Joe Johnson, a PG or SG

Should Joe Johnson play PG or SG for the Hawks

Naturally it depends on who the other guards are

Shooting guard.

He is an adequate second or third ballhandler, but he can't run the team.

Plus the team needs him to focus on scoring, rather than ball distribution.

He should be a SG without a doubt. He's got some PG skills for sure, but he's better off at the 2. The good thing about having him play the 2 is that you can have him and a lead guard together, so you have a two guys who can set up plays and get the team running. I don't think its a smart choice to have him at the point.

IF you follow BK's logic it doesn't matter.

how bout a guard period...he can dribble, shoot, create, and distribute..why does any talented player need to be boxed in by a positions?

SG. He can pass well, but he does not have the general quickness of a PG.

Because this determines who you play as the other a guard a passer/Ballhandler or a shooter/scorer.

shooting guard. no question about it.

The NBA of the future will not have set positions and the Hawks are the team of the future not the present. They will never be successful in the present, they just are not built for it. They will always look into the future! That said, they will never draft a PG because in the future PG's will be a thing of the past. The Hawks plan on playing 4 SF's and a 12 man at all times, they may never win in the present but they will sure look futuristic while your losing.

A shooting guard indeed.

I don't think he is a PG at all he is a 2 or 3, but Knight wants interchangable guys so he not draft a true PG until the front office changes.

bigboi_baller 06-11-2006 09:27 PM

not really cuz many offensive superstars try not to play a big offensive threat on D

he should be a pure SG that can penetrate and create open shots for open teammates and use his size for double teams. not run the offence
