Right now through the very limited sample size of games we have to judge from, random pretenders like the Grizzlies, Knicks, Clippers have to be among the teams at the top of the list purely because of their records. However, come January/February the true contenders will separate themselves from the rest. They will be:

Tier 1 contenders: Heat, Lakers

Tier 2 contenders: Spurs, Thunder

Then the Knicks, Grizzlies and Clippers will look more like ordinary playoff teams.

Nah Clippers are good to stay, they are certainly contenders this year.

Yeah, not a fan of so far rankings.. what's the point? We can just look at the standings as see who's got the best records.

How about this, if the playoffs started today who would win in a 7 game series.

1. Miami
2. SAS
3. OKC
4. Memphis
5. NYK

Would have to see more of LAC + LAL (with D'Anotni) to place them. Clearly the Lakers belong in their somewhere.

If contenders describes any 50+ win team, then yeah they can be contenders. But they'd get owned in a 7-game series against the Lakers, Spurs or Thunder.

Disagree, Jamal Crawford's shooting makes them a completly different team this year. A legit contender. They have the size, speed, shooting and overall depth to go deep in the playoffs. They had OKC's number last year and they have improved alot since then
