Toronto Raptors 2012 summer league

I was aware that it was going on but I hadn't really been paying any attention to it. However, someome told me that Ross and Ed Davis were doing pretty good so I checked out some highlights and stats.

Game 1 vs. Houston: http://www.nba.com/summer-league/gam.../gameinfo.html
Ross - 8-19, 3-8 3pts, 3 assists, 2 steals, 21 points
Davis - 18 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks

Game 2 vs. Miami: http://www.nba.com/summer-league/gam.../gameinfo.html Chris Bosh sitting in the crowd watching the game in shades.:facepalm

Ross - 4-14, 6 rebounds, 9 FTA, 14 points
Davis - 15 points, 12 rebounds, 10 FTA

Game 3 vs. Mavs http://www.nba.com/summer-league/gam.../gameinfo.html

Ross - 5-12, 11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal
Davis - 23 points, 7 rebounds

Summer league averages:

Davis - 28mpg, 18.7ppg on 60%, 9rpg, 1bpg
Ross - 31mpg (team leader), 15.3ppg on 38%, 4rpg, 1apg, 1spg, 3TO's

Observations: Albeit a very small sample, Davis continues to be Davis. To me he's still a solid big with great hands around the basket and a good defender/rebounder. Exactly the type of guy who won't get the minutes on our roster. 20 minutes a game isn't good enough. Also, he's been to the line 23 times in 3 games which is a good sign.

Ross: after finally seeing a bit of him in some summer league action, I admit he does seem to be a much better ball handler than DD although this is against summer league talent. However, his jumper has been really bad and inconsistent in these games so far. He's taken the most shots on the team and has gone 17-45, 4-16 from 3, and has committed the 2nd highest number of TO's on our team behind Uzoh. He's got a lot to work on. But he does have some potential

my observation of Ross thus far:

- very passive in terms of asking of the ball.. then again I dun recall any plays that were run for him, would like to see some isolation plays for the guy

- very energetic on defense despite team is down by a large margin

- always attempts to get the rebounds (both ends)

- still haven't seen the shooting rhythm that was exhibited in his college days

While Davis has been seemingly been performing well. I remember Demar was Michael Jordan'ing the summer league as well.

Kyle Weems is of no relation to Sonny.

As far as the summer league has been going other than a fairly good Davis and inconsistency from Ross the rest of the team has been absolutely horrible, which albeit isn't really surprising.
I am pulling for Devoe Joseph (Canadian) though, hopefully he has a good outing in the few games left.

Missouri State is led by Sonny Weems’ of the Raptors younger brother, Kyle Weems.

Nobody said summer league stats are a predictor of how the players are gonna do in real NBA action. But for a guy like Ed Davis, it definitely means something that he's participating and still working hard on improving his game. And for Ross or any other rookies, it's good for them to kind of get their feet wet and get acclamated to the game, and to a couple of their new teammates.

Ross's game will excel when he plays with a legit NBA PG (Lowry). All these scrub PG in the summer league are only out to get theirs.

It's depressing that we've been bad to horrid forever, and our summer league team has minimal NBA upside talent.
