Default How good can the Nets defense be?

This year’s Nets, on the other hand, enter the season with huge questions surrounding their defense, and with the likely expectation that getting into the middle of the pack defensively will be enough to be competitive in the Eastern Conference, thanks to what should be a terrific offense behind the team’s All-Star backcourt of Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, along with Brook Lopez – one of the league’s best post scorers – working underneath the basket.
But Johnson has been outspoken about his defensive expectations for this group, at first saying the goal is to be a top 10 defensive team this year and then following that up Sunday by saying, “We’ve talked about moving our defense up to being one of the top seven or 10 teams defensively, and if we do that, and score the ball, then we’ll have a pretty good team.”
