I'll go ahead and explain my pick.

Obviously, I was hoping for Derrick Rose to fall to #2. Nothing against Michael Beasley because he is one of the better players in this draft, but Mayo brings star power and will help ease the burden on Wade in the backcourt. He's very athletic and one of the most NBA ready players in the draft.

Mayo and Wade have become friends and would complement each other very well sharing the same backcourt. Beasley will likely not rebound at the clip he did in college so all he's really going to bring is scoring and being undersized, it's questionable how well he'll be able to score in the paint against NBA big men. He has much more upside that what Udonis Haslem currently is, but Haslem is a solid starter and a vet.

Mayo's the man.

PG: Wade/Banks
SG: Mayo/Cook
SF: Marion
PF: Haslem
C: Blount

That's what they would have under contract for next year as of now, with this pick.

Neither Wade or Mayo are point guards, but they'll both handle the ball and the offense will primarily go through Wade.

If that's their pick, I have a feeling they will be leading the league in turnovers.

With OJ Mayo off the board it went from drafting the b.p.a at a position we could stand an upgrade at to addressing a team need. The T'Wolves desperately need a center. The team is loaded at other positions. Drafting Lopez allows Al to move to his natural position.

#1 pick Derrick Rose

Just a pure GAME CHANGER. Beasley would not have given them the inside presence that they need as he takes many shots from the perimeter. The team is already too perimeter oriented as hinrich, gordon, and deng mostly take jumpers rather than driving to the basket. Why not trade Kirk Hinrich? Minutes dropped 5 per game, points dropped 5 per game, assists were a little down, field goal % dropped 3 points to 41%, 3 point % dropped 6 points to 35%. If he's really that valuable, then trade him to a team that needs him more than you. Derrick Rose is the pick here.

With this pick I decided to take the BPA. The Grizzlies have a logjam at the one, but Mike Miller will likely be moved and Bayless can play the two. Most likely if this pick was made some point guards would be traded.

Russell Westbrook is a player coveted by many teams that are drafting below the Nets. That makes him a really good bargaining chip. The Nets both thin on the wing and shopping Mr. Pout Marcus Williams, so a combo guard like Westbrook if not traded can backup both D. Harris and Vince Carter.

Mareese Speights was chosen for the Suns because he is a big skilled live body. He can learn from and eventually replace Shaq in the starting lineup. He and Amare would form a potent duo, with Speights getting it done more with his back to the basket, and gobbling up rebounds. Conditioning is what is holding him back right now, but that is something that can be remedied in the Association.

Jason Thompson was selected by the Nets for two reasons:

1.There was a run on big men.

2. He is the most complete/nba ready big in the draft. The Nets have a lot of one-dimensional bigs on the roster. Jason Thompson's all-around ability will be a welcome addition to a team that features too many specialists, offense-only, and garbage/hustle style players.

Makes sense, but I really think they should rather take Hibbert. I think it's very risky to say Thompson is NBA ready. He has the size and experience but during his entire college career, not even once he played against a NBA caliber big man and actually played against just one decent team in the last two years (N.Dame in 06-07 when they lost by 50 and he scored 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

He played really well against Brandon Costner/JJ Hickson, and Mike Beasley last year. He put up numbers on Penn State and Rutgers as well. His play does not suffer when he goes up against good competition, and the last thing the Nets need is a Roy Hibbert type big. He is a better passing Nenad Krstic who disappears during games and plays down to his competition.

Sorry, my mistake. When I originally checked his stats before starting to put mocks together, I hadd't noticed the NC State and K-State games. I think that actually changes a lot, and my own evaluations have been flawed because of that. By hey, I don't do this for living, so I guess that can be accepted. Sorry for dissing your pick because of my own stupidity.

...but I still like Hibbert. I think he's exactly kind of a big man they need. Hig basketball IQ, good size (not just tall), post moves! He "disappeared" in about one or two games. In other games when he wasn't that good it was because of the fould trouble, but he still played ok. Of course, getting to foul trouble can also be a concern, but I think the situation will be different when he isn't the only big man on the floor. Summers and Ewing basically palyed as pf 95% of the time for Georgetown.

Goran Dragic: Luke Ridnour and Earl Watson have proven in the NBA that they are not franchise PGs. Goran plays high level basketball in Europe, and turned heads in Eurocamp. Sam Presti, a Spurs disciple, gets his Tony Parker.

CDR: The Spurs are getting long in the tooth on the wing. Bringing in a young thundercat like CDR would be smart. He shoots a good percentage, and gets to the hoop at will. His numbers may not suggest it but he is a really good passer, he was a PG in highschool. He needs to get stronger, but most rookies usually do.

If you say so. Most mocks have him going middle 2nd round though. You probably could have waited on him until at least your #32 pick.

nbadraft.net has him going #38 to portland
draftexpress.com #43 pick
mynbadraft.com and espn.com also don't have him in the 1st round

but if you feel he's tony parker then I guess that's different

if michael beasley can slip to 4 in this draft, dragic could have slipped farrr

The Donte Green pick is fairly simple.

He's a lottery talent available in the late first round. He won't contribute too much for a couple of years, but I just couldn't justify passing on him. Especially when my top two were off the board (Hibbert and Rush).

This is a pick for the future. Low risk, high reward type deal like the Sixers pick.
