The Kings have agreed on a trade to send forward Shelden Williams and point guard Bobby Brown to Minnesota in exchange for fourth-year guard Rashad McCants and veteran big man Calvin Booth, according to two league sources.
On the financial front, the deal - which is done but pending league approval - takes the Kings off the hook for the $736,420 owed to Brown next season (player option) while giving them two players who have expiring contracts in McCants ($2.6 million, restricted free agent this summer) and Booth ($1.1 million).
Kings are looking to shed cap with these small trades.

That, and McCants is better. Williams wasn't being used, so he's really not a factor. They are essentially trading two worthless bigs and the kings are getting a better guard who they might try to keep.

He's like 6'4" so he may play some minutes there during stretches of the game in which the Kings are using a smaller lineup. McCants isn't gonna get what he wants playing in Sacramento, which is to play big minutes. He's still gonna be behind Martin, Garcia and probably also Nocioni in the rotation.
I don't really understand Minnesota's reasons for doing this trade other than acquiring another big man for the rotation, but Williams isn't any good. Seems like they just as easily could have signed some random guy to a 10 day contract
Re: Kings Deal Williams, Brown to Minnesota for McCants, Booth
Minnesota's just trying to patch up the hole left by the Jefferson injury as best they can without selling out their assets. And since they have a surplus of wing guy, using McCants is as good an option as any. Better him than Foye. Miller is probably too valuable. And Gomes, Carney, or Brewer probably wouldn't have gotten it done.

I guess its an alright trade. Shad never played and neither did Booth so why not? Sheldon isn't that great from what I here, and I don't know anything about Bobby Brown.
