You're right on the money. Aesthetics is sometimes underrated when it comes to dunking. Scottie Pippen also dunked from the free throw line and his was just about as ugly as Ibaka's, hence it not being remembered quite as well. That said, Ibaka's leap was impressive enough to compensate for a lot of his lack of style.
