Found a free download for ArmA II Combined that seems legit (multiple comments and only positive ratings). Can torrent it as well. Download this.. then zombie patch to make it Day Z is free.
Didn't realize games/movies were so easy to get in the torrent age.
I've heard regardless of where you download a free version, you're more likely to encounter errors whenever there are patch updates, or just errors trying to connect to servers.
ARMA II CO is pretty cheap on Steam, and DayZ is completely free anyway. I'd suggest to everyone to just buy the damn game.

Steam has it back up to 30 bucks for a game a few years old....
Oh I didn't realize Combined Ops was simply base game+Operation Arrowhead. Both are sold as downloads from Gamestop and I have a gift card. I'll look into doing it the two download way.

It's unlikely you're gonna even play the original game. You're buying it purely to play DayZ, which just yesterday hit over 1 million individual players. Such an epic game, more than worth your 30 bucks for the enjoyment you'll get out of it.
If you get the free version working correctly then go for it, but don't be surprised if you have trouble entering servers. 2 of my friends downloaded a free version, but couldn't ever get into a server, no matter what patch they used. As soon as they bought the game off Steam and installed it all correctly, never had a problem again.

Idea of a dog companion makes me so stoked. Makes it all the more realistic. It will be devastating when some random asshole kills my dog though.
