Pick to be the star of this team, Jordan VS Russell

Here is your team

C-
PF-Karl Malone
SF-Larry Bird
SG-
PG- John Stockton

If you choose Russell, Clyde Drexler Fills the SG spot - John Havlicek 6th man - Reggie Miller 7th

If you choose Jordan, Dikembe Mutombo Fills C spot- Scottie Pippen 6th man -Ray Allen 7th

Both very competitive, proven winners and come up BIG when need be. But who is the better glue/motivator/best overall combination of the pieces provided

I'll take MJ cause of Ray and Scottie. Good balance of offense and defense on both the perimeter and inside.

Modern day Ben Wallace/Dennis Rodman vs the greatest player of all-time. hmmm, tough decision...

That's odd. I never thought to compare Jordan to Wallace or Rodman.

Man this shows how underrated Drexler is. I would take Russell because I'd rather have him and Clyde than MJ and Dikembe.

With the options give, I have to go with Bill Russell. That's the just fantastic passing on that team with lineup of Bill, K.Malone, Bird, Drexler, and Stockton. My interior defense would be on lock as well. The ball doesn't need multiple players to take the big shots in crunch time, I feel Jordan and Bird may hinder each other... Just imagine the outlet passes igniting the fast break from Russell down the open court to Drexler or Malone ?

It's not bad picking Jordan either, but I feel Scottie would need to start to make a true impact on that team and Jordan would need to be more ball dominant, which I don't see happening with Bird out there too.

LOL you say that combination like its a bad thing mixed with a Tim Duncan like mind and MJ passion to win...Plus Russell would be listed as 6'11 seeing as he's taller than the "6'10" Dwight Howard...Anyways, I think you severely underrate the past and overrate the present. Just my opinion though I could be doing the same thing vice versa

I agree! :applause:

It's somewhat hard for me picking Jordan over Russell seeing as Jordan is my second favorite player...its just all things considered with the pieces given, Russell's team would be slightly Superior IMO

Can you explain why? Obviously from my previous post I disagree but only slightly...if the 2 teams were to face each other I could almost see it going 50/50 in a 20 game series.

1,347 posts and that high of a rep? I deff respect your opinion if your willing to go into some depth as to your reasoning

Not that this makes a case or doesn't make a case for Russell, just interesting to watch. He shot jacks a bit but on this team he'd be taking far less attempts but still be beasting in what he always does IMO

I am just uncertain how much of an impact Russell would have in today's game with more athletic players (I know this is the common knock on Russell but it's hard for me to ignore). I have no doubt he would still be an elite defender and one of the best rebounders in the game but I doubt his impact would be as great, partly because of the amount of perimeter scoring in today's game.

Jordan on the other hand would be dominant in any era IMO. Personally, I'd rather have a scoring machine who can provide elite perimeter defense than a rebounding/defensive presence in the paint.

I can understand someone picking Russell though.
