Default Magic try Arron Afflalo at PG, briefly

Observations from Sunday night’s Magic-Grizzlies game, which was decided as soon as Memphis’ bus pulled into Amway Center:

Magic coach Jacque Vaughn stepped outside the coaching box to play shooting guard Arron Afflalo at point guard for a stretch.

“Just an opportunity to try something,” Vaughn said. “We got some good looks out of it.”

Vaughn said he wanted to use Afflalo in post-ups against the smaller point guards Mike Conley or Jerryd Bayless early in the second quarter.

He put in small forward Moe Harkless for point guard Beno Udrih and replaced starting point guard E’Twaun Moore with power forward Andrew Nicholson, leaving Afflalo at the point with Al Harrington and Tobias Harris.
