Matt Barnes suspended one game for actions during Lakers-Mavericks altercation

Matt Barnes of the Los Angeles Lakers has been suspended one game without pay for escalating an on-court altercation and actions following his ejection, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

So they downgrade Terry's foul, even though he started the entire thing by pushing Blake, but suspend Barnes?

Man, this league is pussified. Just let the game be and move on. No one should be suspended. Haywood and Blake should never have been ejected.

Maybe if the Dallas assistant coach would have not tried to put Barnes in an extended bear hug his ass would not have been pushed off.

Barnes deserved to be ejected for pushing Terry, just as Terry deserved it for pushing Blake....but a suspension? Lame.

So wait, Barnes gets suspended for sticking up for his teammate, Bynum got suspended for TWO GAMES for throwing an elbow, but Terry gets...nothing for shoving a defenseless player to the ground as he is running out of bounds?

Mavericks assistant coach Terry Stotts wrapped his arms around Barnes from behind in an attempt to calm him down. Barnes responded by shoving Stotts to the floor, saying after the game that he didn't know who was grabbing him.

"One of their coaches grabbed Matt," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "That's not what you do. You grab your own players. That's kind of the rule of the game."

Mavericks asst. coach shouldnt have held onto Barnes at all.


Im shocked that Terry gets away with absolutely nothing here. Seems a bit ridiculous considering how eager the league is to suspend players left and right.

Just like Phil said, Why in the hell is that assistant coach instigating Barnes by bear hugging him, and not letting go? Barnes first tried to brush the coaches arms off of him, but the coach was relentless trying to wrap up Barnes. Matt was not even looking at who was holding him, he just wanted him off.

Erick Dampier shoved Tony Parker from behind while he was going up for a lay up. It was much worse than last night.

Dampier was only fined 10k.
