Trading Ricky Rubio To Portland
Im sure Portland will make an attempt considering his Spanish Armada teammates are probably telling KP that he can't let a talent like Rubio get away.
Im sure the NBA would love for this to happen btw. I'm torn on this issue because although I would love for us to draft Rubio because he is an amazing talent but there are reasons against it, we already have a PG we drafted high who is showing signs of becoming very good in the future, Rubio may not want to come to Memphis and have his agents organize a trade elsewhere or he'll remain in Europe, and because some signs point to us being very interested in Hasheem Thabeet and actually drafting him over Rubio. Quote:
I think thats fair considering Rubio may become the best PG of the generation, and we fill a few needs and stockpile a couple draft picks to help fill our needs. |
Re: Trading Ricky Rubio To Portland
I don't think it's even close to a fair deal. It's a total quality for quantity deal. Memphis is trading the 2nd overall pick and isn't even getting a starter in return.

Re: Trading Ricky Rubio To Portland
How is that trade fair? Memphis takes Jerryd Bayless who I seem to think will develop into a little less offensively gifted Devin Harris but pesky on the defensive end, Travis Outlaw who is one of the best bench players in the NBA, Pettri Kopponen who is a big point guard and pretty good plus four draft picks.
Ricky Rubio isn't a super star. |

Outlaw is a favorite of Chris Wallace, he is a good defender and maybe play a few minutes at the 4 due to his length. #24 Pick is solid, we also have the #27 pick and if someone slips we could always trade up, if its true we plan to emulate how Portland rebuilt we may be purchasing 1st Round Picks. #33,#36,#38 picks allow us to grab some good young prospects who may have slipped out of Round 1. 2011 1st Round Pick is down the road compensation. We come away well in this deal, because we aren't as bad as you think, just very young and need depth more than anything. |
Re: Trading Ricky Rubio To Portland
No way Portland and Memphis will be trading partners any time soon.

But why the Hell would Portland do this deal?! And Travis Outlaw is the furthest thing from a good defender. |

Thats your opinion because Rubio is a superstar already in the Euroleague. Rubio projects to be an elite NBA PG, and I think he will end up reaching his potential in the NBA. |

If he can excel in the role Coach Hollins thought Darius Miles could provide then he fits for us. |

Travis Outlaw a good defender? :lol

True. Not after the Miles signing. Forget the garbage 2nd round picks. This trade is pretty much 2 late 1sts, Bayless, and Outlaw for Rubio. Big gamble on both teams that I'm not sure either team takes. Bayless, Outlaw, and potentially decent rookies won't get the Memphis anywhere. It should improve them, but nothing that they could get them beyond Playoff contenders. Nobody knows how Rubio will turn out, but the Griz need to take some chances at potentially truly talented players if they want to ever be a championship contender. In other words, this trade makes Memphis immediately better, but lowers their ceiling in the future. From the Blazers perspective, we are giving up many pieces for a guy that could really help us in the future, but if he doesn't pan out, we gave up A LOT of potential help. |
Re: Trading Ricky Rubio To Portland
As a Portland fan, I would take Bayless + Outlaw and some picks for Rubio in a heartbeat.
Hell you can have Outlaw for free. His ass needs to get shipped soon. |

Outlaw has to be one of the worst defenders in the NBA. |

I dont see how it lowers our ceiling, we have some good pieces in place and could add a good PF like Big Baby or Milsap in Free Agency. |
