decades. Maybe it’s a well-earned title. Is Phil Jackson responsible for winning with the Bulls and Lakers? Is Popovich more of a winner than Duncan? Maybe it all comes down to the bench. Either way, the Utah Jazz can claim three legends.
too bad they just traded away the 3rd legend

That started Utah’s current streak of six straight playoff appearances.
thanks Rudy!

If you were an NBA GM, would you rather have Mitchell or Durant? Again, Durant is the better player, but Mitchell has been nothing short of a class act in Utah. He got along with coach Quin Snyder (https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/34043904/donovan-mitchell-surprised-disappointed-sources-say-quin-snyder-leaves-utah-jazz), put aside his differences with Rudy Gobert, and made the playoffs every season, and is endeared by fans. On top of that, the asking price for Mitchell is six first-round picks. That’s a huge haul, but the price for Durant is three picks and a “young star (https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/nba-rumors-nets-asking-price-kevin-durant-trade-revealed-and-its-huge).” Why would you even trade for Durant if you lose your best player in the process? Who will you pair him with? Durant has never played without a star by his side, so asking him to carry a team in his fragile state might drive him to insanity.
I wouldn't want either

“This is what I’ve been wondering, what the f— are you doing in the offseason?” Tracy McGrady said of Rudy Gobert. “Like, what is your workout? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XGBDpFDDyU&feature=emb_title&ab_channel=fuboSports) I was so mad at Rudy when they were playing against the [Houston] Rockets one year bro and Chris Paul was guarding him in the post. I was mad as s—. He couldn’t do nothing. Bro you’re 7’2″, and a point guard is guarding you. He had no moves.”

Patrick Beverley is not one to whine about getting moved from one team to another. The Utah Jazz guard recently addressed claims from fans about how the Minnesota Timberwolves “did him wrong when in fact that sentiment goes completely against how he views and interprets his offseason fate. Here’s Patrick Beverley going full Jay-Z, referencing the GOAT’s “I’m not a businessman, I’m a business, man” bar in explaining why he is thankful to the Timberwolves franchise (https://clutchpoints.com/jazz-news-patrick-beverley-fires-back-at-claims-timberwolves-did-him-wrong/).

Still, Caleb Canales’ decision to leave the NBA and coach in Mexico is not without risk. (https://globalsportmatters.com/business/2022/08/10/adapt-adjust-kaleb-canales-nba-mexico-coaching/) Broadening his experience on an international stage could help him get back to the league and to the job of his dreams, but his leap of faith could also be ignored. Despite a growing stable of foreign-born superstars and the NBA’s expansion to new markets overseas, the league has been slow to embrace coaches with international experience. European champions like David Blatt and Igor Kokoskov came and went last decade, as did successful foreign-born assistants like Etore Messina. “The coaching side, you always have to be ready to adapt and adjust,” Canales says.

Dennis Lindsey moved into an advisory role for the Jazz in the summer of 2021 shortly before the organization hired Danny Ainge to serve as the CEO of basketball in December.
anyone still listening to his or O'Conner's advice?

Mitchell would enter Sacramento and immediately be the number one scoring option, although Fox would still be the ball handler. Sabonis would be the anchor down low, and Donte DiVincenzo, Trey Lyles, Chimezie Metu, and Kevin Huerter would round out the lineup, scoring from deep and taking some pressure off the two-star guards.
Fox was at 23 last year so Mitchell isn't necessarily 1st option. You should run things through Sabonis not the two gunners though
Plus, if they have Mitchell, they will be competing for several years. Fox, Mitchell, and Sabonis would be the best young big three in the league, so there’s no reason the Kings should hold onto their future. Richaun Holmes (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/holmeri01.html) and Harrison Barnes (https://www.nba.com/player/203084/harrison-barnes) are included for salary matching reasons. Barnes only has one year and $18 million left on his deal, so he could play in Salt Lake for a year or negotiate a buyout. Holmes has three years left, and he’s a productive backup center who’s shown some defensive prowess, averaging 1.3 blocks in three seasons as a starter. He’s 28 but could manage the paint as the Jazz flounder without Mitchell or Gobert (https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/05/utah-jazz-first-depth-chart-offseason/).
They have at least a couple young players Danny would probably want. Don't want a guy with 3 years on his contract that's for sure even if he's probably tradable

Bertans isn’t quite as much of a positive for the future, but with a team option on the third year of his deal, the Jazz would actually be able to save money by unloading Mike Conley’s contract. This trade works out for both teams, as it lets Utah add to their future, while giving Dallas another talented, ball-handling guard, something they severely lack beyond Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie.
no on Bertans
Unless Kevin Durant gets moved before the 2022 season, this would be by far the biggest trade of the off-season, sending superstar Donovan Mitchell to Toronto for three decent players, along with three first-round draft picks. However, given Danny Ainge’s reluctance to budge off the price for the Knicks, it’s highly unlikely that he will settle for just three picks from a team that would immediately become a contender.
we don't know how much Danny has or will budge from 7 firsts but I'd say he wants at least 4 or 5 not 3
Trade 3
looks pretty good. I'd rather keep Beasley and give them Clarkson and or Conley though!

ESPN has the Utah Jazz coming in at 26-56, finishing in 12th place in the Western Conference, still above the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder, placing them right in no mans land – too high to earn a top-three pick, but too low to compete for a genuine playoff spot.
I could see the current team at that number. If Danny can unload the vets before the season it should be more in the teens!

USA Basketball has picked its 12-man roster for the opening second-round window of World Cup qualifying, as the Americans look to move closer to clinching a spot in the field for next year’s event. Jim Boylen will return as coach, (https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/34383749/usa-basketball-sets-12-man-roster-august-world-cup-qualifiers) assisted again by Ty Ellis and Othella Harrington. The roster will include six players — Michael Frazier II, Langston Galloway, David Stockton, DaQuan Jeffries, John Jenkins and Eric Mika — who were with the Americans for the previous qualifying window in July.

Collin Sexton — after receiving the Cavaliers’ qualifying offer, making him a restricted free agent — won’t be around the team until there is a contract resolution, (https://www.cleveland.com/cavs/2022/08/cleveland-cavaliers-holding-player-led-workouts-in-los-angeles-next-week.html) sources say.
