Martin for Stackhouse?

INSIDEHOOPS.COM RUMORS PAGE: Mavs are making a push to acquire Kenyon Martin, but the Nuggets are said to want Stackhouse to fill their SG needs. This trade would be good for the Nuggets especially as they would get rid of a player who caused them nothing but trouble, and acquire a player that actually fits a team need. I'm not quite sure if this has been talked about anywhere else, but what do y'all think about this potential trade, and if not Stackhouse, who could the Mavs put together to acquire Martin?

It leaves the Mavs very short at guard (they must be sure they can get Mike James), but thats still an undersized backcourt. Martin and Dirk? How do they mesh?

I was thinking the same thing, but if you got a small front court, if they get beat by the offensive player, than atleast theres 2 bigs in the paint to swat their ****. I thnik this might only go down if they do get Mike James. Also if this doesn't go down, am I the only person that thinks Stack should be starting at the off guard for the Mavs, and at the very least be the 3rd option, he should be the second, but he's still a very good player when given the time.

If the Mavs do go through with this trade I think they will regret it. KMart is a system type player. He is not at his best with his back to the basket and has not yet developed a consistent jumper. He needs to be on a team that consistently pushes the ball up the court, like he had it with the Nets or how the Suns play. If the Mavs are going to play that style consistently I think it will work.

What would they do with Dirk? Would he stay at the 4, and bring Martin in off the bench. They have Josh Howard at the 3, so that would only leave the 5 for Dirk, unless they tried Martin at center.

boshraptor4life 07-10-2006 01:36 AM

I was thinking a scenario where Dirk would play the center on defence, because he can, and Martin would play the post of offence, leaving Dirk to be matched up with bigger slower centers having to come out on the perimeter, opening the lane up.

Martin can play the 4, Dirk the 3, and Josh should be fine at the 2.

hate it. dont want it to go down at all. and this is from a guy that cant stand Stack.

See, Josh can defend a 2, and he can play the 2 for stretches, but I wouldn't want him as my full time starting 2. His game is much more suited for the SF position, especially in today's game.

Silent Mav 07-10-2006 01:55 AM

Playing the 2 would take him away from the boards. So I wouldn't want him there for extended periods.

Hopefully playing Martin at center went away with Nellie ball.

Martin can cover most centres in the NBA when motivated. Dirk can school centres with his quickness on offense.

I like it from a Nuggets stand point. More of a pure shooter would probably be preferred, but Stack has proven he can play within a team system and would be a nice addition.

As for the Mavs, theres no reason or room to trade for KMart, especially when already giving up Quis.

yeahwhathesaid 07-10-2006 02:51 AM

they def. need to do that trade. i mean martin had a pretty good season last year and shot close to 50 percent, and I would get rid of stackhoue in a heartbeat. He is too inconsisent and makes bone head plays. I think Dirk could play a lil bit of 5 4 and 3, to accomidate martin. Plus the mavs get tougher inside with martin.

Seeing all these moves and signings from teams in the West actively trying to improve their teams is making me sick.

We courting Mike James. That's it. We traded two players for Shane Battier. That's it.

You snooze, you lose.

Wake up, Carroll. It's not time to retirement yet, guy. You still owe us a year.

billie the tree 07-10-2006 03:55 AM

Martin is completely ineffective without a point guard who can make decent passes, which the Mavs do not have.

He'd get bored without ally ooping all game.
