The Pope of Greenwich Village

Probably not really underrated but it is sooooo dam good. Has Eric Roberts in it so some people might avoid it for that reason alone. But he is perfectly cast in it as is Rorke. Quirky, funny, thrilling, poignant.

I wouldn't consider The Thing underrated at all, nor underexposed. It's in the iMDB top 250 and is probably one of the most recognizable horror movies ever.

And it appears that they're remaking it...

Yeah a few aren't really underrated, just under-appreciated by the masses perhaps.

The Thing is actually the 5th highest rated horror movie on IMDB http://www.imdb.com/chart/horror, so I'd say it's actually a bit overrated based on IMDB.
