If you go by the PER stat, Ariza isn't even having his best season currently. He's just simply being more of a focus on offense, getting more ball and taking more shots.
Check this for proof of that.
My frontrunners for MIP would be Joakim Noah, Marc Gasol, Will Bynum, Carl Landry and (kind of left field, but he's clearly taken his game to another level this season) Chris Bosh (although Bosh would probably be most suited to MVP discussions).
