i don't know how many here have seen irving play, but he's the best recruit duke has had in a while. hopefully he doesn't pull a oj mayo and book it after his first season.
I'd be surprised if Irving lasts more than 2 years.
I'd be more suprised if Irving lasted less than 3 years.
Hes a 4 year college player, he doesn't stand out as an athlete/player to declare early and he doesn't have any financial/family reasons to push him to leave early(unexpectedly).
Only about a month or two before making his final pick did he drop Indiana. He had been their #1 goal in recruiting, and from all appearances, he had them in his top 2 along with Duke. Then he narrowed his choices to his top 5, and suddenly Indiana was out of the mix. They had really been pursuing Irving hard, so it was a real shock to coaches and fans.

Why would that be a real shock? It happens all the ****ing time. You win some, you lose most in recruiting.
I understand how you might have been disappointed that he chose Duke over Indiana, but believe it or not "really pursuing a player hard" does not create an obligation for that player to come to your school. Ever. So it should never be a real shock when you lose a recruiting battle, especially when it's to a better basketball school.
Duke has a better basketball program and coach than Indiana. Therefore all the "pursuit" in the world didn't persuade him in this case. It's pretty simple.
I mean seriously, were Indiana's coaching staff and fans thinking like "oh yeah, it is not even possible that Irving will choose another school, we've been pursuing him really hard, it's not like other schools have been doing the exact same thing." Do you think Irving feels bad because you're "shocked", because I can tell you he doesn't and shouldn't, he can choose whatever school he wants to go to.

Seriously man, calm down!
I never said that Irving should do anything but pick the school that best suited him. He should.
And I also never said just because a school pursues a player "really hard" that he should feel obligated to go there. Obviously, that is what all school do.
I was just trying to point out to the other poster who said that Indiana shouldn't have been disappointed because they were not really in the running that for months and months, it was "RUMORED" that they were one of Irving's top choices. He was, for many of the IU fans, the caliber player that could really help bring the program back to the level that they have been used to for years.
So yes, fans were disappointed, and I'm sure the coaches were two, because from all reports, he's as good a person as he is a player, and that's a great combination.
See how I make a point without coming across all pissy like you did!

I wasn't mad at you, I was mad at the idea of fans being "shocked" when things don't go their way, and at the irrationality of sports fandom in general.
But I apologize for overreacting, I actually understand now that they weren't shocked by the fact that they didn't get him, but by the fact that they fell out of the running before he even made his choice. Honestly, I thought Indiana was top 2 with Duke for Irving, so actually I was pretty damn surprised when he suddenly dumped them as a possibility.
Anyways, Indiana is still in the running for 5-star PG Josh Selby apparently, who is even more highly regarded than Irving. If Selby feels like being the resurrecting force for a once proud and storied program, a team that needs a star PG more than any other position, then things could still turn out well for Indiana.

Selby isn't going to Indiana.
Its a race between Syracuce, and the loser of the Brandon Knight sweepstakes(Kentucky or Kansas).
