Allen Iverson out for rest of season
Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that guard Allen Iverson will miss the remainder of the season. The all-star guard missed 16 games between February 27 and March 28 after exiting a game at New Orleans with a sore back on February 25.

Wow...they do seem to play better without him...but what about using him in the playoffs?
-
Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
Wow..
Wonder where he will be next year..

Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
Safe to say the AI-Detroit experiment didn't work out...I really feel bad for AI.
-
Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
The pistons will win a playoff series now without the distractions. Don't worry Detroit fans, you know he wont be back next season. Let his cancer spread in new york or OKC.

Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
ESPN Breaking News - Allen Iverson will sit out the rest of the season to rest his injured pride.
MIDDAY CORRECTION: Allen Iverson will sit out the rest of the season to rest his injured back.
As long as they get the story right.

Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
Now you have to wonder if the Celts will drop a few games to just to force Orlando into matching up with the Pistons in the first round.
-
Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
Mutual agreement I'm sure.
Pistons don't want the drama, and AI doesn't want to ride the bench.
-
Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
I chalk it up to this:
They dont want him there, and he doesnt want to be there, and he probably does have a bad back, that with the situation, he COULD probably play, but with them not wanting him , and him not liking the situation, both parties decided he can sit his ass out, and rest his back.
Bad situation for both parties, and i agree, he does have an attitude problem.

Now - he'll be sure to be healthy for next year!
Oh, and nobody can blame him if the Pistons proceed to flush themselves down the john.

Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
Absolutely not breaking news.
-
Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
injured back or brused ego?...I hope Iverson is really hurt because if he's not then I'm losing respect for him almost everybody now....I bet he doesn't even show up on the sideline to root for his team either.

Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
Well this gives more of a chance to Will The Thrill Bynum now that he knows he has to play to replace Iverson.
Pistons can still take out the Magic, They can't take out the Celtics or the Cavs.

Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
LOL@ Some of you thinking Detroit is going to make this HISTORIC run now that AI is out. As if hes the ENTIRE reason they are having a poor season.
Detroit is going out the first round folks. You can put money on that one.
That team is going to be in rebuilding mode during the offseason. Yes they play well, but they arent that great of a team.

If they play the Magic, they should advance to the 2nd round. They already took out the Magic without Iverson, and if they get a healthy lineup there is no way the Magic can matchup with the Pistons.
-
Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
Mutual agreement. Iverson doesn't want to play under 20 minutes a game(this is more the reason than starting/coming off the bench) and Pistons don't want to play him more.

It's sad to look at the Pistons of before and compare them to the Pistons of now.

:oldlol: What? I'm pretty sure that the Magic would win in like 4 or 5 games, the Pistons are not getting any younger and it really seems that they miss the floor presence of Billups.

Interesting, because the Pistons have won 3 of 3 against the Magic this season right?
Oh wait 1 out of 4 is more likely than 3 out of 4 right? :hammerhead:

He may not be the ENTIRE reason, but he is the definite BIGGEST reason. Look at this simple fact: They play better and have a better record w/o him than they do with him.
He's a cancer. His style doesnt fit for an actual TEAM. He has to have the ball all the time and shoot 25+ times to get his and he's always been like that...and selfish.

Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
Congratulations Detroit, you just scared off one of the best players ever to play in the NBA.
Wait til playoffs, your loss.

They could be a more effective team if they adjusted their style on offense. Even subtracting Iverson, they don't have Billups anymore, yet they run an offense that is structured for a point guard like him. Stuckey isn't a true PG, but he's capable of handling the duties, but his style is based more around his quickness and ability to penetrate. You have to adjust to what you have.
This season was just a mess for that team. The Iverson situation just worked out terribly, they brought him in for cap space and I think all parties knew that which made the situation difficult. Compound that with taking out the guy that ran the offense and replacing him with a young guard with an entirely different style and they have coach he seems to have no clue what he is doing.

Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
You people who thought he was gonna be resigned....i lol at your general direction. He went there for his expiring contract, THATS IT!

Re: Breaking News: Iverson out for season
Iverson might as well retire now. Even if he's truly injured, people aren't going to believe it. It doesn't help he was *****ing to the media the other day. I wonder how much this will hurt his legacy..?

Some of you guys are hilarious...
He's Allen Iverson, he can sit out if he wants to, he's earned this league so much money over his career. He may be a Primadonna, yeah, but this is professional sports. Who isn't?

What do you mean he can sit out if he wants to. He's being paid a lot of ****ing money and he should play if he's not injured. Talk about horrible timing, even if he is truly injured, no one will believe it.

One of the worst posts ever regarding the NBA. No player is bigger than a team, and especially no player is bigger than the league or basketball. What a joke. AI is a cancer and he is SELFISH. His pride and ego is way too big for anyone, let alone a player who's on his fairwell tour soon.

They are just hoping to make the playoffs at this point, so his whining wasn't helping anything.

Re: Allen Iverson out for rest of season
Probably for the best...his crying every time he plays, is nothing but a distraction to the rest of the team anyway.
I wish him luck somewhere else

Scared off? What are we supposed to do? Let him play the point guard position, a position he has already complained about playing? Curry made a decision that was best for Iverson and the Pistons. Hamilton plays better with the starting lineup and Iverson could be Iverson coming off the bench. I guarentee he would have seen more time coming into the playoffs. You just can't please Allen Iverson, because he is Allen Iverson. He isn't a young star anymore, people are going to quickly forget him.

Re: Allen Iverson out for rest of season
It's too bad... now that I've had time to think about it I think this will really hurt his chances of signing on with a contender this summer. The fact that Dumars said he was done for the year means that part of this has to be Iverson's displeasure over his role with the team. If he was actually injured wouldn't they have said that he'll miss 2-3 weeks and go from there?

I knew it. I need a new favorite player.

Allen Iverson couldn't be Allen Iverson coming off the bench because they wanted Will Bynum to be Will Bynum

Re: Allen Iverson out for rest of season
2 nights ago he was claiming he wanted to play complaing about only playing 17 minutes of the bench and now he's out for the season due to injury... riiiightt.... this whole thing makes me sad though.. AI deserves to be in a better situation and this sucks for detroit fans.
