Rich Hoffman: One thing to watch from last night’s game: P.J. Tucker only got 20 minutes. Georges Niang, who was in a good rhythm, played the entire fourth. Doc Rivers: “With P.J., when we can get nights like that, we’ll take them.” Sixers will be cautious with Tucker’s minutes at times.
Utah Jazz will be looking to reproduce a better performance of their 2020/2021 NBA season that saw them reach the NBA playoffs quarterfinal. Hence with the club boasting of a new look and quality young players, Utah Jazz NBA 2022 title chances prove to be very high.
With the All-Star game coming to SLC for the first time in three decades, what are the Jazz’s odds of having someone make the team?
not much a chance. You got to win and have someone put up big numbers. Sexton seems most likely but he's not playing enough
Lauri has been the Jazz’s best player so far this season. If the Jazz are able to keep up the success that they have shown in these opening games, Lauri has a shot at his first All-Star selection. He’s definitely playing like one right now.
i think impact stats may tell a different story
Besides Markkanen, the only player that looks to have a realistic shot at an All-Star selection is the legend Jordan Clarkson. Clarkson’s role has definitely shifted this season, and he has fully embraced it and has been really really good. He’s currently averaging a career high in points, minutes, and nearly doubling his career high for assists per game at 5.3. That has been one of the funnest things to watch this season is Clarkson’s ability to distribute, make plays, and pass the ball. The Jazz have found themselves in close games in each of the last three matchups, and JC has been coming up huge for them in the clutch.
for me painful not fun. Clutch dribble off his foot?
He’s also just making plays everywhere. This hustle play to chase down Zion Williamson of all people and block a dunk attempt that turned out to be a massive play (and injured Williamson, prayers up to the hip, getting feeling better homie) was just amazing.
after another one of his turnovers!:facepalm
The All-Star game in SLC will be quite the experience, even if the Jazz don’t have any players make it. Having Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert possibly back in town for the All-Star game would be pretty cool. Looking forward to see what Ryan Smith can do, and if he has any impact on making the All Star Jerseys as bright and glaring as possible.
**** him if he really doesn't want to trade the bum Clarkson. Didn't like Smith the first time I saw him with the over sized crooked baseball hat. Hate the new jerseys and now this. I had hope that he was an upgrade on the Millers but apparently not

After not living up to expectations, Markkanen looks like a much-improved player after a busy summer. The Jazz has done what the Bulls couldn’t and are reaping the benefits.
who's expectations? Based on where he was drafted he's probably close to what you'd expect
The Jazz is ranked fourth in the league in points scored, ranked second in steals per game, and third in steals. They also rank in the top 10 in the league in offensive rating and net rating.

the steals are a new thing. Too bad we never got to see Gobert with a team like this around him

“I’ve heard the same stuff that other people have reported that they are just super reluctant to move Clarkson. They’re really fond of him for whatever reason so I would peg him as the least likely of all these Jazz guys to get traded.”

He's the one that has to go. What possible reason would you keep him if some team is actually stupid enough to want him?
This matches up with what we’ve heard from other local reporters that the Jazz are reluctant to trade Jordan Clarkson and would like to keep him on the team. It makes sense in the context of the current situation with the Jazz. Clarkson is a great guy to have in the locker room, which can be invaluable for a team that will likely see some turmoil this season. He’s also a fun player to watch that creates at least one highlight play every night. Remember this?
one highlite play or many bricks, prayers, turnovers and horrible D? Take your choice :facepalm
The Jazz have come out hot and have been a lot of fun to watch to begin the season, but it’s more than likely that this team will have some extended periods of losing. If they go through any type of cold spell shooting, or if they have some injuries to any of their key players, there will be some extended losing streaks. To have a player like Clarkson when the chips are down can be beneficial to a coach and to a culture. When teams are winning, everyone is all-in on doing what’s best for the team. When the losses start piling up, you start to see guys looking to get their stats for future contracts.
he's the first one looking for his
On top of all that, we’ve seen Clarkson evolve his game as a distributor. Sure, it’s only four games, but Clarkson is averaging a career-high 5.3 assists per game, which is 2 more assists per game than his career average. Could Clarkson play more point guard if a trade happens with Mike Conley? It could happen if the Jazz make some sort of move with the Lakers.
One offer reportedly involved the Utah Jazz and would’ve netted the Lakers sharpshooter Bojan Bogdanovic, veteran forward Rudy Gay and veteran point guard Mike Conley.
It would’ve cost them two future first-round draft picks, but some fans felt it was the best offer available.
Reportedly, the Jazz were on board with that deal, and they were even willing to sweeten the pot for the Lakers.

During the offseason, Westbrook was the subject of trade rumors with teams like the Indiana Pacers and Utah Jazz. However, the Lakers were never able to come to an agreement on a deal. Despite that, there is still time for a deal to be made. “The big trades that people want with the Lakers, Westbrook and his $47 million out with those first-round picks the Lakers have in ’27 and ’29, all the deals the Lakers didn’t want to do in the offseason, that’s all that’s there two weeks into the season,” Wojnarowski said. “Teams don’t really get serious about doing deals and maybe pivoting away from trying to be a playoff team or trying to go toward the lottery in a year where there’s Victor Wembanyama available. They’re not going to do that until 20 or 30 games into the season. So, all the deals the Lakers didn’t think gave them enough value for trading those picks, they’re all still there. Utah, Indiana, who the Lakers talked with a lot in the offseason, I’m told they’ve not heard from the Lakers yet this season. “And so, people are going to have to get used to a team that’s not going to be able to make dramatic change for a while, if really at all this year.”
[h=2]It’s too soon to say the Utah Jazz or the Cleveland Cavaliers have won the Donovan Mitchell trade.[/h]
I'd be shocked if the Jazz don't win this big. Could argue Lauri is better. Sexton certainly looked like he could be better. Good thing Hardy makes guys play D unlike COTM. Still have another lottery pick and 3 unprotected to come
When it comes to early season expectations, the Cavs are looking at an Eastern Conference Finals appearance at least, while the Jazz was expected to tank for Victor Wembanyama. Markkanen’s hot start and 3-1 record have put the Jazz’s ability to land the perceived No.1 Overall Pick in the 2023 NBA Draft in jeopardy.
Cavs have to make the playoffs first. No guarantee in a now tough East
Now, if the Jazz stays the course, doubles down with Markkanen, doesn’t trade the rest of their vets, and makes the playoffs, is that enough? Some NBA pundits believe that being a middle team in the NBA, a bottom-four playoff team, for example, is worse than being a rebuilding team. Especially if you don’t have a game-changing superstar like Wembanyanma.
that's probably where the Cavs are. Jazz will suck. Give them time
The Jazz are living examples of that; they felt they hit their ceiling with Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, and Bojan Bogdanovic leading the way, so they got dealt. Let’s say this new-look Jazz makes the playoffs, then what? Utah isn’t a free-agent destination, and their best bet on rebuilding into an NBA Finals contender is through the draft.
pretty obvious what was needed was a new coach which was obvious after the bubble if not sooner. I'd have dealt Mitchell and Clarkson and let the statue play with an unselfish team that gets after people defensively
Is Markkanen about to become Dirk Nowitzki? Probably not, but he’s good enough to get them more wins. So if they’re not wanting to tank, then sure, keep Markkanen and stay the course. If they do want to tank, then Markkanen is keeping them from that.
he never won elsewhere. Conley is what is holding it together. Hardy had him in with 5 fouls with a quarter to play because no one else can run the offense. Butler was the only other one and he's gone
Last season, losing Darius Garland would have doomed the Cavs to a winless streak to start the season. From the time Ricky Rubio tore his ACL, Garland was the only player on the roster capable of creating for both himself and others at a high level. Any success they achieved was cobbled together by defense and willpower.
Neto was often better than Rubio when they were here. Too bad COTM never liked Neto. Hardy would for sure. Could actually use him
Mitchell is carrying a heavy burden, with the league’s fifth-highest usage rate, and it will be best for the Cavs’ offense when Garland returns and that eases a bit. Yet it’s hard to argue with the results: second in Win Shares, top-15 in Box Plus-Minus, and sixth in points per game. Mitchell has been everything the Cavs needed and more to start the season.
you definitely don't want Mitchell having the ball that much. That was a problem here
They can't win them all. Especially playing their 4th game in 6 days. That said this will not be the year the Jazz win it all. That will be years from now if at all. The Cav's will be a threat to win it all much sooner. Still both teams appear to be likely to come out ahead on this trade.
they aren't winning it all. Small backcourt, perimeter D issues. Mitchell dominating the ball...same things that happened here
