Default Lisa Leslie Signs New Deal To Stay A Spark

Lisa Leslie, a three-time WNBA most valuable player and three-time Olympic gold medalist, has signed a multiyear contract to continue playing for the Sparks, the club announced Thursday.

Leslie, who will turn 35 in July, announced in December that she was pregnant and would sit out the 2007 season. A seven-time All-WNBA first-team selection and former USC All-American, she had not indicated whether she planned to return.

"I began my WNBA career in Los Angeles 10 years ago and I'm thrilled to continue to play here," Leslie, who is signed through the 2009 season, said in a statement released by the Sparks. "There is nowhere else I'd rather be."

The 6-foot-5 center is the WNBA's all-time scoring leader, helped the Sparks win WNBA titles in 2001 and 2002 and was the league's MVP in 2001, 2004 and 2006. In 10 WNBA seasons, she has averaged 17.6 points and 9.3 rebounds.
