The maverick defensive rating is better when Doncic is on the bench than in the game. That is true now and had been true every season of his career. His defense sucks. I know, I know, I didn't watch enough Doncic to satisfy your standards (you've been watching him since the 70s) but I saw him play vs the Celtics. One of the main reasons the...

I watched Dallas a lot. You misunderstood Van Gundy. His comments were actually a criticism of Minny's offense for not involving Luka in the defense. Minny allowed Luka to stand in the corner guarding McDaniels, who wasn't moving without the ball.
When teams actually have gone at Luka he has held up pretty well. That might be part of the...

There are whole defensive possessions where you can see and Stream Van Gundy is talking about how Doncic is just standing around the three point line taking a break. The best defense of Doncic's career is still bad. You are not required to reply to, I am just pointing out that the standard you hold the Celtics to while acting like these other...

Sheed averaged 13 ppg in the '04 finals shooting 45%. I wouldn't be concerned about Sheed in the post.

You don't seem to understand the inherent connection between saying a player has failed and calling him a failure. This is pretty basic stuff. 30 10 and 5 doesn't meet expectorant then what are the expectations? This is Lebron/MJ level stuff that is being expected. Really if James or Jordan averaged 30 10 and 5 in a sweep of the conference finals...

You seem to be getting pretty butthurt over one man's opinion. I didn't even pick the Mavs to win ffs.
I think their man D has been fine but their rotations at times have been lazy, a step slow, however you want to phrase it.
And Doncic/Irving are playing the best defense i've ever seen from them, and this is going back to the...

Sheed didn't like to post up much. But he did when things got serious, and he was elite at it. He spent the whole '04 Finals in the post. He'd be posting up GS for sure.

He's not a failure. No one's saying that. You're strawmanning the **** out of this to play victim. He's slightly failed to meet expectations because he hasn't been the clear-cut best player on his team in these POs on a consistent basis, and it's because he's struggled to shoot 3s in all these series. You sound really mad tho lol I'll let you be.

So the statistically second best defense in the league is at times lazy? The Celtics are able to be the best team in the league, with statistically the best offense and second best defense...while playing lazy.
Question: are Irving and Doncic good, focused defensive players?

ESPN and Amazon are other options. Either way at this point I don't think anything can salvage the all-star game. You can attach gimmicks, weird rules, roster builds etc but none of it will matter if the players aren't interested. And they haven't been for years now.

Brown having a great series doesn't change the fact that Tatum averaged 30 10 and 5. You aren't making a point. If Tatum can average 26 10 and 5 while playing badly he's one of the greatest players of all time. This is holding him to an MJ or Lebron standard. No one has a 30 10 and 5 conference finals setup and gets deemed a failure. You're...

I would say their effort is ok but they have sometimes been lazy on rotations at times, at least from what i have seen in the playoffs. They have only looked locked in late in tight games.
I am more concerned about the other end of the floor. Sometimes it seems like they aren't aware there are 24 seconds on the clock. They tend to settle for...

He put up worse numbers while facing worse defenses this year. He was slightly worse than last year and that's a fact. Jaylen put up 29.8 ppg in 3 less minutes per game while being more efficient on 2s & 3s in that ECF series.
Tatum's been able to struggle on his shots and win despite that because of the level of competition he's faced thus...

Having guys with a long history of playing tough D, like Boston does, makes it a lot easier to have a good defense. White and Holiday had strong reputations as defenders with other teams. Tatum and Brown have shown to be strong defenders over the years. Without talented defenders the defense will be below average regardless of effort/focus.
On...

Who is more likely to get a stop? Doncic/Nowitzki are better offensively but Tatum and Garnett are still great scorers that can pass. On the other end Garnett and Tatum are two of the most versatile defenders the game had ever seen while Nowitzki and Doncic are guys you have to hide.

Nonsense. Talent and health will always be the top 2 factors in a teams record by far. It isn't even debatable.
Playing smart, playing with urgency, focus or however you want to phrase it has a more marginal effect on record. Where that really comes into play is in a tough playoff series. A team who has developed good habits is more likely to...

Of course you don't think Tatum has done anything. You think Brandon Ingram is better than Tatum. Your opinion is actually a bit insane. 30 10 and 5 in EC finals hasn't been done since Lebron James. A guy that came into the NBA as a shooting guard is defending centers when called upon to do so. Tatum has undoubtedly stepped up. Your refusal to...

The win total is proof of focus. Should be something you can understand. If they weren't focused they wouldn't be winning so much more consistently than the rest of the NBA. You don't comprehend because you are not reasonable. I disagreed with it but the fact of the matter is that this team only had 1 AllNBA selection. How can they have such an...

Tatum's struggled to make shots for most of these POs and all their opponents had injuries to their best players and Jaylen Brown won ECF MVP, so I don't think Tatum's done anything to meet expectations yet tbh. "Slightly failed" due to his bad shooting is fair enough. 26 ppg in 40.5 mpg w/ 56.5%TS with the row of opponents he's had is pretty...

Lemme post here since my other post is in off court. Arby, you should post what SoBe thinks.
I can't see how Dallas wins this. Boston's best player is a choker and a Dookie, and I dislike him, but it just seems like a nightmare match up. White is a low key stud, doing shit I never thought. Big Al has been winning since college and would bite...

I still can't make a pick. Boston clearly has more talent. They have guys who should be able to slow down Luka and Kyrie somewhat. 5 of the top 7 players in this series are Cs.
But in a close game i trust the Mavs more than the Cs.

I have Boston.
While I like Dallas role players more than most... I do not think the gap between Luka/Kyrie and Tatum/Brown is as large as public opinion. I think some of the Boston doubting is coming from Minny's inability to sustain their high level of play still fresh in everyone's mind.
