A new state-run immigration detention center nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz” is set to open Tuesday in the Everglades.

President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are expected to visit the new facility, which was constructed within days. The facility has sparked a wave of criticism, with two environmentalists groups suing to halt the project. Planned protests are also expected to occur near the site.

Florida authorities and contractors built the facility in eight days. Alligator Alcatraz, surrounded by the Everglades, will be able to hold up to 3,000 detainees. DeSantis and other state officials have touted the harsh environment as a key feature of the detention center that they hope will also deter undocumented immigrants from coming into the country. More than 400 security personnel will be staffing the facility, which has 28,000-plus square feet of barbed wire.

The first public photos and videos of the inside the facility’s large white tents showed pods of bunk beds separated by chainlink cells. Officialssaid Tuesday morning that detainees would have access to resources like laundry, clergy and legal services.

i've never seen any meat cooked up redder than this to toss at the right wing base.

the way i understand it, and correct me if i'm wrong, AA will be a detention facility intended to hold, process & deport illegal immigrants. alright. now look, if we're talking about gang members, violent criminals, drug dealers, i'd say whatever go do your thing, idgaf. dehumanize these people and intimidate them. set an example going forward for anyone else that wants to come to this country and lead a life of crime. but again, as i understand it, stand-up people with good intentions that came here illegally to work or illegals that have been here for decades that don't have a criminal record are going to be sent here?

what say you? who supports this? is this the kind country we want to make ourselves out to be? you think the world isn't laughing their ass off at this political gimmick?
