"Eddie Murphy: One Night Only" special to air in November

New York, NY – October 2012 – Comedy fans will be treated to an evening filled with some of Hollywood’s biggest comedic superstars appearing and performing at Spike TV’s “Eddie Murphy: One Night Only,” the first-ever televised tribute to the comedy legend. Joining the all-star talent roster, which features many of Murphy’s peers and co-stars, includes Jamie Foxx, Adam Sandler, Tyler Perry, Keenen Ivory Wayans and Nick Nolte. In addition, The Roots will perform throughout the evening as the show’s house band. “Eddie Murphy: One Night Only” will tape on Saturday, November 3 at the Saban Theatre in Los Angeles and will air on Wednesday, November 14.

Previously announced talent includes Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Tracy Morgan, Arsenio Hall, Brett Ratner, Charlie Murphy, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Martin Lawrence.

The exclusive Spike TV event, produced in conjunction with Don Mischer Productions, will include short films, musical performances, sketch comedy and culminate in an appearance by Murphy.

“Thirty years ago, Eddie Murphy came on to the comedy scene and changed the game forever,” said Casey Patterson, Executive Vice President, Event Production, Talent Development & Studio Relations – Viacom Entertainment Group. “We’re thrilled to be honoring him for the very first time, ‘One Night Only’.” “Eddie Murphy is the standard for comedic excellence” said Vernon Lynch, Murphy’s brother and Executive Producer.

“Eddie Murphy: One Night Only” will pay homage to Murphy’s journey from a 15-year-old aspiring comedian, to the record-breaking “Raw,” which remains the highest grossing stand-up film of all time, to his indelible characters and impressions from “Saturday Night Live” including Buckwheat, Gumby, Mr. Robinson and James Brown.

The special marks 30 years since the release of the groundbreaking stand-up concert film “Delirious,” and the classic film “48 Hrs.,” which featured the breakout performances that made him one of the biggest superstars in the world.

Spike TV has been an industry leader in original event programming honoring male icons and heroes from the worlds of comedy, sports and entertainment. Recent honorees at various signature events include Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Chris Rock, Will Ferrell, Robert Downey Jr., LeBron James, Adam Sandler, Kobe Bryant and more.

Don Mischer, Casey Patterson, Charlie Haykel, and Vernon Lynch serve as Executive Producers for “Eddie Murphy: One Night Only” with Juliane Hare as Producer.

Nice but reading the thread I thought Eddie was going to perform, that would have been badass. I'd love to hear new material from him since he hasn't done stand up in years, and now that his kids are older he doesn't have to hold back with his material as much.

Thats what i was thinking and hoping for aswell, i dont know why he doesnt do it... some comedians standups get only better & funnier as they get older, see Richard Pryor, Cosby and ofcourse the best example is George Carlin

When you haven't performed in years the overwhelming fear of it just takes over. Stand up comedians are some of the most insecure and unhappy people you will ever encounter. That is what feeds their gift of laughter

Stopped reading at Spike TV. Doubt I missed anything.

Eddie left his talent in 94.

Can I watch a rerun of Delirious instead?

Maybe this is his coming out party back to stand up. And what better way to do it with all your friends around.

Eddie hasn't done stand up since the RAW tour ended in 1987, 25 years ago. He was 26 in 1987.

Robert Townsend hadn't done stand up since 1991 I believe and came back a few years ago.

I'd rather see a roast of him. Now that's worth watching

I agree, Comedy Central always picks stupid people to roast. Roast a comedian, not Pam Anderson or the dude from Baywatch. I'm pretty sure Kim Kardashian and AC Slater will be roasted next, they fit the bill.

TV One had a nice roast a few years back on John Witherspoon.

A roast of Eddie featuring Arsenio Hall, Chris Rock, Keenen and Damon Wayans, Robert Townsend, Paul Mooney, Steve Martin, Martin Lawrence, Dave Chappelle, David Alan Grier, Ben Stiller, John Witherspoon and Jamie Foxx would be epic.

Did anyone watch this? How was it? I might give it a download if it's as good as I'm expecting it to be.
