I always thought this guy was a pretty good coach. Wonder what took him so long to get another job.

Probably 'cuz he's not. Made a name in college... screwed up in Portland.. screwed up BIGGER in G.S.

Sonics sign Durant and Green, and then go out and hire this guy? He's as overrated as Don Nelson.

Dont think he was a good coach and seemed to always lose his players in the NBA...

Maybe lesson learned

Well maybe he learned something over the past 5 years from Popovich. I guess we'll see.

PJ has a career winning percentage of .452 and a playoff percentage of .250. What makes people think that he'll suddenly become a winner now?

I should be used to it by now, but for some reason it always amazes me the sheer number of cynics/contrarians/people who simple get kicks out of being mean spirited there are online.

That said, I'm glad someone gave PJ another shot. His years in SA can only have worked in his, and by extension his team's, advantage. He was never a "bad" coach either. His biggest mistake was ever crossing paths with a young Latrell Sprewell, one of the top 3 most uncoachable players to ever touch hardwood.

Good luck, P.J.

Sam Presti is a very smart man. there were alot of Spurs fans who were hoping that Sam Presti stayed instead of RC.

with that said, he knows what PJ can do. being a top assistant under pop, he has learned how to control the team and not let players get out of hand. i am sad to see him go because he was very good here. congrats PJ. assistants that leave san antonio have good track records, so iam sure PJ will do well in Seattle.

Bull crap. He sucked in Portland before he ever met Sprewell. Are you saying Clyde the Glyde and Terry Porter were uncoachable?

They never made it past the first round of the playoffs, then like 1 or 2 seasons after he leaves, they go to the semi-finals.

Yeah, Mike Brown learned a lot under Poppovich.

NBA: Sonics will hire Carlesimo

Web Posted: 07/03/2007 06:02 PM CDT

Johnny Ludden
Express-News Staff Writer

The Seattle SuperSonics have decided to hire P.J. Carlesimo as their new head coach, an NBA source said Tuesday evening.

Carlesimo has spent the previous five seasons as an assistant on the staff of Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Seattle’s new owner, Clay Bennett -- a former member of the Spurs’ ownership group -- has tried to use the Spurs as a blueprint to remake the Sonics. Last month, Bennett hired Spurs assistant general manager Sam Presti to oversee the Sonics’ front office.
Seattle is expected to announce Carlesimo’s hiring Wednesday afternoon.

In other news, Latrell Sprewell begged CArlesimo to sign him as he desperately need to feed his family, Carlesimo declined and that's when Latrell lost his temper and choked CArlesimo.

hes done a decent job in cleveland. he went to the second round in 06 and he went to the finals this year. not bad for a beginner coach. pop knew all his tricks and how to stop them...that was his downfall.
