I think it officially died as a music video channel around 2002. They kinda had to play those boy band and pop princess videos during '99-'01 cuz it was big with the kids. TRL was big too.

Once boy bands faded out, and youtube came along it died.

I'm not into reality tv shows so I don't know how relevant they are now since that's all they show.

As a teenager, I'd sometimes watch TRL in the late 90s, but one thing they would do is cut the videos short so that Carson Daly could talk more, and it seemed like the commercial breaks were extremely long..
