For context, if Markkanen were to reach 213 dunks for the Jazz, he’d have the 24th most-prolific dunking season in league history, tying noted finishers Shaquille O’Neal and Clint Capela.
At this pace, Markkanen looks like he’ll easily become the second-most prolific dunker in Jazz history behind only Rudy Gobert.
Gobert has five seasons that would beat Markkanen’s projected 213 dunks, but Derrick Favors record of 150 dunks in 2017-18, the most by a Jazzman not named Gobert, is in serious danger.
6th best in team history is not a record. Believe Gobert was on pace to break his NBA record when he got COVID
And, his shots rarely come in the flow of the offense as tends to dribble the air in the half-court.
sounds like the owner's favorite bum
The Jazz win will turn 22 in late November and at that age, there’s plenty of room for development. It’s not at all far-fetched to think Horton-Tucker could be a serious role player for a championship contender by the end of his career if he can put his full game together.
unless he shoots better he'll have a tough time sticking. Looks like he could be in better shape to me as well
Jarred Vanderbilt has fouled out in both home games this season. His 26 fouls through five games are tied for the fourth-most by a player to begin the season in NBA history.
must be in some great company there!
The Jazz were second in the NBA in steals per game at 10.6 and finished with 11 against the Rockets.
one of the big differences. Gobert's job could have been a lot easier
Re: 2022-23 regular season. The Tank begins...
Finally got the camp roster and a fresh look to the page as well
https://saltlakecity.gleague.nba.com/roster
Bolden put up 12 pts(52/40/62)/9 rbd/1 stl/1.5 blks) with Stars last year. center maybe could play 4? Back up Potter?
Bass looks good at the 4. 18 pts(49/34/79)/8 rbd/3 off/1 stl/1 blk in Gleague. Back up Cook?
Tyler Cook Did ok at multiple stops in the NBA. 25 pts(68/0/68)/8 rbd/2 ass/2 stl 1 blk in Gleague last year
Stacy Davis is supposed to be a 6'6 center. Played in Poland last year. 18 pts(47/34/80)/6 rbds/2 ass/1 stl. Play the 3 or 4?
Frank Jackson is the local guy that put up 11(40/30/83) with the Pistons last year
Isiah Miller put up 16(50/32/46)/6 rbd/3 ass/1.5 stl in gleague last year. Probably back up Frank at the 1?
Micah Potter 14 pts(44/40/77)/11 rbd/4 off/1 stl/1 blk in gleague. Start at center when Udoka or Kessler aren't down there?
Jeenathan Williams put up big numbers at a small college last year. Wing
Morsell put up pretty good numbers on a better team in college last year. Wing
Elijiah Lufile put up pretty good numbers at a smaller college last year. Says he's a center too at 6'8
Rawle Alkins was ok on the wing last year in the gleague
Armorie Archibald was ok at the Mailman's small school last year
Nino Johnson was a good energy guy for Stars last year.
I'd guess that is the roster along with Ochai Agbaji, Juzang and possibly Bolmaro, Udoka or Kessler after his last couple outings where he struggled.
Potter/Bolden
Cook/Bass
Juzang/Alkins
Ochai/Morsell/Williams
Jackson/Miller
the other guys fighting it out for the final spots on the roster?
Which is why the Jazz and Lakers remain the perfect partners for this tango, and why it’s no surprise reports leaked that Ainge is now willing to accept the Lakers’ offer of their only two remaining first-round picks — in 2027 and 2029 — and Westbrook in a deal that balances their roster and provides a perimeter threat at the point guard spot in Mike Conley.
I think Ainge was always willing for both picks. Lakers haven't seemed to want to give it up. Conley, Clarkson,Olynyk and Gay would almost be half the rotation that is winning in Utah. Assuming the Jazz owner can give up his boy Clarkson
The Lakers, however, can demand more for two reasons: First, LeBron James becomes a free agent after next season, and if he leaves Los Angeles, you can all but assume those first-rounders in 2027 and 2029 will be high lottery picks. Second, the Indiana Pacers are another team who can offer a better package with Myles Turner and Buddy Hield having been focal parts of their respective teams in the past.
Davis should be at the 5 and Lebron at the 4. Conley takes over Westbrook in the starting lineup. Gay backs up Lebron. Olynyk behind Davis and Clarkson comes off the bench as well. Jazz might want to wait for Lonnie Walker to become trade eligible in December though. Only 23 still. Played for Pop. Fit right in
Clarkson is the most likely of this group to stay into the next phase of his career, both because he’s the youngest (30) and because he has reportedly expressed a comfort level in Utah and a desire to mentor this young group. Gay is the least likely, because of his smaller role and a salary that makes him easier to move. The Olynyk-Conley order is debatable; Conley is a likelier candidate to be traded in the near term, but if that doesn’t happen, Mountain Mike has more connection to Utah by now. If the Jazz have a believable path to being good, there’s a non-zero chance he stays and lends his wisdom to the next core, too.
Clarkson the mentor! Gay's contract is through next year. Not sure he's not the hardest to move. They all need to go sooner than later
These two narrowly avoided training camp cuts, and are only ranked above the elder statesmen because the Jazz technically — as of today — have control of their futures via matching rights. The Jazz will lose those rights, though, if they decline the 2023-24 team option on either guy by the October 31 deadline. That’s looking more likely since neither one is in the rotation. If that happens, then these guys automatically drop below at least Clarkson — and maybe all four vets. If the Jazz exercise the option on either one, then they technically would be keeping the future in play in case that player ultimately ascends to the rotation. That’s why I’m keeping them here… for now.
Don't think Udoka was in danger of getting cut unless the doctors don't think he can ever stay healthy
(I’ll repeat my personal preference here: I’d decline Dok’s $3.9M option, but if they have any inkling from seeing Bolmaro in practice that he is a future rotational guy, I’d keep him since his 2023-24 salary is only about $500K above the minimum salary for a veteran anyway.)
the problem is flexibility. He's most likely the next guy cut if they have to cut someone
Fontecchio looked impressive in his first extended court time, but ranks behind the other two for contract reasons. First of all, his current deal lasts half as long as the rookie scale contracts of Kessler and Agbaji. And when he does hit free agency in 2024 (the Jazz will have matching rights if they want them), he can only be signed at that point for up to four years. So while Agbaji and Kessler could have 6-9 years as Jazzmen before they experience free agency, Fontecchio won’t make it past year six with the Jazz unless he signs a minimum of three contracts. That alone was enough to list him last among this trio.
he's older. Once Olynyk and Gay are moved he'll be showcased so they can move him too
Both Sexton and Markkanen were sign-and-trade recipients after being squeezed a bit in the low-leverage throes of restricted free agency. The result is that both are paid reasonably, so at some point they become so valuable as trade assets that the Jazz have to consider their options. Otherwise, both will be around for a few years and will be given opportunities to lead this transitioning squad.
I'd guess Lauri is in the 2nd group to me moved

The pace that he plays with, the fire that he plays with on both ends is definitely representative of how we want our team and our program to be," said Hardy, later adding that he thought Bolmaro had a bright future.

I like him too. Him and Vanderbilt seem like the guys that could be good role players around their future lottery picks
