Default AK as the worlds highest paid 6th man?

From http://deseretnews.com/blogs/1,5322,...ml?bD=20081007

Quote:
Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said he may consider bringing small forward Andrei Kirilenko off the bench.

A couple reasons:
• With veteran Matt Harpring out indefinitely due to offseason ankle surgery and subsequent infection, experience on the Jazz bench has taken hit;
• Sloan sees Kirilenko as someone who can join the flow of play without needing several shots to get into the game, and he considers that quite critical for key reserve-role players.

Quote:
Against the Lakers on Tuesday, reserve swingman C.J. Miles started in the 2004 NBA All-Star’s usual place at small forward.
What do you guys think of AK off the bench?

Me? Im not bothered, Sloan put up a valid reason for it, lack of exp on the bench. Hell he didnt have a terrific game last night, but its only the pre-season, in my eyes this has working potential.
How AK will look at this? ... thats a whole different story.

Exactly. Makes a lot of sense. He can come in at 3 different positions. His minutes haven't been that high anyway. He could get just as many coming off the bench and maybe be involved more like he wants.

Positives:
1. Maintains the offense. AK in the second unit could actually get a larger part of the offense than if he starts.
2. Maintains the ball movement. When Williams sits, AK can help with ball movement
3. 6th men have their minutes closer together than starters who have thier breaks more spread out. This makes 6th men feel more involved because their minutes are bunched closer together.

Negatives:
1. Some players pride themselves on being starters in the NBA.

Notes:
1. AK will still need to play the 2 or 3. Most the backup 4 and 5 minutes are taken by Milsap.

Seems to me that if AK can swallow his pride, he could have a resurgence. Even putting the team ahead of himself can give him a winning attitude.

Williams 36/Price 12
Brewer 30/Korver 18
Miles or Harpring 18/Kirilenko 30
Boozer 24/Milsap 24
Okur 32/Boozer 12/Lyde or Koufos or Collins or Fes 4

Right now, out of the centers, I like Lyde.

Lyde is unlikely to make the team. Jazz don't eat contracts.

I like how you spread the minutes out, really good. You also made a good point in saying AK could help out with ball movement with the rest of the reserve team. However, we have brevin to rely on there.
I also like Lyde btw, has good promise as a player.
Anyone here going to watch some Jazz preseason games?

Yeah, Lyde rocks. I'll be watching on TV whenever possible. If I can I'm going to try to go to the home game against Portland.

he will still see major minutes
it's an interesting idea having your most versatile guy coming off the bench, which when you think of it more and more, it seems to make sense more and more

Yeah, he really did. He was closer for the helpside blocks around the rim. He got 3 that counted in 20 minutes, but he lost a few good blocks (one to a questionable foul on him, and another to a real foul on his teammate) plus he got a few post foul blocks that save potential and ones.

He also looks like he likes to use his speed against opposing 4s more than using size (if he has any) against opposing 3s.

Still up in the air. Wouldn't seem likely once Harpring is back in the rotation.
