Default Wtf!! Alvin Gentry Leaves Suns!!

Quote:
PHOENIX - A surprising run to the Western Conference Finals was rewarded Thursday, as the Suns and head coach Alvin Gentry agreed to a contract extension.

Gentry, who is now signed through the 2012-13 season, has compiled a 72-41 record since taking over for Terry Porter midway through the 2009 season.

"It was important to extend Alvin's contract before this season," said Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby. "He proved his mettle as the perfect coach for the Suns last season. We are excited to have him lead our team going forward."

Along with bringing the Suns back to prominence Gentry is credited with developing the bench as well. Also, the team, in Gentry's first full-season in charge, led the NBA in scoring and was named the Western Conference Coach of the Month for November and December.

"This extension gives me the opportunity to keep improving this team," said Gentry. "It shows I'm working for an owner who wants to win and demonstrates the confidence he has in me. I am really happy to be working with the management team we have in place and am very excited for the start of our new season."

Before joining the Suns as an assistant in 2004 Gentry previously worked for the Miami Heat, Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Clippers, as the head coach for the latter two.
