Default Offseason Plan 2.0:

Current Roster & Salaries:
CE: Chris Kaman (11.3) | DeAndre Jordan (.85)
PF: Blake Griffin (5.36)
SG: Eric Gordon (3.02)
PG: Baron Davis (13.05)

Free Agents:
Restricted: Bobby Brown, Mardy Collins (2.7 Qualifying Offer)
Unrestricted: Steve Blake, Rasual Butler, Drew Gooden, Craig Smith, Brian Skinner, Travis Outlaw, Steve Novak

Other Assets:
Rights to PF/CE Sofoklis Schortnantis
$3.35 mil TPE via Randolph deal (Expires July 19th)
$1.06 mil TPE via Richardson deal (Expires July 20th)

Lottery & Draft:
According to ESPN's Lottery Simulator, the Clippers remain with the 8th pick in the First Round.
"With the 8th pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, the Clippers select F/C Greg Monroe from the University of Georgetown."
Monroe is a solid prospect up front and will make a great addition to an already deep rotation and makes Kaman more expandable.
"With the 54th pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, the Clippers select G Alexey Shved from Russia."
Shved is a tall point guard (6'6) and is a nice prospect to leave in Russia for a year or two.

Offseason Moves (Trades/FA)
  • Trade the rights to Sofoklis Schortnitis to the Houston Rockets for G/F Shane Battier.
Rockets are reportedly interested in the Greek big man and get him in exchange for Battier, who will fit in perfectly with the Clippers starting line-up due to his defense and not taking touches away from the rest of the players.
  • Clippers sign and trade F Travis Outlaw to the Memphis Grizzlies for the rights to G Eric Bledsoe (#28) and cash considerations. Clippers then flip the rights to Eric Bledsoe to the Utah Jazz for a 2011 1st Round Pick and cash considerations.
It is unlikely that Outlaw remains in a Clippers uniform next season and I believe that the Grizzlies will want him since I think Gay will bail. So Clippers turn Outlaw into a 2011 first round pick and get cash considerations along the way. Works for the Jazz because they need a legit backup PG for Deron after dumping Maynor last season.
  • Clippers sign G/F Rasual Butler to a 2 year extension (4.9 | 5.6).
Butler was a key part of the Clippers this past season and I believe would make a good 1-2 combination with Battier at the SF. His versatility is nice off the bench as well.
  • Clippers sign and trade G Steve Blake (2 years/14 mil with TO on year 3) to the Chicago Bulls for G Kirk Hinrich and a 2011 2nd round pick.
Bulls gain an additional $3 mil or so in cap space along with a better backup option to Rose. Hinrich is a good backup combination guard behind Boom and Gordon, and while he is due 9 and 8 mil over the next two years, it's not a lengthy contract.
  • Clippers sign F Craig Smith to a 2 year/8 mil contract.
Rhino is a bruiser who can get any shot he wants in the paint, and with Monroe being a rookie, getting depth on the bench from someone who has been in the league off the bench will really help out.
  • Clippers sign F Steve Novak to a 1 year/2 million contract.
The designated shooter off the bench, nothing more, nothing less.
  • Clippers sign G/F Quentin Richardson to a 1 year contract valued at 3 million.
Q has been a good defender for the Heat and I believe he, along with 'Sual & Hinrich can make a really nice trio on the wings.
  • Clippers sign C Theo Ratliff & G Anthony Johnson to 1 year deals at the veteran's minimum.
Ratliff is a vet C that can really help Jordan out with his shot blocking and Anthony Johnson is a nice emergency point guard, Definitely better than the recent vet points we have had (Brunson, Overton, Knight & Hart)

Training Camp Invitees/Summer League:
Michael Roll, Art Parakhouski, Omar Samhan, Da'Sean Butler, Manny Harris, Quincy Poindexter, Nic Wise. Shved also plays with the summer league squad.
Roll's a solid shooter, Parakhouski and Samhan are college 20/10 big men. Butler, Harris and Poindexter are solid 4 year wings. Wise is a 4-year point. Gordon runs the point for the Summer League team

Final Roster:
CE: Chris Kaman (11.3) | DeAndre Jordan (.85) | Theo Ratliff (Vet Min)
PF: Blake Griffin (5.36) | Greg Monroe (2.48) | Craig Smith (4.0)
SF: Shane Battier (7.35) | Rasual Butler (4.9) | Steve Novak (2.0)
SG: Eric Gordon (3.02) |Quentin Richardson (3.0)
PG: Baron Davis (13.05) | Kirk Hinrich (9.0) | Anthony Johnson (Vet Min)
Rights To: Alexey Shved (Also have Minnesota's Future 1st and the Jazz 2011 1st, Bulls 2011 2nd)

Like this team better than the one from the first "plan" that I had. Tons of versatility, offensive punch off the bench, but most importantly, some solid defenders in Hinrich, Battier, Ratliff & Q.

I will love to see Shane Battier and Kirk Hinrich on the Clippers. They would add great defense, maturity, and selflessness that the roster needs.
