Smart Gilas Serbian Tour
Quote:
Smart Gilas actually absorbed a twin setback late last week after Vrsac Hemofarm, the second-best ballclub in the Serbian League, whipped the Nationals, 98-67.
A pair of 7-footers, including a 7-5 skyscraper, relentlessly pummeled Gilas in the paint and sent the RP dribblers to their third defeat in four games in their Belgrade training stint.
“Just when we thought the competition can’t get tougher, we learned we will be playing Partizan Team A on Monday,” said Tiu.
Partizan, the Serbian League’s No. 1 team, has reached the Final Four of the Euro League.
Gilas lost to Mettalac Vallevo, 76-86, in its Serbian debut, pulled off a 91-84 stunner over Division I-bound SuperFund and lost to OKK Beograd in a 79-80 decision prior to Vrsac.
Gilas badly needs a tall and talented naturalized player to boost its campaign in this year’s Asian Games in Guangzhou and the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship, the qualifier for the 2012 London Oympics.
