Los Angeles Lakers
Round 1: Brian Cook, F, Illinois (No. 24)
Round 2: Luke Walton, F, Arizona
They got two very talented, veteran college players who should step right in and contribute. Cook is a good fit in the Lakers' system. He's got a lottery-pick game and if he can convince Phil Jackson to actually play him, he could replace Robert Horry. Walton is the smartest player in the draft and you know what Jackson thinks of smart players. He could end up playing point forward for the team in year one.

New York Knicks
Round 1: Mike Sweetney, F, Georgetown (No. 9)
Round 2: Maciej Lampe, F, Poland (No. 30)
Round 2: Slavko Vranes, F, Serbia-Montenegro (No. 39)
Drafting Sweetney, another undersized power forward on a team filled with them gets a C, even if we do like the Georgetown product. But landing the other guy you thought about taking at No. 9, Maciej Lampe, was a huge draft steal. I've seen Lampe play enough to know that his slide wasn't warranted. Lots of teams dropped the ball on him. If he can work out his contract issues with Real Madrid, he'll make Knicks fans happy. Slavko Vranes, at 7-foot-6, is the perfect round two gamble.

Re: will new orleans get an automatic A for draft day grades?
I honestly dont see how their draft grade could go down from an A unless they took someone at #10 that was a huge reach. Say Quincy Miller from Baylor. Fab Melo from Syracuse. Taking Anthony Davis gets you an automatic A. The #10 is icing on the cake.

thats my point - why does that get them an automatic A?
because a hornets ping pong ball happened to be randomly selected a month ago?

they earn an A for that??
Yes. Maybe if Anthony Davis wasnt the consensus #1 draft pick. If it was him on a level to himself, then his peers on another? I could understand a team not getting an automatic A for having the top pick. But its Anthony Davis, the prized pick of this draft. After him? Its a pretty even playing field in the talent pool. Not many prospects stand out over the other. So with that having the #10 pick you can get a talent that isnt that far off from the #2 pick. Which is why I dont see how they can draft someone at 10 and it hurt their grade. Meyers Leonard? Austin Rivers? Liliard? Waiters? Drummond? Eh
