Grizzlies sign Josh Smith to 5yr/$58M offer sheet

Quote:

The Memphis Grizzlies have sent a contract offer worth $58 million to Atlanta Hawks restricted free agent Josh Smith today, according to multiple NBA sources.

As the only team left with significant room under the salary cap, the Griz have shifted out of a summer holding pattern and targeted the versatile 6-9, 235-pound forward.

Atlanta has seven days to match, per league rules, once Smith receives the offer sheet.

Being restricted that means the Hawks can match any offer, even if it is outside their salary cap right? There's no way the Hawks are going to let Smith walk.

WTF, the Hawks will match that easily. Why not offer more?

Well, that definitly adds some strength to our PF spot. Smith / Hakim / Arthur, pretty solid. Though I don't think Atlanta will let that happen, they've already lost Childress to Eurpoe, they can't really afford to lose Smith.

Something is finally about to happen! Holy ****! It's about time. This needs to come to an end. Now Josh finds out if he will be kept or not.

atlanta is going to match this forsure.

and what a terrible feeling for josh smith... his only two options are the Hawks and the Grizz...

atleast he's getting paid what he's worth... something atlanta didn't want to award him.

Atlanta will probably match...then Smith will have to give the "this is where I wanted to be from the start" speech that all matched free agents have to give.

atlanta will most probably match, but god that would be a fun run-n-gun team to watch. imagine how many crazy breakaway dunks we would see.

Yah, if the Grizz really wanted him, they'd have offered more. This seems like a favor to the agent from the Grizz..

I can't believe we're this stupid.

I said the only way would could get Smith is if we offered $13 Mil Per Year or more.

Doesn't Josh Smith have to agree to it before the Hawks can match it.
