Default NHL playoff predictions

All the matchups have been set except for one. Who do you think will win in the first round?

Sabres vs Leafs/Islanders- regardless of who gets 8th, this should be an easy win for the Sabres. Win in 5 against the Leafs, sweep against the Islanders.

Devils vs Lightning- rematch from the 2003 ECSF. With a red hot Brodeur, this should be an easy win for the Devils. Devils in 5.

Thrashers vs Rangers- the Thrashers enter this series with no playoff experience whatsoever. The Rangers enter with a red hot Henrik Lundqvist, a healthy Jaromir Jagr, and a healthy Brendan Shanahan. Rangers in 6.

Senators vs Penguins- the Penguins with Crosby and Malkin have a wicked offense. The Senators enter with experience and will probably win the mental game, though I think the Penguins can make the series interesting. Senators in 7.

Red Wings vs Flames- rematch from the 2004 WCSF. The Red Wings dominated the West as usual. The Flames played horrible towards the end. They stand no chance. Red Wings sweep.

Ducks vs Wild- rematch from the 2003 WCF where the Wild were embarrassed. The only difference I see now is that the Wild will not be embarrassed like they were in 2003. They'll still lose. Ducks in 5.

Canucks vs Stars- this will be a close series, but I think Roberto Luongo's goaltending will win this series for the Canucks. Canucks in 6.

Predators vs Sharks- this will also be a very close series. Both teams are pretty evenly matched, but I think the Sharks power play unit will win this series for them. Sharks in 7.

Default Re: NHL playoff predictions

The Sabres would sweep the Leafs. The Sabres define LOADED.

However.. is DiPietro in any shape or form capable of being in net? If he's not capable, NYI will get swept. If he can play in the pipes, they MIGHT steal a game or two.

The Lightning have a chance against New Jersey. It's going to take CRAZY play by Vinny Lecavlier, Marty St. Louis, and Brad Richards *especially Richards, dude hasn't shown up all year* though. I wouldn't bet on it, but I think TB can play with NJ. Depends on Holmvqist (sp?), though. If your asking me to go to Vegas, New Jersey in 6, but I could just as easily see TB do it. Again, NJ could easily own this series with the Madden - Pandolfo line, but then again, if Vinny / Marty play fantastic as well as adequate goaltending (NJ's offense sucks), it could happen.

The Rangers are on fire right now. The Thrashers just don't strike me as good. I think NYR win in 5.

Senators - Pens should be the best match-up. I like the Senators, but it looks like a coin flip.

For the West, I think Calgary has a chance. Maybe it's just me. They lost their last three but the loss to Edmonton means nothing since Colorado is dead. Again, I wouldn't bet against Detroit, but the West is so damn loaded 1-8 that Calgary winning would not surprise me at all.

Ducks vs Wild is also very intriguing. I think Anaheim is loaded as well, but the Wild have a system that wins in the playoffs.

Canucks vs Stars - Canucks. Roberto Luongo's shining moment is about to begin. Also, Marty Turco is a perenial choker every year anyway. Luongo's brickwallness is too much to overcome. All Vancouver needs is opportounistic scoring.

Sharks vs Preds - I like the Sharks, but again, this is a toss up.
