How many years will PS5 last before there's a PS6?

And, I wonder how much better the next Playstation might be than the PS5. A lot or just a little.

I know PS5 is new. Just wondering if this will be THE Playstation for, like, 2-3 years, or more like 5+ years.

Should def be 5 plus years since they are still supporting new games for ps4

With the pressure Nintendo is applying with Switch 2 launching in late spring 2025, Sony feels it in their pockets, and has been doing several things:

1. Sony is pushing PS6 for holiday/late-2025 release, or an early 2026 release. If they wait too much longer, Nintendo may win the console wars for good with Switch 2 gorgeous DLSS 4k/60fps output scaling (when docked) from mere 720p/1080p/40fps internal renders.

2. Sony is also doing a similar acquisition run like Xbox tried to do to prop up gamepass, which has been a massive failure, and shows no signs of the growth they needed to save their gaming division in the eyes of the bigwigs. Microsoft seems consigned now to be a 3rd party dev house, not a console war competitor. Sony is looking to acquire UbiSoft and even Capcom.

The Capcom one really caught me off-guard, since they’re by far my favorite Dev. Even over Nintendo. Nintendo 1st party games can always carry their consoles to profitability, but the huge increase in 3rd party and indie participation for the Switch, looks like it may make the Switch overtake PS2 as the best selling console ever. Will probably pass PS2 at some point shortly AFTER the Switch2’s launch, given that remaining switch stock will be sold at heavy discounts, especially in developing nations.

Pretty sure Sony consistently has been doing 7 year lifespans right? So next-gen logically would be 2027. Maybe it'll get delayed for a year or something because COVID screwed up that generations launch.

Crazy to think it's already been 5 years for the PS5. Already bought two them and sold them both.

It's possible they push it to 2028. The generation really didn't start getting exclusive games ( meaning no cross-gen ports) until 2023, and it still feels like we're just now getting into the swing of things. The weird part is 'global events' causing the consoles to rise in price, typically by this point in a console lifecycle the system MSRP would be slashed $100-200.
