Default Shawn Marion coming off bench

"Itís an adjustment, itís a learning curve, but at the same time it doesnít matter," Marion said. "As long as Iím on the floor helping to contribute to this team, it doesnít matter. It is what it is. I just want to be out there helping my team." Through four games, the most telling category of Marion's move is his minutes. He's averaging 24.8 a game, down a full seven minutes from last season, his first year in Dallas (although he saw his minutes cut to about this level in the playoff series against San Antonio). Through 2008-09, Marion had never averaged fewer than 36 minutes a game outside his rookie season in 1999-2000 when he averaged 24.7.

It does appear Marion will continue to be a bench player. Including this season, he has three more years left on his contract, so rather than fight it, Marion is going with it. The move makes sense not only to make Butler more comfortable, but to also create more room at shooting guard for when Roddy Beaubois returns and either steps directly into a starting role or comes off the bench behind Jason Terry, as well as perhaps Kidd.
