01 mariners were a team I was going to mention but didn’t think they qualified. Figured WS win was the cherry on top. But man that team was really good. Unfamiliar with 2022 Dodgers to even debate it.

Doing some more digging. 1939 Yankees might actually be the most complete team ever, even over the '27 Yankees just because they had better defense.

    Batting
    On-base + slugging - #1 in MLB
    Runs - #1 in MLB
Home runs - #1 in MLB

    Pitching
    ERA+ - #1 in MLB
Starting pitchers - 3 top tier starters. 2 of them made the All-Star.
Bullpen - Excellent. 2 top tier relief pitchers and a closing pitcher who led the AL in saves

    Fielding/Defense
The very best. #1 in Fielding percentage and the least errors committed in the entire MLB

Shiiitttt, I might put the '27 Yankees ahead of them because of their sheer dominance in batting, but the '39 team was more "complete", better defense and better pitchers overall while still having an elite offense.

From a metrics standpoint I could see why one would pick 39.

Can anyone explain the phenomenon from roughly 2017-2022 where all these juggernaut teams with 100+ wins and huge run differentials started appearing numerous times every year during that timeframe? Was it something specific to the league at the time, or was it just a fluky coincidence?

Haven't looked it up to bone up on the subject but I believe there were was something going on with the baseballs at that time. Don't remember what exactly but they were juiced somehow. So the uber talented teams were even more stated because home runs were at an all-time high.

I was going to mention the 2018 Red Sox. That team will probably age really well.

Yankees fan here. I remember the Yanks starting 0-3 or 1-4 in '98, something like that. People were thinking it was the end for some reason, and then they went on a tear.

I loved those teams because we didn't have star players, just a solid group of guys that seemed to gel well together. Brosius became a fan favorite. Guy did something like .300/20/100 batting 7th, 8th, and 9th most of the season.

That was also when Shane Spencer looked like he was gonna become something great. Called him up in late August and slugged his way to 10 hrs and 27 RBI in like 27 games. I think he ended up hitting some home runs in the playoffs too.

That was also the season David Wells threw his perfect game. Cone threw his in 1999 and then for some reason after that, he forgot how to pitch, and Knoblauch forgot how to throw. Good times.
