Re: 2011 MLS thread
Anyways team USA is getting some solid young talent.. Agudelo, Chandler, Ream, Lichaj. Pair them up with Donovan, Dempsey, Howard, Holden and Bradley and we'll have a solid 2014 US team.
I'm proud to say that the New York Red Bulls had 2 US starters on the field today. Tim Ream and Juan Agudelo are going to be the backbone for team USA for years to come.. I've been saying this for a long time but Ream is EPL material and isn't simillar to the typical American CB which is the typical brute who goes ll out. He has good feel for the game and he's a great passer from the back. Juan Agudelo is going to be playing in Europe soon..
------Agudelo----Altidore
Donovan--Holden--Bradley--Dempsey
Lichaj---Ream---??Goochi---Chandler
----------Howard
I really don't know if Lichaj can play LB but he's a pretty nice player. Donovan and Dempsey are going to be real old by then and one won't be starting.
Also watch out for Teal Bundbury and Charlie Davies, they might steal Altidore's starting spot soon.

Re: 2011 MLS thread
Why not?
It's great for Sporting Kansas City.. They are getting tons of free and positive press. This helps them expand their name and will help them increase their popularity. It probably will increase TV ratings, ticket sales, merchandising sales, etc. Look how much ESPN is covering the story.
Especially for a team like SKC who's a unknown team about to play in a brand new(gorgeous) stadium it helps them out. Chad Johnson isn't going to make any money and they should definitely play him in a friendly and market the shit out of him.
We all know Chad Oocho sucks at soccer and this is a pure business move.
I guess as long as he takes it seriously but part of me thinks this only reinforces the view by most American sports fans that MLS is a complete joke.

Re: 2011 MLS thread
The fact that soccer is like 5th-6th tier (or even lower if you count auto racing as sports) pro sport in North America makes me believe that MLS will take any kind of publicity in order to survive.
Ochocinco get free trainings to be ready for the next NFL season if there is one while Sporting KC gets media air time to promote their new brand. That's a good trade to me.
the bolded might actually be a major part of why he is doing it.
Now he gets access to all of their facilities and trainers unlike all other players who have to figure it out for themselves.
He does seem sincere in all the interviews though and maybe he just wants to get soccer some more exposure in the US.

He isn't doing it for the training or to stay in shape, he's doing it for the press. Chad is a narsacist(sp?) although a cool one. He did a trial with real madrid in janurary where he met Ronaldo n kaka
plus he has a greater access to training facilities whether it's from the bengals or his own private gym. Chad likes soccer and the attention

he can't use the Bengals training facility right now.
the lockout remember?
and I seriously doubt his private gym can touch a professional teams training facility.

Re: 2011 MLS thread
DeRo traded to NYRB for Tony Tchani and Danleigh Borman.
Great trade for NY.. Getting that #10 player they desperately been looking for. It's going to be exciting watching Henry, Agudelo, DeRo, Marquez and Lindpere.. We have the best attack on paper bar none but we need to get results now.

Re: 2011 MLS thread
Redbulls are the most talented team on paper and its' not even close. They have the best American prospect, 2 CB that could start/play for some European clubs and Henry still hasn't found his form. One thing that worries me is the international duties of these players and keeping fit. Seems like half of their starters play for their national teams.
I thought it is an April Fools' Day joke, but.....
DAMN......
NYRB is a real powerhouse now.

This starting lineup is WINNING, IMO.
That team is stacked for MLS standards.
Lucklily for the rest of you, Ream and Agudelo will be playing in Europe in a year or so.
-
Re: 2011 MLS thread
Agudelo, hell yes. Ream, probably.
So clearly, NYRB now looks a lot like Boston Celtics, Henry, Marquez and DeRo as KG, Pierce and Allen while Agudelo as Rondo.
Thats a pretty good comparison. Although Aguedelo role is more of a scorer than setting players up.
Another comparison would be Greenbay. Well rounded team consisting of veterans (Woodson, Driver) along with young talent (Hawk, Jennings, Rodgers.)
Whack comparison lol.

Re: 2011 MLS thread
Tomorrow will be the first game of Teal Bunbury against a Canadian team, Vancouver Whitecaps, on Canadian soil after he chooses to play for Team USA over his dad's Team Canada. Expect massive boos during the introduction and every single time he touch the ball, or maybe a water bottle or two.
Yea.. He should've choose Canada. Although it's better in the long run for him to play for USA but he'll be the future #9 for Canada while on USA he has competition with many other forward options.
I think he's going to be a real nice player but he should have played for Canada.. He would have been a real fan favorite over there especially if he plays for one of the Canadian teams.
As for Agudelo and Ream leaving I don't see them leaving in 1 years time. The Red Bulls have a real tough decision to make with Agudelo.. Do they try to keep him and market him as a local product sorta like Donovan or do they sell him to the highest bidder? Agudelo is starting to get Marketable now as well.. They say watch Henry and Agudelo as before they will only say Henry and Marquez. I've heard reports that the Red Bulls are going to offer him a DP contract and try to keep him a bit longer but if he has a good Gold Cup and a good MLS season he may be good as gone. I don't want him to be like Altidore and get loaned out to every possible European team out there. Agudelo needs another 1-2 years in the MLS to sure up his skills and be a more complete product. After all he's only scored 1 MLS goal and is only 18.. Look at players like Suarez, Hernandez, Neymar, etc.
Ream is on the 2nd year of a 4 yr contract and won't demand a transfer bid as Agudelo. He's more ready and polished as college really helped him out. I hope he goes to a Dutch team or a decent German team.. He's the 2014 US CB.

Re: 2011 MLS thread
FCD needs to get their shit together.
Thats now twice they have been forced to play a man down for most of the game due to a foolish mistake. The first goal given up was on a terrible challenge that led to a CC PK.
They just can't continue to control games only to have it blow up b/c of horrid mistakes if they want to get back to the MLS Cup.
What is even more maddening is Luna (19) and Castillo (18) got the starts yesterday and they weren't even close to being the problem. It was older vets AGAIN making terrible mistakes.

That was a terrible result for FC Dallas.. Crew are pretty much a terrible team with little scoring threat also incredibly lucky as well. They played NYRB C team and played a 10 man Dallas team for the majority of the game.

Re: 2011 MLS thread
off to see FCD in their MLS Cup rematch vs Colorado tonight.
hopefully they can get their heads out of their butts to earn their first win of the season.
Whitecaps' Hassli got a red card for removing his jersey while celebrating for a PK goal, where there is ANOTHER JERSEY under.

Automatic yellow for removing jersey maybe one of the stupidest rule in soccer. It's like FIFA is trying to become NFL aka No Fun League one day.
agreed.
hate that rule
