Default Heat big winning streak in early-mid December 2010

The Miami Herald reports:

Several factors have contributed to the Heat's resurgence, and trends have emerged. But all of them -- the on-court chemistry between Dwyane Wade and LeBron James, the fast-break points, the efficiency of the offense -- can be linked to the team's collective commitment to rebounding.

Spoelstra credits ``mental toughness'' for winning the battle inside.

``That happens naturally with adversity, and now we're starting to build some confidence that we can get stronger as the game goes on, and I like the fact that the last couple games it was done with a lot of defensive stops near the end,'' Spoelstra said.

Although important, mental toughness is an amorphous concept that cannot easily be explained statistically. Concrete evidence for the turnaround on the boards: the rebounding numbers for Wade, the addition of reserve Erick Dampier to the rotation and the Heat's perimeter defense, which held opponents to 25.3 percent shooting from three-point range during the team's seven-game winning streak.
