Default Raps could go into the Luxury Tax?

Was listening to The Fan in Toronto today, and MLSE chairman Richard Peddie was on in the afternoon. He told the station that MLSE would listen to proposals from Colangelo should he wish to go into the luxury tax this season. He did not confirm whether or not they would approve it, but they would not dismiss the idea outright. This is a change from previous years, where the luxury tax was a no-go.

Interesting.

Highly doubtful, they just gave out a very large amount of money to the new GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs Bryan Burke ......

This was on today's show he said that... and he obviously knows how much $$ he gave Burke.

Now, he didn't say they would, but they said they would take into consideration a proposal to do it, should Colangelo present it.

They don't like paying extra money than they have to because the principle shareholders of the team is the Ontario Teacher's Pension Fund. And while that might sound crappy, they have a TON of money, but are in the business of making money, not winning championships. They're not against spending up to the cap, but usually not above it. Saying they'd take it into consideration is a step in the right direction.

And you've obviously seen what they have the money to pay for... they're putting this up in the ACC parking lot:

If you want to give MLSE more money to support the Raps, just buy more goods from Shoppers Drug Mart, it'll trickle through eventually.
