Default Melo steps up as Knicks beat Heat

Anthony attempted 28 shots in Friday's impressive 104-84 victory over the Miami Heat. He finished with 30 points including 16 in the first quarter which essentially neutralized the Heat for good.

In some ways, it was just Melo being Melo. We've seen those numbers before. But there was another side to him that, for at least one night, suggested that Anthony doesn't just see himself as a hired gun.

Anthony grabbed 10 rebounds in the season opening win against the defending champs and was an active and willing defender against LeBron James, the league's reigning MVP. He looked and acted the part of the leader, starting with his emotional address to the home crowd in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
