Default Barclays Center to open against the New York Knicks

You wanted it. You got it. The Nets' first regular season game at the Barclays Center will be against the Knicks, reports Al Iannazzone. Neither team will play on the NBA's opening night, Tuesday Oct. 30, or the next night. Instead, they'll wait until Thursday, Nov. 1 to make their 2012-13 debut in Brooklyn, and the game will be televised on TNT.

It will be the first of four regular season meetings between the two teams. The rest of the 2012-13 schedule will be released at 7 p.m. on Thursday, with a special on NBA TV.

Meanwhile, Rod Boone of Newsday tweets that the Nets first "home" preseason game will be held not at Barclays but at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, where the team won its two ABA championships in 1974 and 1976 ... and where the Nets would like to draw fans. Boone did not say who the Nets would face.

It doesn't get any more epic then that! This rivalry is gonna be huge!

The Knicks have been a huge let down for the great city of new york.

For the near future, this ain't no rivalry, the Nets are going to own those chump azz Knicks.

New York Post blog reports:

Yormark scoffed at the idea that the Nets need time to build up their fan base after spending the past 35 years being overlooked across the Hudson before taking on the Knicks and their legions of fans in the area.
Instead, he pointed to the roughly 10,000 season tickets the team has already sold as a sign that the Nets are quickly becoming Brooklyn’s team.
“Trust me, those are Brooklyn Nets fans buying those seats,” Yormark said. “What happened in New Jersey, for how long it happened, for however long it happened, it’s in the past. That will not happen in Brooklyn.

too bad green had to be let go- he definitely would have pumped up the whole 'coolness, hipness, newness' factor with his acrobatics.

regardless, the nets have a chance to steal a lot of fans. or simply gain fans willing to support both teams. i wonder what the typical NYC mentality is on that- do most NYC baseball fans support both the yanks and the mets? do most NYC hockey fans support the islanders and the rangers? or do most NYC fans opt for one or the other...?
