Ricky Rubio and Joe Ingles continue to struggle. Joe was 3 of 13 from the field and a +/- -20 on the court. Ricky Rubio was 1 of 10 with 3 rebounds, 9 assists, and a +/- -20. There were times when Rubio looked just flat out lost on the court. Dante Exum ended up playing 16 minutes of this game, but most of those in garbage time. Joe Ingles is going to get the benefit of the doubt because he has shot 40% or above three of the last seasons. Ricky Rubio is getting a long leash from the saved up goodwill earned from his second half of the season and postseason. One of those savings accounts is going to clear checks for longer.

Ricky looks the same to me. That's the problem. Even when he's good it's hard to watch.

[QUOTE]Saying that the Utah Jazz can get this fixed and beat some bad teams to improve their record is not necessarily a lie, but it unfairly glosses over the mess that is before us right now. Ricky Rubio is continuing the worst start to a season of his career. Donovan Mitchell has almost hurt himself twice to start the season. Joe Ingles is struggling from the field. Rudy Gobert

The last time the Utah Jazz finished their first 10 games with a 4-6 record, Quin Snyder was in his first year on the bench and the Gordon Hayward-led squad notched just 38 wins on the year.

The Hayward/Favors led team was one of the worst in basketball. Rudy made them one of the best teams in the league. :wtf:

Heading into the 2018-19 NBA season, anticipation and expectations were sky high for the Utah Jazz. In bringing back a team that closed out the season 29-6 and advanced to the second round of the playoffs, it was simply logical that this squad would continue to do great things. With a staunch defense led by Rudy Gobert, a brilliant coach in Quin Snyder, a rising star in Donovan Mitchell and a well-rounded group up and down the roster, this team seemed primed for a stellar year.

Actually it was stupid to think that the same team without shooters wouldn't have problems

I would hope that the fans tonight give Jae Crowder and Donovan Mitchell a standing ovation and don't acknowledge Hayward at all. Hayward is a me first type guy that would not have meshed with the chemistry of the team. He is not the type of player that dives for loose balls and we have an entire team full of guys that do that. As the season progresses Boston is going to find out that they severely overpaid for a guy who is a good ball player but not a great one. I would take Brown or Tatum over Hayward in a heartbeat. It won't be long before his contract becomes an albatross and he becomes difficult to trade because nobody wants to assume the financial drain.

He had reached greatness in his final games with the Jazz. Rather he returns to that after the injury remains to be seen. I'd take him over anyone on the Jazz not named Gobert and Mitchell that's for sure!

You mean has Snyder gotten over himself?

In the pressure cooker of the NBA playoffs, Burks averaged 25.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.2 steals per 75 team possessions, with a .581 True Shooting Percentage. His Win Shares per 48 Minutes for those games was .169. Friday night, Hayward will come back to the court at Vivint Smart Home Arena for the first time since his decision to leave the Utah Jazz as a free agent to join the Celtics in July 2017. He won’t do so, though, as the All-Star he was when he left — at least, not yet. Instead, he returns as a player still in the midst of his recovery phase after suffering the most traumatic event of his basketball life, losing all but the first six minutes of last season after suffering a fractured left tibia and dislocated ankle in a fall during Boston’s season opener in Cleveland. Hayward is still inching his way back to being the impactful piece the Celtics expected to be adding to their roster 18 months ago. – via ESPN

That’s true not only because of the delayed return caused by Hayward’s injury, but because of the successes both teams had last season without him. The blossoming of Donovan Mitchell in Utah and Tatum in Boston meant both franchises, somehow, managed to thrive without the player whose departure from one and arrival with the other was expected to have such a decisive impact. “It’s just circumstances that happened,” Hayward said. “With me dealing with everything I had to deal with, and they’ve had a year to move on … they had a great year last year. “I’ve got nothing but respect for the people who are on the Jazz, and what they did for me. But it’s not something that I’ve been thinking about.” – via ESPN

They wish the wait wouldn’t have been so long, but the fractured lower leg changed everything. Sixteen months passed, and now the Utah Jazz and Gordon Hayward lurch into one of the NBA’s most undesirable encounters: The homecoming of the free-agent star. This instance isn’t rich with acrimony as much as it simply registers as a nuisance. The Jazz aren’t dying to discuss Hayward and his Boston Celtics, nor is Hayward dying to discuss the Jazz. It isn’t personal but practical. Utah has yet to play consistently well this season, nor has Hayward himself. Once they get on the floor, they’ll be fiercely competitive. The timing’s terrible, but no one wants to lose this one. “I wish it was just treated like another game,” Hayward told ESPN. – via ESPN

Mitchell changes everything and nothing. He gives the Jazz the hope of a big, bold future. They give him a stable and sure professional platform. “Frankly, we won’t hide from any culpability,” Lindsey told ESPN. “We dissected it ad nauseam. We did a lot of introspection. And what we are learning is that it’s just best to continue with what the Millers [Jazz ownership] believe in: having our best investments be in ourselves. “They’ve got a legacy trust where every dime goes back into the team. They take no profit. We’ve done an arena renovation. There’s the uniqueness to our new practice facility, where we really let Quin grab a piece of it to fit him and fit us. “So when you’re competing, and something doesn’t go your way, you want to take a look at it. And we did. Could I have done a better job handling the [Hayward] extension? Was there a hangover effect to that? Would he have left anyway? You ask yourself all those questions.” – via ESPN

They sure act like someone is still making a profit. Nothing has changed.

Hayward spent his first seven pro seasons playing for the Jazz, and when he left to sign with the Celtics 16 months ago there was resentment and anger here. And Hayward missed all but five minutes of last season with an ankle injury, so these fans had not yet had a chance to really show him how they feel. So every time Hayward touched the ball Friday, or had his name called by the public address announcer, or even took a layup during pregame warm-ups, they booed. On the flip side, Gordon Hayward struggled in his return to Salt Lake for the most part as he continues to work his way back to his former explosiveness and athleticism. He logged 25 minutes, the fewest of any Celtics starter, and finished with 13 points on inefficient clips of 3-of-9 from the field and 1-of-5 from deep. He did dish out seven assists, though, which were an encouraging sign for him of his playmaking ability with his new teammates.

Not surprised to hear Boston fans say Hayward sucks but for someone that watched him play at his best to think he struggled? His shot was off. He looked mostly the same to me otherwise though.

The addition of Saric and Covington should be positive for the Timberwolves as well. Both are hard-working players that excel in their respective roles and should be nice pieces for Minnesota. Both can space the floor effectively, and Covington should help Minnesota have a solid defensive option on the perimeter. Not only that, but Minnesota has long struggled with depth, and adding both those players could remedy that situation.

Ingles is not the team’s best perimeter defender, nor its best rebounder and not its best passer. He doesn’t use a ton of possessions (his 18.8 percent usage rate this season is a career-high) and he doesn’t even really have the ball in his hands all that often — among the 292 players who have played at least 100 minutes this season, Ingles ranks 105th in time of possession percentage, meaning the ball is in his hands about as often as it’s in those of, say, Andre Iguodala.

But the Wizards have kept Beal off limits amid their 4-9 start. They would naturally prefer to trade the struggling Otto Porter, or perhaps even John Wall, but both possess hard-to-move contracts. My pal Zach Lowe at ESPN recently did a deep dive on just how hard Wall will be to trade once his “supermax” contract extension kicks in next season. – via New York Times

Rubio, Exum, Favors for Porter and Wall somewhere else? 3rd team?

This guy is clearly due some good luck, and the Jazz could definitely use him for point guard depth. He’s a nice player to have when, say, Ricky Rubio goes 3-for-11 and fouls out with just two assists (as he did against the Memphis Grizzlies)…or when Dante Exum gets pulled for the night after an embarrassing 2:37 against the Boston Celtics.

and he still wouldn't have played. Doesn't have enough length :rant

Despite the litany of problems he had last year, he still put up 4.5 points per game in limited action and was a 40-percent 3-point shooter. Moreover, the Jazz rocked the opposition when Neto played; his net rating of 10.2 was the highest on the squad among rotation regulars.

They were certainly a lot better early last year when he was on the floor instead of Rubio

He should replace Allen on the 13 dressed players though. Send Allen to the G-league and get him ready to help later in the year

I remember clearly when I first took note of Jae Crowder. He was playing for the Dallas Mavericks at the time, and I was feeling frustrated but impressed by how this huge guy with long hair was canning threes and hustling hard, making life difficult for my Utah Jazz, even as a role player.

I saw him in college in the tournament against BYU first

Crowder played hard for the Jazz through the remainder of the season, providing a gritty edge and much-appreciated hustle for a team that had lost Thabo Sefolosha, their primary stretch four, to injury. Jae quickly endeared himself to Jazz Nation as a fan favorite.

The gameplan has now become double Mitchell and dare Utah to outshoot you from the 3 line. Outside of Ingles there isn't a consistent shooter on the team, Crowder will occasionally get hot, but if he's taking 9 three's a game you'd be happy with that if you're the opposition.

Rubio, Exum and Favors especially are going to be left open all the time as we saw last year. Get rid of those 3 and the spacing will improve greatly. The D collapses on Gobert and smothers Mitchell. Ingles also having a tough time in the paint.

Exum, 23, is averaging 7.6 points, 2.1 assists and 1.6 rebounds during his fifth season in Utah as a valuable role player, while Simmons has emerged as a potential franchise cornerstone alongside Joel Embiid in Philly. Simmons is putting up 14.5 points, 9.1 rebounds and 7.6 assists for a 9-7 Sixers squad.

That right there tells you the problem with the Jazz. If he's valuable you suck! His value has been that he doesn't suck as bad as Rubio.

In addition to Simmons and Exum, other Aussies around the league on opening night included: Exum’s teammate Joe Ingles (Jazz); Jonah Bolden (Philadelphia); Aron Baynes (Boston); Ryan Broekhoff (Dallas); Matthew Dellavedova (Milwaukee); Kyrie Irving (Celtics) and Patty Mills (San Antonio).

People are getting lost in the noise
Our offense is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do: generating open 3s and looks at the rim. We have been missing open 3s, layups, and free throws at an inordinate rate. That’s exactly
the kind of statistical noise that regresses to the mean. Yeah it’s frustrating to watch, and there’s some psychological snowball effect that plays a role, but you play through the noise. The answer is not to substitute the highest-efficiency plays because of a bad conversion stretch. The answer is not to start chucking 19 footers because "hey let’s try the midrange." The threes the Jazz are getting are not contested. The right answer is you keep shooting and shooting and shooting. Layups will go in. Free throws will go in. Threes will go in. At least at a long-term average rate. To the extent our conversion rates are below average, it’s not systemic.

Defense is a different story, but also subject to some noise. Teams are making the same shots they missed last season. Same distance, same level of pressure. They just happen to be going in. Again – not necessarily systemic or trend worthy. We obviously have rule changes to adjust to, and that’s proving more difficult than expected. But we’re still decidedly average. Not a disaster.

Posted by Korumbian on Nov 16, 2018 | 3:12 PM

The problem is it doesn't matter how many open 3's you generate if you have non shooters firing them. They also have multiple guys that can't finish. Replace the 3 guys that kill them with better shooters and your analysis makes sense. Thabo and Neto were 2 of their best shooters. Niang shot better than Ingles or anyone in the NBA last year with the Stars. Burks has shot well from 3 at times at least in his career.

If your offense generates open looks for a 28% 3pt shooter is that a good offense?
Posted by TheRealDennisLindsey on Nov 16, 2018 | 3:14 PM

Someone gets it. I think it's funny that Bolerjack always says that was a good look and it's Ricky, Exum or Favors bricking it. Is the offense generating those looks or is the defense letting them have those looks? :wtf:

The statistically rational way to look at it
Is to avoid or severely discount the noise of a recent stretch (especially one that’s just a month) and put more stock in the most recent full-season averages and, to a lesser extent, career marks.

Rubio shot 35% last season on all threes. Mitchell 34%. Crowder 32%. Ingles 44%. Burks 33%. Royce 35%. The team as a whole shot 36%. The percentage on wide-open threes was closer to 40%.

Professional basketball players do not inherently regress season-to-season like this, which indicates that the poor shooting is a fluke, not a trend. In that context, the answer is to keep the green light.

Posted by Korumbian on Nov 16, 2018 | 3:27 PM

Those aren't good nymbers outside Ingles though. I think Mitchell will be a great shooter. Burks has been before as has Crowder. I think Royce can be. He seems to lack confidence out there just like the two brickers

I will actually go out on a limb
and say that our record to end the year this season will be close to the same.

The schedule is so ridiculously front-loaded through mid-January that almost every "easy" game on the schedule will happen in the last three months of the year.

Posted by Korumbian on Nov 16, 2018 | 3:15 PM

Not unless they make changes. Crowder was big last year. Getting rid of Johnson and Hood was big. Getting rid of Rubio, Exum(good luck), and Favors and maybe the guys Snyder doesn't like and you may be right. I'm not counting on it. I see them bringing back Rubio and Favors next year as ridicilous as that it.

Is not the record
It’s the bad defense that is worrisome. Part of that is shots not falling, but even the team admits the defense has fallen off. Rule change can’t account for the massive drop off when other top teams from last year are doing fine.

I’m not ready to call for a trade quite yet, but I am getting there. These next three games will be telling. If we bounce back and look good, carry on. If not, I think DL should stay seriously considering trades.

Plus, I doubt we’ve got a shot at Middleton or Harris. A trade may be the only way to get the third star we need to contend

Posted by Bebop on Nov 16, 2018 | 3:23 PM

The defense has looked good at times. They haven't put it all together. Ricky not guarding anyone doesn't help matters and Favors needs to be near the rim not on the perimeter

Miami offered Olynyk as part of trade for Butler.
Olynyk is another player we should look at.

“We played with a lot of passion,” Donovan Mitchell said. “Philly is a great team. We had the game in the bags. If we don't make a few mistakes, the game goes the other way.”

Mistakes like the coty playing Rubio and Exum together? Or not changing the matchups when the Sixers had Embiid spot up from 3 to get Rudy away from the basket?

The big one was the Butler play. Embiid set a back screen and Butler ran around it into the paint and was wide open. It wasn’t anything special; a set that's run dozens of times a game by teams. The Jazz just had poor communication on the play. Ingles thought Gobert would help. Gobert didn’t think Ingles needed it. Ingles tried to intercept the pass and when he didn’t, Butler was left all alone.

Expecting Rudy to do it all? :rant

The Jazz were cold from deep against Philly, shooting 18 percent (4-for-22). The thing is: this isn’t a new problem.

The thing is it's not cold when you have one shooter. :wtf:

Utah is great at creating open shots by using off-ball screens to free players up. But open shots still need to be made, and the Jazz aren’t making very many.

They get open looks because the D is sagging into the paint to stop Rudy, Mitchell and Ingles

Before Friday’s game, Donovan Mitchell was shooting 32 percent from 3-point land when defenders were 4 feet or more away, Ricky Rubio was shooting 29 percent on such shots and Jae Crowder was hitting 33 percent of his open triple looks. Those three all shoot more 3-pointers than anyone on the Jazz not named Joe Ingles.

Crowder and Mitchell can do better. That's what you should expect from Ricky. The fact that he is taking more 3's than anyone not named Gobert or Exum is ridiculous!

Those three Jazzmen are shooting worse than their career averages, but none of them are above average career 3-point shooters in the first place. So more performances like the 4-of-22 could be in Utah’s future.

Who could have expected that going into the season with one shooter? Let's shoot even more 3's than last year!

“I took 35 shots — that can’t happen,” Mitchell said. “Zero assists. That’s not who I am, that’s not who I’ve been. I have to be aggressive, but I have to be smart.”

Mitchell was aggressive early, firing up 19 shots in the first half alone. It’s one thing if he hit most of them, but outside a run in the fourth quarter where he displayed some fabulous shot making — a crossover for a midrange jumper and a 3-pointer that put the Jazz up three with under four minutes remaining — he was mostly off the mark. Mitchell finished 13-of-35 and 1-of-11 from 3-point range.

As for the bad shooting?

“We can only get better,” Mitchell said.

We're seeing Ricky and Exum on the court together more and more so actually it could get worse as hard as that is to imagine. Niang and Allen didn't play either.

Rubio was an elite defender as a 16 year old playing in the Olympics gold medal game. He was an elite defender when he entered the NBA. And he is an elite defender now. People who know basketball, such as Snyder, understand this, which is one reason Rubio keeps on appearing as a Jazz starter.

Posted by yasky2 on Nov 17, 2018 | 2:07 AM

People that watch him see him behind his man or on no man and gambling for steals. Because of Rudy he gets away with a lot of that crap. Elite length doesn't make elite defender though the Jazz seem to think it does. Neto is a much better defender too bad about his length

Start Thebalosha/Niang at power forward.
By BellFrazierRookies on Nov 19, 2018, 7:05pm MST +

With Rubio, Mitchell and Gobert. 2nd team-Favors, Thebalosha/Niang/Ingles, Ingles/O'neill Burks Exum/Neto.

Maybe use ingles as a part time power forward and O'neill as backup small forward.

Exum Ingles are struggling and Favors not doing much at starting power forward.

Trade Favors and Exum to get a real inside/outside power forward.

I'd say Gobert/Mitchell/Crowder/Ingles have to start. After that it would be out of Thabo/Neto or Burks for the other spot

Who's taking Exum's contract? Rubio and Favors certainly need to go even if it's a buyout

So if Utah can at least tread water until then, it should be in a good position to make a run down the stretch. And less-than-inspiring losses to the Mavericks and Pacers notwithstanding, the Jazz have mostly done just that.

The problem with that thinking is that they've been a better road team through most of Quin's tenure

But the tough early schedule could be starting to pay a toll. After Monday’s loss, the Jazz admitted they didn’t have the same type of energy as the Pacers. Could that have been a direct result of being on the road for over a week?

Just the latest excuse. One thing that is constant. Maybe it's just a roster that is asked to shoot 3's and can't hit them

Or a team that passes more than anyone and thus has a ton of turnovers?

That said, the statistic makes plain the fact that the Jazz are sorely lacking shot creators; players that can generate their own offense. Crowder may be the most glaring example, but the Jazz roster is teaming with players whose only offensive recourse is to get to a spot and wait for a pass.

Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder is one of the best coaches in the NBA. He joined the Jazz ahead of the 2014-15 season and has helped to improve the team over the years. Last years performance was his most impressive, as his team finished the season with a 48-34 record and won a first-round playoff series despite losing All-Star Gordon Hayward in the offseason. Utah started off last season terribly and were able to turn it around. So for any Jazz fans upset the Jazz have started off this season 8-9, be grateful for Snyder; he has already turned a season around once.

In many ways, Wayne, with his professionalism, sets up as the perfect specialist for a contender one 3-point shooter away from a higher level of competiveness. That said, there are two factors at play: 1. Wayne cannot be dealt until Dec. 15, after signing this offseason as a free agent. 2. As an impending Bird Rights free agent on a one-year contract, Wayne has the right to veto any trade. That said, I would be believe that playing for a contender, and therefore showcasing himself for a contender in advance of his next entry into free agency, could prove enticing enough to acquiesce. The biggest worry for many has been the seeming lack of effort at times, paired with defensive woes. This past week in particular has not been pretty. Starting with a 50-point loss to Dallas, then a 121-94 loss to an Indiana Pacers team playing without their best player, and most recently, the team was run off the floor at home by the Sacramento Kings.

Biggest worry is a GM and coach that think this mess can work and ownership that will let them keep thinking that

Similar to last season, the NBA schedulers did the Jazz no favors in regards to the first half of the season. Currently tied for the most road games played in the NBA, and having played the fourth hardest schedule in the league per basketball-reference, the rough schedule is only going to continue as we enter into December and head to the New Year.

Top teams win most of their games regardless

Utah also holds the fifth-worst offensive rating (104.7) while sometimes lacking a sense of urgency in certain situations. With nearly a quarter of the 82-game regular season now in the books, the Jazz have dropped from a promising fifth seed playoff contender on the rise last season to 14th place in the highly competitive Western Conference, where 4.5 games separate orders 1-14 in the standings.

4.5 games is a lot already. It's time to do something coach and GM. Time to stop saying it's early and the schedule will get easier. Favors and Rubio need to be benched. They will immediatley get off to better starts. Niang, Neto and Thabo all need to be in the mix. Allen needs to go to the GLeague until he's ready. I'd look to trade Rubio and Favors minimum probably Burks, Thabo and Neto who the coach doesn't appreciate. Why are they back to begin with? Ideally you get some shooters in return. But who they get back isn't as important as just getting rid of guys that don't belong and trying someone else. I wish the owners would get rid of the GM who would get rid of the coach but that won't happen. They have like 3 other GM's in the mix already. You'd think someone would have a clue!

Part of the problem is that guys may be feeling like they can tap back into last year’s success, with much of the same roster in place, but are also dealing with the pressure of no longer catching teams by surprise.

just more excuses. The one thing that never runs out!:lol

The effort on the defensive end has regressed early on, especially in transition situations, while Ricky Rubio’s play has been up-and-down and opponents are regularly attacking reigning Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert at the rim. Also, Donovan Mitchell is averaging 20.6 points per game but is shooting just 41.8 percent and a consistent second option has yet to emerge offensively.

Ricky is mostly down but please get another quote from him about what's wrong. He's the main thing which goes to Snyder and Lindsey

“It’s hard to tell. We had some off nights lately but we just have to stay aggressive and it will come,” Rubio said after going 3-for-12 with seven points and five assists versus Los Angeles. “We have to get more easy shots like we have been doing and make them.”

You and Exum and Favors will have easy shots all night long. You either brick them or don't even look at the rim which hurts just as bad

Some sources have said that, despite the team’s statements, Fultz is no longer in the Sixers’ long-term plans. And they are no longer using his shoulder as an excuse for his performances. – via Philadelphia Inquirer

If the 76ers have tired of this saga and are considering trading Fultz, and multiple sources said they are, his trade value must have declined a great deal since the start of the season. The team might be able to get a late-first-round pick for Fultz from a desperate club willing to take a chance, or the Sixers could try for a player with an expiring contract. That would enable them to avoid paying the $9.7 million that Fultz is guaranteed for next season. Butler is expected to opt out of the final year of his deal, and the money saved by trading Fultz could allow the Sixers to re-sign Butler and another top free agent. – via Philadelphia Inquirer

On Wednesday, The Athletic reported that Fultz is also dealing with a right wrist injury in addition to the shoulder ailment. According to that report, sources also said that Fultz would prefer a fresh start with another team. Later, Brothers denied the report. – via Philadelphia Inquirer

The Jazz once again went through long periods where they struggled to make shots. Ricky Rubio was 2-for-8, Burks was 2-for-7, Crowder was 2-for-9 and Dante Exum was 3-for-10 on the night. The Jazz missed shots from deep (8-for-30 from 3-point range) and pretty much everywhere else.

The Jazz continued to really struggle with their long range shots, with a 3-point percentage of 25.8. In spite of the slump, Utah did not shy away from attempting the shot, taking a total of 31 3-point attempts and making eight.

Can't shoot but shoot as many as you can!

These "takeaway" articles merely restate a few statistics, which anyone can read in the box scores. The articles would be much more interesting with some insights behind the statistics. Tell us what's going on with this team, for example. Why can't anyone score? Why doesn't Gobert get a lot more touches? He should average 20 points a game because no one can stop him.

Because they don't have scorers? Because it's hard to get Gobert the ball without shooters

Another loss at home, this time to the Kings. An 8-10 record which puts them at (as of this writing) 13th in the West and they could end up hopelessly buried by Christmas. They're 2-5 at home. They're going to use the same excuses: the season is early, tough front-loaded schedule, so many games on the road, blah, blah, blah. And the sad part is management continues to do nothing but sit on their hands, not willing to admit their 'continuity' idea is a bust. The West got better. Other teams got new faces and their draft picks are blooming, while the Jazz stood pat just basking in the previous season's success. It's looking like a wasted year when we could have finally got our championship parade down State Street.

The fact that anyone thought bringing everyone back was a good idea is ridiculous. Parade in Utah!

Why should they continue to get our support? This is a team that's not willing to compete for a championship every year. Notice I didn't say not able, just not willing. We have most of the talent, but the pieces aren't fitting together. We need to make some lineup changes and bring in some new talent through trades. Ricky Rubio needs to be cast out of Salt Lake. Guys need to be benched even if it means bruising some egos. The Wizards are willing to part with some of their talent and they can be brought to Salt Lake to give the Jazz a much needed shot in the arm if they'll talk to them and make the needed sacrifices. This is a season that can still be salvaged, and a top seed is still possible, but these moves need to be made now instead of waiting until January. Trouble is it requires Dennis Lindsay and Quin Snyder to make the needed moves and they seem disinterested in doing either.

Never been all in and with the Legacy Trust it looks like never will be

So once again I ask, what is the point of supporting a team that won't even try for the title? Why not just let the world see a lot of empty seats in the Vint? The Jazz are not a farm team. We did our tanking period, we developed enough talent, now it should be title or bust every year no matter what the cost. Why can't management see that?

I wouldn't say title or bust but they should be trying to put the best team out there and they never have. Can't blame Hayward for leaving. Won't blame Rudy for leaving or Mitchell either

[QUOTE]The Jazz's two moves in the off-season were to draft Grayson Allen and to waive Jonas Jerebko and replace him with Georges Niang--basically changing only the Jazz's last two roster spots, which should have little impact on the team.
I think it is okay to have some patience with the Jazz this season. Even though the roster has continuity this season, there has been a major change in NBA defensive rules

However, the Jazz did not go after Bjelica when free agency started. I reasoned that it was because the Jazz already had Jonas Jerebko signed to a one-year, $4 mil. bargain contract, and he seemed to be as good or better as Bjelica, who would probably cost more to sign in free agency. However, the Jazz then unexpectedly waived Jonas Jerebko, and replaced him with D-League-player, (gorgeous) Georges Niang, for a contract in the amount of $1,512,601.00--reportedly, because the Jazz did not expect to be able to play Jerebko enough minutes to keep him happy during the 2018-2019 season.

Jerebko would have been fine but he didn't play so it made sense to let him go. Niang was a good move. Keeping Favors, Exum, Neto, and Thabo made little sense. Not to mention Burks and Rubio

With a larger role and more minutes than he had in Minnesota, Bjelica is currently one of the top 3-point shooters in the league (shooting almost 4 3-point shots per game at a 51.6% efficency). He has good size for his position, and this season has also shown improved rebounding, play making and defensive skills. Although George Niang is also a very good shooter, he is undersized as a stretch-4 PF, and thus, has been best suited for only spot NBA minutes due to his lack of size, length and athleticism, which has resulted in some defensive deficiencies against larger, more athletic players.

Niang should be playing. Certainly should be dressing

The Jazz most likely could have had both players--Bjelica and Niang--on the team, and still stayed under the NBA salary cap. The Jazz most likely could have re-signed Georges Niang to a two-way contract, which would have allowed him to play a similar amount of minutes in a similar amount of games to what he will probably play for the Jazz this season as a regular roster player. Even after the Jazz signed Niang, they could have probably waived him and re-signed him to 2-way contract (if that is allowed under NBA rules--I'm not sure if it is), and signed Bjelica to a contract (for a portion of the mid-level exception) similar to that which he signed with Sacramento--and still been under the luxury tax cap of $123,733,000.00--wherein, even with Niang's contract, the Jazz's total 2018-2019 salary is at $117,052,671.00 (accordingly to ********* NBA salaries website)--which is still $6,680,329.00 under the luxury tax cap. In hindsight, the Jazz had two opportunities to sign Bjelica, but passed on both chances.

Niang was first team all GLeague. He's proven himself there unlike Allen and Exum

Who are some young stretch-4 PFs who may be available in a trade, in free agency, or in the draft, in the near future, who you think the Jazz should attempt to obtain?

Harris. Mirotic. Will they still want to play for a crappy team?

[QUOTE]Labissiere has suddenly fallen out of the regular rotation in Sacramento, playing behind Nemanja Bjelica, Marvin Bagley III and Harry Giles (who are also very talented players). As such, he may be obtainable in a trade. If not, he will become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2020, and may not demand a very high dollar contract, if his playing time continues to be limited by Sacramento for the next two years.

Analysts and pundits are scrounging for answers about the slow start and there are numerous theories, some of which hold water. Sure, the Jazz are losing games because they are playing worse defense, or are poor in getting back in transition, or are sloppy with the ball or lack three point shooting. The Jazz are only middle of the road in overall three point attempts, but are sixth best at getting wide open three point looks. However, they are second to last in three point percentage. The mind boggling part of this is that the Jazz were 12th in the league in three point percentage last season with nearly the exact same team!

But Ingles was the only good shooter playing all the time. More shots by those same guys. Not good
